Dr Stable: The Dark Descent

(Note: Happy Halloween everybody. I know this was a little late but the idea just dawned on me to make this, this is an Amnesia the Dark Descent inspired fan fiction; it is not entirely based on the game but very much inspired by it. Beware though this fan fiction will have a bit of gore, not a lot but mostly references to gore and may contain some language. Happy Halloween and please…Enjoy P.S most of my fan fictions will be about my favourite pony, Dr Stable though none of them, unless stated otherwise will be connected in any way.)

He kept chanting the words…he knew he had to keep chanting the words, he couldn’t remember even why now he just knew he had to keep saying them, his life depended on it. All he could see in front of him was hazy, he couldn’t keep his head up properly anymore and he walked like a drunk, he looked down at the dusty, dirty stone floor still chanting as he felt the burning liquid still run down his throat.
“My name is….Doctor Stable…I live at Tranquillity road…near pony Ville. I must stop him….I must stop him!”
He kept repeating these words over and over again till his limbs turned to jelly, no longer able to prop himself up he fell to the stone floor with a thump and before he could register the pain he closed his eyes and fell into a haunted sleep.
Slowly the unicorn looked up, his vision still hazy and painfully picked himself up, his head stung badly and managed to walk slowly, he looked around shocked. All he could remember was his name and where he lived. As he looked around he saw the gloomy interior of a…..stone hall, the floor was very dusty and soon his hooves where covered with the filth, he saw that the around the long thin hall was a few well-furnished chairs, but many where damaged with legs missing.
“How the hell did I get here…….” The doctor said slowly as he walked around, desperate for some evidence of why he was here or where he was. He searched vigorously lifting and throwing chairs around like a madmen hoping to find something, then as he lifted one of the chairs a sheet of paper slowly fell to the ground. Excited Dr Stable threw the chair away and quickly levitated the paper, eager to read its contents. Then he gasped at the title. (Italics mean a note in this fan fic)
Letter to self
Your Name is Dr Jonathan Stable and this I am you…I can’t say much and I don’t know how much I will remember after I have finished this drink, but this is what you need to know, there is something after you, nothing you can fight but you will have to run, and lastly and most importantly, you must kill the pony Heinrich Faust, he is behind it all…he is old and weak and you are young and strong, find him and kill him. I know you might be scared and confused but you must know one thing, some things are best forgotten especially what you have, don’t try and remember just focus on the task. Killing Heinrich, there might be other notes like this around, probably placed by Heinrich to distract, DON’T READ THEM! Curiosity might bite at you heels making you what to read but you must not; it will only slow you down. Good luck.
Signed Dr.J. Stable
Jonathan dropped the note straight after panting hard. He wanted to kill someone, but why, what had they done? However the part that really got into the ponies head was the “some things are best forgotten.” Had he done something…why would he want to forget so badly...did he kill somepony? He shook his head and decided he would think about it later, he just wanted to get out of this place, he turned behind him and saw just a brick wall, now exit just a huge painting of a black aristocratic looking pony, one with chalk white hair and his black eyes were searching, disturbing even, Jonathan turned quickly, his head burned as past memories tried to get back to him, memories he knew he wanted to forget for now. As he trotted in the other direction he could see a big wooden door in front of him, it was barricaded from his side with chairs and tables, was someone in the castle trying to get him?
Jonathan gingerly levitated all the chairs and table barricading the door and put them to the side of the hall, he then slowly opened the doors hoping not to attract attention to him, and in front of him was a dark hallway, lighted only by the occasional candle resting on a table by the side of the hall. Jonathan carefully walked through the corridor, looking to the sides as he walked, he saw more paintings of Heinrich and his searching, disturbing eyes, he looked at the blood red wallpaper smiling lightly at the nice colour. As he reached the end of the long corridor he saw a note nailed to the door with the title at the top.

