Is King Sombra a carnivore (meat eater)/ or an omnivore? He has canine teeth.

 

No cannon: This leads to many questions; is King Sombra from a race of an omnivore Ponies (unicorns) or was he once a normal unicorn fallen to darkness?

 

If King Sombra omnivore (carnivore) it could be good for grimdark/gore fan fictions of him being a cannibal eating his enslaved Ponies, children being the tastiest.

I might not read them myself, I don't support or really like cannibalism or murder and I'd hate to read a fan fiction about King Sombra killing children and eating them.

 

At the same time it would make him truly evil in fanon fan fiction.

interesting idea but tis a kid show and the only reason he has fangs is because he is evil, so i'm guessing he is not a carnivore and if he was to feed off ponies i guess it would be unicorn magic the he'd om nom nom on.

 

honestly i think it was a bad idea to make him being unicorn after we had Alicorn, god of chaos, and Changeling queen when i first saw his design i though he was a cross of Scar from the lion king and Jafar from Aladdin and i wish they followed that.

anyway i'm working on a way to make him more menacing by creating minions and giving him the power to possess ponies, may had feeds of crystal ponies to that list too

Very interesting idea... After all, I can recall Sombra roaring like a lion a few times in the episode. I was guessing that he was some sort of lion/pony hybrid, because he does look like a monster of some sort. And on top of that, he could be somewhat possessed by that black creepy magic, which made him go nuts and start eating ponies.

I could very easily see him having been corrupted by something to become evil and gain his dark magic. I doubt he started out evil, something did something to him, and I think it's entirely possible that his carnivorous teeth are a side-effect. I think being carnivorous could be another side effect. I doubt we'd see anything in the actual show, but it'll be great for fanfics.

 

Maybe he has to eat unicorns in order to keep his dark magic? It could explain how he's so powerful (he absorbs the other unicorn's magic or something), and why it's dark magic; cannibalism is a corruption of poniness (for lack of a better term), so any power he gain is also corrupted.

 

Hey, he could've even started out as simply an ambitious young Unicorn who was attempting to increase his own power. Maybe he started with, say, grinding down a Unicorn horn he took off a dead Unicorn and mixing the powder into his wine or something. When that didn't work, maybe he tried using blood or something. Still failing, he made the jump to living Unicorns. Never satisfied, he eventually started just straight up eating Unicorns, which gave him a ton of power, but also corrupted him into what he is today.

Hmmm, hard to say. He certainly had quite a set of choppers there didn't he? That, and when he licked his chops when he was about to grab the Crystal Heart from Spike, it seemed to be awfully suggestive that he was about to gobble up poor Spike! I doubt that it would ever be canon that he was a carnivore or omnivore in any way, since I have a feeling that he was simply designed that way to appear more intimidating, but hey, ya never know? One thing is for sure, now that it's been speculated upon, there most definitely will be a fanfic about it. To your keyboards, grim dark writers, AWAY!!!!!!!! Eh, I'm gonna move this to Show Discussion. It's discussing a character from the show, even if it is all head canon concepts.

 

Being a proud hater of grimdark, I'm gonna go with 'no' to the cannibal theory. Someone else pointed out in another topic that Sombra is a unicorn who took over an empire of Crystal Ponies, who are seemingly all earth ponies. In my own mind, Sombra was once just a normal unicorn, perhaps a prodigy in the ways of magic not unlike Twilight. He delved into dark/black magic and embraced it, seeking power, and let it utterly consume him. Though his mastery of dark magic gave him immense power, over the years it twisted his mind. Soon he was nothing short of a tyrant who sought to rule with an iron hoof, slaves at his knees.

 

So no, normal unicorn who fell into darkness.

Come to think of it, that could be why all the Crystal Ponies don't want to remember what it was like back when he was in power, he did something to ~2/3 of the population. He ate some Unicorns for their power, and killed the rest so any rebel groups wouldn't have access to magic. Same with the Pegasi; killed some he wouldn't have to deal with any fliers trying to escape or fight back.

Perhaps he developed a way to corrupt the ponies themselves so only Earth Ponies could be born?

Discord got rid of unicorn horns and pegasi wings through his reality warping magic, I don't think it's totally implausible that advanced dark magic couldn't do the same thing, permanently.

Yes, but it was mentioned a few times that they didn't WANT to remember. Of course, it could just be because ponies' lives are usually so peaceful and whatnot, being conquered would traumatize them to a far greater extent than it would to a human population.

Yeah, the cannibalism thing was more of a spur-of-the-moment thing, you know, fitting in with the thread. I'll probably use this in some head canon thing, but without the cannibalism.

Perhaps he captured most all the Pegasi/Unicorns to experiment on ways to magically remove their wings/horns. Either way, they were removed from the population somehow. When he finally found a way, he spread the spell across the Empire, causing all ponies to be Earth Ponies. That's when Luna and Celestia got involved; until that point, they didn't want to get involved in foreign affairs, but when Sombra started messing with entire countries worth of ponies on such a personal, invasive level, he had to be stopped.

No. The fangs are most likely a side affect of being overtaken by Dark Magic. Giving him a more feral look that resembles how horrible his powers truly are.

I think they just put those carnivore teeth to represent how evil he is. I also doubt he would eat any other pony like a carnivore but he may curse them. Yes, I did think he threatened to kill ponies at first but I watched it more and he just lays curses onto them.

One of my first thoughts on seeing him was he was a unicorn equivilent of one of these guys:

 

 

Either way, I'll go with the idea that the black magic he was using affected his body as well as his mind. Notice his wavy mane? Just like the princesses, which implies he has some serious magic power at his disposal. I imagine his fangs and gaseous eyeshadow was a side effect of using that much black magic for a long time.

 

As for why he was trying to eat Spike at the end...well, the stallion's a psycho, no doubt about it.

When Luna disguised herself as Night Mare Moon in "Luna Eclipsed", she wore fangs as part of the costume. I suspect that sharp teeth is not an instantly indicative of the character's eating habits. In other words, I think they exist to accentuate how "evil" that character may be; fangs make them appear more menacing, like a vampire or werewolf.

 

But given that King Sombra enjoys enslaving entire populations, casting as some sort of cannibal seems appropriate if a bit stereotypical. By that I mean horror stories could form around Sombra regarding how truly evil he was. After all, the myth of Nightmare Night was that Night Mare Moon would consume ponies if they didn't offer her candy.

The vagueness in the context of everyone's diet doesn't seem to hold much consistency to it even if it were to be revealed at times. Judging by Sombra's appearance, one can automatically assume he craves a meat diet just because of his fangs, but those could very well be the result of some freak transformation (the thing that could have "controlled" him during his conquest of the Crystal Empire).
