I might go see it when I get out of school for Christmas break.  I'm not entirely sure though.  I might just stay home and read or write all day.  It all depends on my dad's mood at the time.  I'm hoping it's good though.

I watched it a few hours ago, and my opinion was just what I expected before watching it.

Masterpiece. Something like this could have only been created by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Well, I will not give you guys spoilers, because that would just ruin the fun, and that is what trailers were made for, not me.

All I can say is that... It is amazing. I feel so inspired right now.

I am so sentimental right now...  (,o u o)

I just got back from seeing in the cinema today.  Today was the first day it was out in the USA. I didn't really want to go see it at midnight, so i went this morning at 11:30 a.m.   Firstly, I am glad that peter jackson  was put on the project.  He has a nack for only picking out the truly important bits from tolkien's stories and telling it in a way to hold the audience instead of boring them with needless details.    I love the way they seem to reuse some of those familiar tunes that were in the LoTR trilogy.    The reviews had stated that this movie was a bit slow to pick up.  however, I found that it wasn't the case.

The movie looks really good, but I don't want to see it until I've read the books. I have the first 2 Lord of the Rings books, but I want to read the Hobbit first. I'll get it as soon as I can.

Have you see the Lord of The Rings movies? - Yes. I was bored one night and I remembered my parents got me the Lord of The Ring

Do you like them? - No, I didn't. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to like it, I just couldn't find any real "hook." [Que Hate]

Have you read The Hobbit? - I actually never heard of it before I heard of the Hobbit movie.

What are your expectations of The Hobbit? - ...a movie for a novel.

Are you going to watch The Hobbit? - Probably not

If not, why? - I don't go to the movie theater. When I do, it's gotta be a REALLY good movie.

What do you think about the movie being split into 3 parts at 2h 50m instead of the original idea which was 2 movies at 3h 30m? - It's a stupid idea. It seems like one of those gimmicks to make more money per viewer.

How much do you believe the HFR will affect the experience of the movie? Nothing more than make it look pretty.

The Lord of the Rings ties with Star Wars as my favorite movie (I count a series as just one film sometimes). The Hobbit is, very much, the best book I have ever read. Naturally I was really excited to know that a film was being made. Especially with Shore, Jackson, and a lot of the original people on it, along with Freeman and Cumberbatch both starring in it. :D

So, today I watched it in Real 3D and HFR.

It was, by far, amazingly horrible. So dreadful, that I really felt like I was going to cry because of how horrid it was. :(
No. I am not joking. It was, in fact, that bad. I'm feel rather depressed now because I was looking forward to it for so long.

Now, the only reason is was so horrible was it looked weird. All the way through the entire film. When things moved, it looked off, and cheesy, like some old rubbish made-for-TV movie. I don't know how to explain to you how bad it looked. But it was awful, and it basically ruined the film for me.

I believe this was due to the new high frame rate they have, 48 FPS. Or possibly the 3D, (though I've seen 3D films before), or maybe the theater just messed it up. But I think it's the frame-rate.

OTHER THAN THAT, the film was absolutely brilliant in so many ways. I really did love it, even if I did hate it at the same time. It is a wonderful and remarkable film. And I really look forward to watching it again in 24 FPS. And everyone should totally see it because it's really, really great.

I particularly like Radagast the Brown. He was brilliant. And so was Thorin, and Bilbo, and everything except for the way it was presented.

I should note, however, that some people seem to really love the new 48 FPS. I can't stand it. But perhaps it's just me, or my family. So if you go for HFR, it's going to be great for you or ruin the film.

This contains spoilers. Proceed at own caution.

I saw the film and unlike many others, I complain it was too action-y. I think it's because it's Bilbo's retelling and Gandalf says stories need a little bit of embellishment.

Still one of my favourite films this year, though.

I was also expecting Aragorn and Arwen to show up-maybe in the next film? Hope so *crosses fingers*

I think the reason it got fairly bad reviews is because it infers a LOT from his other works, and because they usex a lot of information from his Appendixes, which are crazy detailed and really long. My brother and I are devoted fans, so we understood it all, and I think that's why we liked it so much as compared to my parents, who thought it was very meh.

There were reasons for the Orc design (again, loads of info) but if you want to understand it fead everything he's written on Middle Earth. He's a bloody genius.

All in all, loved it. While I don't think it can beat Moonrise Kingdom for bedt film of the year, that 48 fps change blew me away, and it's probably the most visually stunning I've seen. Avatar can be argued but besides Sigourney Weaver that was bad XD

Oh my gosh, it was amazing. I bet die hard Tolkien fans are loving this one, because they are really expanding upon it very well. They gave more time to Gandalf's subplot with the necromancer, mentioned Ungoliant ( I tried to read the Silmariilion once so I got the reference), and gave Radagast scenes. The CGI Gollum was amazing, and I liked the expansion on the fall of the dwarf kingdom. I give it an A+

I am really wanting to see this movie so badly now,

I really loved the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

I have yet to read the books, but I am planning on it soon though

if the movies are good, then I can imagine the books being great

Well I believe so. I've heard other people complain about it too. Maybe your eyes are all messed up mate!

jk.

Seriously though I liked the 48 fps it made it look more realistic and smoother.

I guess that some people just can't enjoy it. Maybe I do have messed up eyes. :(

I saw The Hobbit today and it was so good!!!! It was even better than I was expecting!!!

Spoilers below:

Random question: If Gandalf can summon giant birds, why didn't they just ride those birds instead of traveling on foot?

There were some cool parts but I always have trouble understanding these types of movies, because they don't make me care enough about the environment, the plot, the themes etc. Maybe I'm not the right kind of audience for them.

I am dying just waiting for this to come out. A little more than two months and wow....I'll be in Hobbit heaven.

In my opinion, if you see only one hobbit movie...the Desolation of Smaug us the one to see.

Looks decent. I'm still a bit bothered by the overly digital look of these films compared to TLotR but I know that won't matter so much if the story pulls me in.

I'm curious about the pacing of this though...

SPOILERS FOR THE HOBBIT 2 & 3.  AND A 76-YEAR-OLD BOOK.

If they intend to bring this to any sort of climax (and considering there's still one more film to go) then the logical place to end it would be after the death of Smaug. If that ends up being the case, what's the last film going to be about? Is it just going to be a 3-hour battle scene?

They're stretching this material too thin, like butter scraped over too much bread.

The last film is the Battle of Five Armies.. The Hobbit really should have been two movies, so then third one will need to be padded a bit.

I hear that Benedict Cumberbatch guy (famous for Sherlock and recently Star Trek: Into Darkness) is going to be playing some necromancer character in the upcoming Hobbit movie. I bet you all that he'll be everywhere give or take a year or two haha he's already starting to pop up all over the place

I'm aware they're using material from the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales to do the padding. I haven't read either yet, so I can't tell if there's wisdom in that or not. Still, three hours to cover what's essentially a battle and an epilogue is too much. I hope when all three films are out some fan with editing skills will whip up an unofficial version with a more reasonable length.

He's also playing the dragon. You can hear him at the end of the latest trailer. biggrin.png

"Look at the poll, see no options that fits my situation."

I never watched Lord of the Ring, but I should. And I already watched The Hobbit, but never readed any of the books.

I'm going to watch those movies someday...

You really ought to see the Lord of the Rings. Utterly epic in a way the Hobbit can never be.

and when you rent, rent the extended versions, not the normal ones. Much better.

Ok. That said. Why the heck has only one video blog been released so far in 2013?!!

I'm going through withdrawals here.
