movies/tv 007 : Skyfall

So I just watched the new James Bond installment, Skyfall. I found it to be very well done and it kept me on the edge of my seat at all times. At moment I even expected the movie to end, but then something even more awesome happens and got to experience that much more of extraordinary Bond.

I really liked the theme song as well. Adele has such a beautiful voice. :)

I just watched this yesterday as well! I really, really liked it.

It was much better than quite a few other James Bond movies, because they made it more about the characters than the action, even though there was still quite a bit of good action.

The villain was good as well. He had really good motivations, and the way he controlled MI6 with his computer 'web' was really cool.

Also, they really did work to make this a classic in the way they brought in a new M, Q, and Moneypenny--and I think they succeeded.

Also, dat opening credits sequence.

EDIT: well that was the biggest derp I've made in a long time...I didn't even notice that you posted the opening credits music! xD

'twas totally awesome. I haven't seen much Bond, though, so I'm not the best judge of these things.

Not only was the intro music good, the whole damn scene was very well put together.

The pacing was great. The action and stunts were believable ('cept maybe a few parts of the rooftop motorcycle chase, but that scene was awesome enough to still work). I liked all the characters, especially the villain, thought I wish they had done a bit more with the cyanide thing :/

I liked Q. The lack of a prominent Bond girl was a bit disappointing, but so much other cool stuff was going on I didn't notice until after it was over and my friend pointed it out.

My biggest complaint was, as usual, a very poor representation of computers and hacking. I realize real computer stuff and real hacking isn't as exciting, especially for the silver screen, but this movie went a bit overboard on the Hollywood hacking. Of course, I'm a huge nerd, so I that kind of thing bugs me :P

evilshy > Bond films have been notorious for wildly misrepresenting how technology works. Throughout the history of the series. Often comically ridiculous, through to downright absurd. It's charming somtimes, othertimes it's groan inducing.

I haven't seen Skyfall yet, though I'm sure I will soon. Huge bond fan here. I watch the whole series of films once every year.

Alright, let me start off by saying that I have been watching bond movies since I was but a wee foal. I think the first 007 movie I saw GoldenEye (back when Pierce Brosnan still played the role of bond) and I loved the 007 series ever since then. Along with that, I also played most of the 007 video games (because I'm just that much of a 007 fan boy).

Now the movie was pretty good, it was fairly different, compared to the other movies, in the opening scene. Usually the opening would be bond coming in on his new mission, or killing some bad dudes, or really just anything that could be considered bad-ass. I didn't really like the opening to this one mainly because it was different to me, rather than shooting baddies or something crazy like that. I'm not going to try to spoil it much but ... he got shot (Blake does not like this), which is highly contradictory to the other openings in bond movies.

Secondly, I thought the acting was a bit silly at some points, like at the end when the villain dies. The bad guy give off some retarded laugh just before he dies and the way he acted it out just seemed silly to me.

Along with that, I had a problem with the girl that he got at the end of the movie (because he always get the girl he SAVES at the end of the movie). Somewhere in the middle of the movie, bond is trying to help this one girl. She unfortunately gets shot and killed (this makes Blake a very very sad man) and bond doesn't get the chance to save her. By the end of the movie, rather than getting the girl that I hoped he would get, he get's this chick that accidentally shot him in the beginning of the movie (this make Blake a very very mad man), which initially put me in a bad mood.

Lastly, there was one thing that really made me want to scream at the screen at the end of the movie. *SPOILER ALERT* At the end of the movie, the leader of MI6 (who has always been female throughout every bond movie I've seen) gets shot, killed, and is initially replaced by a male. THIS IS A CONTRADICTION TO EVERY BOND MOVIE OUT THERE!!! YOU CAN'T JUST CHANGE THE LEADER IF THE LEADER HAS BEEN FEMALE IN EVERY BOND MOVIE!!! Some people might say "oh this probably took place after all of the other bond movies". Actually that would be false because in the beginning of the movie you are introduced to the "young" Q, who has been an old man in all of the other movies. This shows that, unless the new leader got his sex changed or something like that, they just took the the characters from the older bond movie, and threw them out the BUCKING theoretical window.

But I can't just hate on the movie (I love and tolerate too much to do that), the movie overall was fantastic (despite the little things that drive my OCD crazy). The movie was very modern and fairly innovative compared to the other movies. I really enjoyed the movie, and to be honest, I'm just glad they're still making bond movies. :D

I liked that movie. It was a fun, humorous, and exciting film with many surprises and tons of action.