The Journal of Doctor Stable: 16th May 1892 AC (after Celestia)

Jonathan paused, he knew his previous note had warned him not to read other notes he would find but…..he just couldn’t resist, he saw the tempting title and the writer of it. Well if it was written by him it can’t be that bad……”
I’m sure one of them won’t hurt…..It could tell why the hell I’m here….” Jonathan considered. Finally curiosity eroded his defences and he levitated the letter reading it to himself.
“Dear diary today is the first day of the search for the element. I have been invited as the medic for this expedition. It’s fascinating, the idea that there could be elements of Chaos like there are elements of harmony, we have heard from our sources that there is one of the elements here, deep in the Everfree forest, apparently it is the element retribution, if we find this element we could become the richest most famous ponies in Equestria, everyone would want to know and donate to the ponies who found an element of chaos before a wrong pony did. Tomorrows Journey awaits!”
Dr Stable dropped the note as he winced, soon a painful headache was erupting in his head, the memories where plaguing him badly now. He shook his head, getting rid of the pain and opened the door. As he looked he saw a huge open space, almost like the ball rooms in Canterlot, it was like one too with tables and chairs set out all over the sides of the ball room. He had come through a door to the side of the room, in front of him on the other side of the room was a another door, he turned to his right and in front was a large window, over facing a huge cliff…..he recognized the bay from the view of the window…Canterlot…he was in Canterlot! He turned to his left and saw a staircase where at the top was another door.
“Which door shall I go through?” Pondered the doctor, suddenly a strong gust of wind swept through the building chilling the doctor to the bone, and soon the door in front of him was opened…..He was not sure, but it had seemed fate wanted him to go through that door. He padded across the ball room to the door, making sure that there was nothing watching him, as he passed through the door slammed suddenly making the doctor jumped, he ran to the door and tugged, but it would not open.
“Crap….” Jonathan muttered, slightly frightened.
He unwillingly, seeing as his only other option had been destroyed trotted down the corridor. He was shocked as he saw along the walls pages…pages apon pages glued to the walls. All from his journal. Most of them were unimportant as the doctor skimmed through them but some really stuck out.
19th May 1892 AC
We found it! We found the stone! There it was in the cave we had been directed to by our helpful zebra guide; she refused to go in though saying something about. “That stone herald’s doom, it could make chaos over you loom.” Bah silly superstious natives. I volunteered to collect the stone and there it was...resting on a stone pedestal in a lonely dark cave, I remember picking it up…the sense of victory I felt was amazing! However none of my other colleagues have been as proud as I have…they said something about that native being right….I don’t know what they were talking about….Well I remember getting that cute on my leg but….that’s not bad is it…..I know the wound went black but that’s not that bad…right…..

22nd May 1892 AC
The wound is gone but worse is to come, me and my colleagues may have received high acclaim for our discovery but as soon as they see the rock they gasp in fear, nobody wants it, so now it rests in my home……and a strange darkness…I feel it in the house…as if some devil is in the air weaving fear into my heart…..I have been having horrible nightmares….I will take this rock to an expert…..Trixie maybe..She might know something.
24th May 1892
This is bad this is bad this is bad! Trixie! Doctor Kellerman and Doctor Goldman are dead! Everyone I gave the rock too where found dead the next day! They were found…..with their heads……split open and there flesh…almost burned off……Oh god this is horrible! What if it comes after me….I don’t want to die!
26th May 1892
I finally got a reply to my letter………..Most of the other geologists and magicians I sent the request to gave me a lot of unhelpful rubbish about the nature of magic…How is that supposed to help me! But one…came from a unicorn in Canterlot! It was brief…not like the others…it just said. “I know what’s hunting you and I can help….Come to Liberation street in Canterlot…there is only one house on that road...mine…go there and I can save you.” What is that supposed to mean….it’s comforting I guess that I have the option but….disturbing….how much danger am I in.

