Gameinformer - Gamers' Response to Bronies

Recommended Posts

I have a subscription to a very popular magazine that does reviews and news for video games. I'm sure most of you have heard of it.

In one of the last few issues or so, they compared something to be "as frilly as My Little Pony". Probably to make it look girly.

In the next issue, a brony made a response to the last magazine in an article named "Who Are You Calling Frilly?". He defended the show's manliness by talking about their adventures of fighting dragons and giant lion-beast-things. The writers responded with "Settle down, Brony. Just because your show has

dragons in it doesn't make it any less girly to watch."

In a following issue, another brony made a response to that article, saying that "Not all bronies are harsh like the idiot that wrote in the last issue. Gameinformer claimed it got "Letters from bronies that were so harsh it would make the ponies from the show shrivel up and die."

(I'll put a picture here of the article later.)

I was just hoping to get this out there, and I don't think this impresses the gaming community at all, if anyone did care.

Yeah, I saw this myself in the magazine, and I really didn't care what they wrote about it. I know for a fact that they all secretly watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, so all is well. :3

Yeah I read that too. I'm sure the magaizine writers do not think it's frilly and are just calling it frilly for whatever writing reasons they have. As for the first brony, sending a letter to a magazine threatening them is not gonna get you anywhere.

Unfortunately it is popular to rag on Bronies right now. I would guess that they received far more reasonable letters saying that we don't care about the girly image than they did antagonistic letters. But of course, they only mention the ones that cause conflict since its more entertaining to read.

I've heard a lot of crappy radio station hosts talking about the scary bronies. God I hate those late talk show wannabes.

This was from a while ago (I actually met my first brony friend at school while reading this in a magazine) but I see this as a way to prove the communities dedication to our ideals of love and tolerance. Its not how were criticized that makes us up, but how we react to the criticism.

People take game informer seriously?

This!

You see we have two evils going on here. Shitty gamer magazine who's "critics" sell out more than a desperate whore, and the rage of Bronies that have clearly forgot about Love and Tolerance!

First off... okay someone calling MLP girly is a TOTALLY justified statement! I haven't read the article my self, but did they happen to mention Friendship Is Magic? If not then go look up the older generations and your eyes will burn of girlishness! If he did mention Friendship is Magic then he is STILL justified. I don't like Bronies who deny that the show is girly! The point of being a Brony is that you fully know that this show is girly, but you accept it anyway for the plot, characters, animation, fan base, etc. Anyone who doesn't think MLPFIM is girly is clearly in denial. It's like Power Puff Girls... my friends all knew it was REALLY girly, then someone left the tv on while it aired and we saw it and realized, "Hey this isn't half bad!" But you cannot tell me either of these shows are NOT girly!

How the fan basis should've reacted was with a flood of well written letters telling them that they perhaps did not like the wording of a review. Bronies need to write letters as if they were writing a letter to Princess Celestia. Nice grammar, sound educated, make your point clear, and most importantly consider the other side of the argument!

Example:

Dear Game Informer,

It has come to my attention that you have stated something that may offend some readers. I refer to when you state My Little Pony as "frilly". Now I understand where you are coming from that My Little Pony has been for years an incredibly girly show, but there has recently been a re-imagination of the series dubbed "Friendship is Magic" or G4. This new generation of Ponies is a very well animated show that I firmly believe can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of gender. It has many unforgettable characters and top notch animation. If I had to compare it to anything, I'd compare it to Power Puff Girls (which are both made by Lauren Faust) which was a very girly show, but it also spoke to other audiences. Now I agree that My Little Pony is girly, EVEN Friendship is Magic, but some other Bronies may have been insulted by your comment. We are often despised by other members of the online community for watching the tv show due to the stereotypes of the older generations. We wish to put the past behind us for a bright future of Love and Tolerance! We forgive you for your comment. I mean how could you have known any better, but in the future please refrain from speaking negatively of My Little Pony specifically Friendship is Magic, or if it helps, just don't bring up the subject at all.

Sincerely,

Dylan Yocca & Everypony of the Brony Community

I'm sure if they got a thousand letters like that they'd react better. Perhaps they'd even issue an apology! (doubt it) But it is the extremist fans that give us a bad name! Guys just remember Love and Tolerance!

I have a letter for game informer.

Dear Game Informer,

Please try to stop sucking so hard. You really should inform your critics that they should actually give ratings based on how good a game is, not how much money the publishers paid you. Now, I realize that playing video games is hard work, and your critics are probably doing something more important, such as playing other games, but one really should beat a game at least a few times before critiquing it in a "professional" gaming magazine.

Sincerely

I stopped taking game informer seriously after they said the sawn off shotgun from gears of war 3 was "the most balanced weapon ever"

I stopped taking ANY mainstream magazine seriously when all their scores are either near perfect 10s or 7s as an average... 7 is average? 7 should be a good... 5 is average! Plus they sell out and write rubbish reviews. I'm sure you'll never see a major Call of Duty title under a 9.5 when they are poorly designed and have created the absolute WORST generation of gamers ever! I'd give them about a 5, but I don't believe Olympic diving and video games have a compatible scoring system. I'd give it a solid "average" because local multiplayer is usually entertaining IMO. Also if half your scoring is based around graphics pull your head out of your ass! As much as I love visuals games need to focus on being a game, NOT a movie!

Sorry this is probably just the ranting of an amateur critic. It is my firm belief that a critic's job is to point out the flaws of a game, point out a few positives. Most importantly, make sure you are letting your reader know what they are getting into before they purchase a title. If I read Game Informer's review on MW3 they'd probably try to play it out as the greatest game ever. Oh haha No! Not even close! Duke Nukem Forever was better and that game was one of the most upsetting things I've ever witnessed in my life!

Wait...seriously?

Okay I don't even play Gears of War at all and even I know that's bull. How can a SAWN-OFF SHOTGUN be possibly balanced?!

I kinda wish Gameinformer would go ahead and actually watch the show, then make a review instead of having arguments with fans.

This is old news, but I can relate, I know plenty of "Bronies" who don't take Love and Tolerance into consideration, so I simply look at the as amature Bronies until they take this to heart. As for the magazine, I disagree with the statement, but the overall magazine is both entertaining, and they do bring up good points and good articles. I have spoken with people who write magazines like this, and they say that they don't get payed for the reviews, but some biasim comes to play often in most magazines yet you should be able to look past that and judge the game yourself. If the guys at gameinformer think that MLP is girly (which is true) and is a waste of time it's there opinnion and we shouldn't let it effect us.

To be honest, they probably watch MLP...

Bashing bronies is "in and cool" at the moment, so we just gotta weather the storm and wait.

Hey man, Ghost's show is srius bisnis.

But yeah, Game Informer is a magazine that's biased as all hell. I remember when I still had a subscription to them they had a preview for some game involving guns and greek myth, and they were making it sound like the best thing ever. When it actually came out, it flopped and sucked. So who gave it the highest grade and recommended it, not wanting to look bad?

Take a wild guess.