The opening was iffy, with James Bond getting shot and all. It seemed like it wasn't that big of a deal throughout the movie, but at first it looked like that was going to be the main conflict of the film. After that, I loved the opening credits, it was so creative. And Adele's new song was just brilliant. I'm thinking that will be in the top charts soon.

I did like the villain, how he was pretty smart and all. He seemed very calm and anger-free, which I like instead of the cliche antagonists. But he did do some pretty stupid things in the movie. He talked a bit too much, sometimes instead of just killing James himself. But doesn't that happen in every James Bond movie?

I did love when James and M were using the original car to go to James' old home.

It did stink when *SPOILER ALERT* the leader of MI6 got shot and died. Not only did she get shot, but she suffered from the bleeding and eventually lost most of her blood and passed away. Then she gets replaced by a male. Really, a male?

But overall, it was good with some parts that stuck out in a good and bad way.

I thought 007 Skyfall was very good; I enjoyed the action, comedy, and plot. I have never seen any of the other Bond movies, but I have to say, I'm pretty much hooked. Plus, there were lots of guns for me to identify (something I do in almost every movie I see that involves firearms.)

I also have to say that I really want a Walther PPK now. :P

And I'm going to start dressing like Q now... ;)

Chill dude :)

Bond is like shakespeare (I don't mean to compare quality of writing here). The actors can be shifted around from film to film, like any theatre production, it's the overall archtypes that the actors are playing that matter.

On the topic of M, I still see this guy when I picture M

I've watched every bond movie ever made (and I was old enough to not get stuck with baby bias nostalgia) and this was easily the best. It was less 'micheal bay' and actually characters and story telling. I would've liked the OP, but I have issues with Adele....

The villain was excellent, did anyone else get a batman (the most recent trilogy) feel from this movie?

My husband loves bond, and I always stick through them for his sake.

This is the first Bond movie I enjoyed watching.

The lack of skanky girl was my favourite part,

screen time spent elsewhere.

and Q was........ sexy. I find intelligent, tech-savvy guys (preferably without a facial deformity) very appealing ;p ~

Wat. Craig can't beat Sean Connery and Roger Moore..

Anyways, of course I have seen all Bond movies. Since the latest Bond movies has been kinda meh, Die Another Day being bad, Casino Royale being meh and Quantum of Solace also being bad, I expected Skyfall to be bad too. But I liked it! Finally they made a good Bond movie again! One thing I thought was quite sad was that they had the classic Bond intro

...at the end..

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY PUT IT AT THE END ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS?

Haha (ye that's important to me)

Anyways, looking forward for the next one.

I honestly think Daniel Craig is the best Bond actor next to Sean Connery. Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace are some of the best action movies produced in my opinion.

I haven't seen Skyfall yet but I really want to.

I'm not saying he's the best Bond by a long shot :P

also he's ugly :x

but just the development of the story, villain and other characters is what sold is too me.

^ this. Just doesn't do it for me anymore ;p

I've never been much of a fan of craigs' bond, too much soldier, not enough spy.

He was absolutely awesome in Layer Cake though.

I've seen the Craig ones, Tomorrow Never Dies, Goldeneye, The World Is Not Enough, License to Kill, the one with the Japanese ninjas, and the one with the ski lodge inhabited by brainwashed women.

Out of those my favourites are Tomorrow Never Dies, (Pierce Brosnan), License to Kill (Timothy Dalton), then On Her Majesties' Secret Service (George Lazenby),

I really should see this, but first I have to catch up on Casino Royale to see what kind of impression Craig's Bond leaves on me. ^^

Lastly, there was one thing that really made me want to scream at the screen at the end of the movie. *SPOILER ALERT* At the end of the movie, the leader of MI6 (who has always been female throughout every bond movie I've seen) gets shot, killed, and is initially replaced by a male. Um. Except M hasn't been female in every Bond movie.

Not even close, in fact. Five of the six actors who played the leader of MI6 have been men.

Bernard Lee (1962-79)

John Huston (1967)

Edward Fox (1983)

Robert Brown (1983-89)

Judi Dench (1995-2012)

Ralph Fiennes (2012-)

And there's no use complaining about the minor characters changing so much when that's been a staple of the entire series. Q has also been portrayed by six actors. (Most notably Desmond Llewelyn, or the "old man," from 1963-99.) Felix Leiter, Bond's CIA sidekick, was played by nine different guys and didn't even appear in all of the films. You get the idea.