28th May 1892
I have been at the house of Mr Faust for a day now…his house is lovely…one of the best in Canterlot to be exact and he has been very kind to me. He gave me a room, some money and a personal servant to take care of me. He told me he would like to speak to me about the Element tomorrow. I’m sure I can wait till then.
29th May 1892
Mr Faust has stated that the guardian of the element is after me……He claims that each element of chaos has a servant that will punish the thief of the element in relation to the element. For example he showed me the case of a pony he stole the element of death and he was cursed with a touch that could kill…..He told me that this spirit was of retribution so was trying to kill me as revenge for stealing the element. He killed the ponies I sent the element to scare me and harvest the energy of my fear. He told me that we will exorcise the demon away tomorrow…..If I last that long….
30th May 1892
Mr Faust is quite the magician…..He gathered in the ball room and dismissed the servants; we carefully placed the element on a table in the centre of the room. Soon Faust’s whole horn was emitting a huge cloud of grey energy, wrapping around the stone and me…..but soon the room was going…..red….blood red…as if dripping with blood and soon I saw no longer Mr Faust…but the mutilated body of….TRIXIE! Her head split open, only attached to the body with tiny shreds of flesh…I almost screamed, she turned to me with what was left of her head…….I closed my eyes tight. When I opened my eyes she was gone….And there was Faust panting as if he had run a marathon…..It didn’t work……Faust says there is another way…but he will tell me tomorrow, he says I have to be prepared though……..prepared for what!
Just as he finished reading the last letter he reached the end of the corridor and there was a strong iron door. He carefully placed his hoof on the door expecting it to be locked but instead the door swung open….It was dark and he couldn’t see a thing as he stepped in the room suddenly the middle of the room was lit up and revealed a horrifying sight.
It was a yellow Pegasus, chained up to the floor with a giant pendulum blade hanging over her head, her face was slightly bloodied but he recognized her…..It was Fluttershy!
“Oh…..hello….Doctor I know you hurt me and I was rude for shouting at you but….please don’t kill me!”
Jonathan almost vomited from the sight…as well as the shock…he replied gingerly
“No I would never hurt you…or kill you……how did this…” Suddenly a loud noise penetrated the room.
“Hello Jonathan…….Can you hear me…..Hello!?” Jonathan recognised the voice….the voice of Mr Faust
Jonathan gasped holding his head….it was really stinging now…burning almost from the memories that were rushing in….
“I know your there Jonathan….Look I knew you were becoming a bit of a softy after a while….so I devised this little game……..you can leave her to die……and keep going through the room behind her to try and get me…..you can go to the door right of you and go home free and we never meet again……and I will consider not killing her but……I can’t really be bothered to get her out of the kit….or you can save her and learn more about your past…….but beware..the past can sting….can’t it…..oh and by the way her friends when they found out about her kidnapping came after her so I have them too….So you should try and save them to but….that could drive you insane right? Far easier to just leave.”
Jonathan looked at Fluttershy and sighed.
“Don’t worry…..I’ll get you out...I promise!” He trotted up to her carefully looking at the now lit up ground for any tripwire that could possible set of the pendulum. She saw that there was note…strapped to a piece of string, the doctor studied it as the Pegasus whimpered sadly, it read
Tug to free and to see what you did.
Jonathan paused, what happened if it was a trick and killed Fluttershy……his head was already burning from the last notes…what could this one do….He sighed knowing his duty and pulled hard, suddenly Fluttershy bounds were released and the pendulum blade dropped, Fluttershy quickly jumped backwards out of the way…avoiding decapitation, she nearly whispered thanks to the doctor…had he not be fitting on the floor.
All Jonathan could see was a third person view of him…..in the room he was in now with a scalpel in his mouth…cutting up…….animals….poor squirrels and birds…he was slicing them up like bread and then letting them bleed to death…collecting all the blood in jars….He watched as he added more of the dead animals to an already huge pile of dead creatures…..Why had he done this!
