Cestler 9 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 SPOILER:( I can't find the button, can you tell me where it is? After watching the video, I saw the slavery, and thought about it. Will MLP be rated TVY 7? The only little kids I ever saw knowing about slavery are Christians. And the Sombra thing looks scary. So will it be rated K+? I think so. Hello. I am this random 12 year old Pegasister Trekkie Whovian Potterhead. Yeah, I'm sorta a nerd. And I am also trying to find a decent signature. Oh, yeah, I'm a Christian. And I'm proud of it. Akemi Homura 7,681 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Here's the thing that make FIM's situation unique: Studio B no longer has to follow orders from Hasbro - at least, not half as much as they used to. In fact, the reason why season two was more individual-based, with more jokes and pop culture references was all due to Studio B using their own methods in producing the show rather than being asked by Hasbro to do so and so. The stuff with Ditzy Doo given the name Derpy (officially)? Also the result of straying away from the Educational/Informational tag that Hasbro implemented in season one. Since then, it's been more enjoyable (at least personally) as now they have a lot more options to go to and more ideas to better utilize when producing episodes. That said, now that they've allowed Studio B to run their own course, we can expect a bit more content (even more so from season two) geared towards the older parts of the fanbase - they did something similar with the PPG when Faust was still working on that, but the main message of this show is to make friends and try to get along with everyone. For it to constitute a Y7 rating would require every episode to have some sort of content that was demonstrated in the season premiere or finales, like the battle with Chrysalis or even Discord. Remember this isn't the Powerpuff Girls despite the couple of similarities between the two here and there - the ponies try to learn things about themselves, their friends, and the world around them by problem solving and trying to understand each other, not beating up baddies and sending them to jail. Even though that's occasional, but again, not enough to give it a Y7 rating.
Twilight Circuits 603 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 I don't believe so. Although Hasbro is highly aware of the fandom, they are good sticking to their guns and making the show stick to it's age group. Hence the toys are still... toys... Ratings also aren't the resposibility of the creators of the show. It's up to the networks to decide what something should be rated. Which is why we sometimes wonder what on earth they were thinking.... Zygen 6,066 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Eh, I don't know I mean honestly with people these days ratings don't really matter to alot of people, and obviously won't matter to most bronys of course. However it does make me wonder, I don't really know if they can change the rating like that though o-o? I thought it would have to be a totally new show for that to happen. Still it has been times where I wonder how it can still not be Y7. I don't really care if I had children I'd proably let them watch it after 3-4 I guess depending. And Alot of parents just decide themselfs if they're going to let a child watch play or have something. Some are strict some aren't. Heck I have a cousin whos only like 7 and plays COD (And hes actually better then me since I never play it except there ironic.. I know I suck deal with it Xd). I just put maybe, but that might be because I'm such an indecisive person lol. Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Radiance64 7,053 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Unlikely, the rating will probably stay the same. There's should still be plenty they can do with the Y rating anyway, it's not like the show will lose its charm or anything.
Marshmallow 1,137 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 No, that would be a very dumb move by Hasbro. Keep in mind that the show is before all a way for the company to promote its toys. And the main demographic of these toys is young children. Not to mention that they probably receive hundreds of letters from angry moms if the rating was raised and they probably want to avoid that too. AegisReflector 886 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 I really hope they don't do the whole "Adventure Time/Regular Show" direction and start going for more risque jokes. That completely will lose all the charm the shows have. I highly doubt that will happen though, since the fandom strongly supports the show's kiddy nature and the positive messages that each episode receives. However, I wish they would add more action and more flashy animation. The final episodes of Season 2 clearly contrast to those of Season 1 because of these kinds of elements added to it, not to mention there are a lot more musical numbers being produced, which again, strengthens the show's charisma. Overall, the show's rating won't be affected, so much as the writers just keep doing their thing for Season 3.