“Are you okay…..doctor…?”
Jonathan managed to get up, his magic induced vision over…he shook his head shocked from what he saw.
“Yeah…..I’m….I’m okay……what happned….to you….”
The Pegasus paused then she lowered her head so he could see the small wound at the back of her head.
“You….you hit me……..you knocked me out when I came to save the critters…….You looked awful…..as if something was really plaguing you…….”
“Fluttershy... I am so sorry I don’t remember anything….please just get out of here and get help! The door to the right is a way out…I will save your friends I promise!”
Fluttershy opened her mouth to say more but nodded agreeing, she quickly left the room…Leaving Stable to his haunted thoughts….
Jonathan rested for about a minute…getting his thoughts in place and then he stood up padding over to the door in front of him….He had to save the others…he had to! Then he gasped loudly…the cut on his knee….it was back! But it wasn’t oozing blood…it was oozing black steam……Jonathan wanted to vomit…he suddenly felt weak and horrible…he didn’t want to continue…He then looked up again at the door in front of him. No…He couldn’t let the sick freak win…He stood up again and opened the door slowly. The middle of the room illuminated just like with the Fluttershy room to show a horrible sight. It was Applejack; the strong orange earth pony on what appeared to be a rack….Suddenly Faust’s voice was heard over the intercom again.
“This is Applejack the pony with probably the strongest legs in Equestria…let’s hope they’re still attached to her body by the time you save her….Just as before you have the same choices….Leave her and this place….Save her and risk insanity or Come after me and let her die but choose quickly…that rack is not going to wait forever.
“Please….Doctor…I don’t know what in tarnation was up with you before but don’t let me die okay! You can have free apples for a year I promise!”
As the doctor stepped forward he heard a loud click and soon Applejack was screaming.
“HURRY UP ITS STARTIN!”
“Don’t worry! I’ll help!”
Jonathan rushed forward to the turning rack, it was going extremely slowly but it was still quite painful for applejack, as well a terrifying. Jonathan looked around the rack and saw another note….as well a bloody knife, on the note it said. “Remember?” Jonathan gulped hard and pulled the note and Applejack was no longer being tortured, but she was still tied up, she let off a sigh of relief but before she could thank her rescuer she could hear him screaming loudly.
Jonathan was seeing something else now…..He was seeing him next to Faust with a tied up gagged animal…with horror he realised it was…..the griffon Gilda, the griffon fought hard against her bounds, desperate to be free. Faust looked at Jonathan grinning almost.
“She needs to die Jonathan…not only is she an evil creature but you need the blood….Her blood could save your life, someone was going to kill her anyway…….Your just taking advantage of her already sealed fate.
Jonathan hesitated levitating the knife in the air, his conscious screamed in his head all the reasons why it was wrong but…..Desperation got the better of him, he dropped the knife into the griffon’s throat, and began slitting all the way down the middle, cutting her open, it took her about a minute after the incisions to die. Jonathan almost vomited but Faust patted him.
“Good…you did the right thing.” He cooed like a caring father as he stared at the mutilated griffon’s body.
Jonathan was screaming now…the headache was burning him, it felt like a red hot poker was jabbing his brain and sizzling the brain fluid.
“HOW COULD I OF DONE THAT!!!!!!!! I’M A MONSTER!”
Jonathan quickly cut Applejack loose and collapsed sobbing, almost a broken pony. Applejack looked at him, seeing that clearly something was wrong and nuzzled him slowly.
“Now now sugar cube…….you can feel sorry later…..you’ve got friends to save……..if you want…I could help you.”
Jonathan looked up at the earth pony slowly, his face covered with tears and nodded slowly.
“Yes……we have to get Faust…..nothing else matters……”
Applejack helped the doctor to his feet.
“Now….Let’s get our friends the hay out of here!”
Jonathan smiled, his head ache subsided slightly and he felt he could help at least one more pony.
He had delayed his dark descent.