Well those two particular shows have always been rated PG to my knowledge, so those kind of jokes should be expected.MLP FiM will certainly not ever go as far as a PG rating though, mark my words. Cestler 9 October 30, 2012 Author Share October 30, 2012 All of your opinions are true, but keep in mind of Sombra's appearance, which would look a bit scary to a kid. Maybe it still would be TVY, but earlier? Hello. I am this random 12 year old Pegasister Trekkie Whovian Potterhead. Yeah, I'm sorta a nerd. And I am also trying to find a decent signature. karizake 6 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 I heard the writers are going to continue to keep it toward the original target audience rating... but they still remember to do a brony check ! /]^3^[\
FoxyCryptid 4,330 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 (edited) Eenope, plenty of sci-fi and fantasy cartoons in the 80s/90s had the Heroes rescuing slaves from the bad guys. Bucky O'Hare, G.I Joe, The Highlander Cartoon, Bravestar, and probably others. My guess is it will just go to a normal TV-G instead of the special "Youth" rating. I kinda like the direction it's going, it's getting very Disney-movie-like. Kelvocity 211 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Wait, it's rated TV-Y? I thought it was TV-Y7 or something... ah, whatever... Cestler 9 October 30, 2012 Author Share October 30, 2012 Hmmm. I looked at all of your posts and decided that it may be TVY, but the episodes are gonna loose the education sign in the first season( Some of the episodes in Season 2 did not have theese). Hello. ponyvangelist 732 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 One For The Ages Considering that the majority of MLP merchandise is made for children in the age range of 3-8 or so, depending on the specific products, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to create or rate the content of the show in such a way as to shut out the majority of its target demographic. Lauren Faust had alternate designs from some of the monsters in the first season of the show, in case her original designs were rejected as "too scary". A "dopier" and less-threatening manticore, for example. She was pleasantly surprised that her original designs were accepted without a peep. Yes, King Sombra looks pretty scary, and the subject of slavery might seem too "mature" for young children, but evil villains and involuntary servitude have been the stuff of fairy tales and bedtime stories for centuries, so I really don't think they're going out on a limb here. We can rest assured that Hasbro, who pays the bills for these shows, is going to make sure their flagship promotional vehicle for My Little Pony is going to remain age-appropriate for their young customers, and continue to help them sell more toys. Lost Profile 644 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Maybe... Seeing how "awesome" looking, the new king look... It just might me 7+ But the rest of the show is suitable for little kids... So I'm kind of stuck on this one...
Winona the Dog 1,984 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Maybe im not garunteeing that fact as its too early to call shots but the premiere does show enough promise it will meet up at least to where it was during season 2 if not higher. GuillermoGage 246 November 19, 2012 Share November 19, 2012 (edited) I forgot about this, so, I am necroposting it! Well, yeah, the premiere was still TV-Y, so it didn't get all that scary. Yep, that gives me memories of Yu-Gi-Oh, and Garfield and Friends and Jackie Chan adventures. But SpongeBob SquarePants started being raunchy and gross and mean-spirited when it went Y7, and though the cuter, older episodes in syndication have been retroactively rated Y7 out of consistency. brian577 120 November 19, 2012 Share November 19, 2012 The rating below this video says TV-Y7 (FV) http://www.hubworld.com/watch/1959564144001/my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-a-new-season-of-surprises-promo It's possible that at least one episode this season will have a higher rating, perhaps One Bad Apple, Magic Duel or maybe even Sleepless in Ponyville. Genepool 224 November 19, 2012 Share November 19, 2012 Have to concur with my fellow bronies that the show rating change despite the show's content. For it to be rated TVY7, we would have to see some serious fighting imho. Example would be Rainbow Dash going head to head with another Pegaus, bucking them, punching them, slamming them into the ground, and the like. There would be no blood of course and super violent shots would have the stereotypical "white out" sequence when the blows landed. While there is cartoon violence, it is so totally mild that it really can't be considered violence. Think the most I've seen was in Season 2 Episode 2 where Rarity *Discorded* was kicking at Apple Jack, and even that was mild.
Betez 1,734 November 19, 2012 Share November 19, 2012 I'm fine with some episodes being tv-y7. There are some episodes or parts of episodes that are pretty deep. I voted the 2-parters because they do seem to be the most serious. The rest of the series I think could pass as just tv-y. But like Canterlot Wedding, return of discord, and crystal empire, just to name a few, are probably best tv-y7. Jokuc 8,174 November 19, 2012 Share November 19, 2012 (edited) Seriously? Have you seen what's on TV these days? Haha. Anyways, no. Dusty Soul 2,612 November 20, 2012 Share November 20, 2012 I highly doubt it, but if they could get away with the season 3 opener, and the season 2 finale, then they can get away with a lot of things.
