What do you think of Memebase?

I hate the site so much. People upload content to the site that they don't have the permission to, then it gets there stupid little banner put on it, people share the content with the banner then the content is harder to find without the banner than with.

Damn it.

Ugh, I agree with you. But your problem is with the entire "cheezburger network" itself.

Eric Nagakawa, the creator, is just a thief who stole memes like Caturday, slapped his name on them and got rich. It's the Wal*Mart of internet humor sites: Taking out the little guy (small-time artists, etc.), making the mass-produced garbage the norm ("meme creator" "Rage face generator") and leaving behind a trail of pollution ("Chuck Testa", which is not a "meme" but a paid advertisement forced virally).

The Cheezburger notices a trend or a popular thing, and creates it's own crappified version of a site for it, trying to brute-force the little guy out. Examples are them creating that "Bob's house of video games" site, and stealing content from Halolz and using their banner to cover the Halolz banner, and their "My Little Brony" site, commonly seen taking art from the community, and commonly having their banner conveniently cover a signature.

There's a reason their banner covers part of the image instead of it being added to the bottom of the image as extra space: To potentially cover original creator info, and to make it so the image looks "off" if you crop it off.

Ah yes, I didn't see that.

Just surprises me that bronies would participate in the stealing of content. Bluntly insulting artists.

(edited)

Well, I am a lazy bunghole, and I don't look for pictures.

So my little brony shows me pictures.

Yeah me too! I'll make sure to find an alternative site soon.

It helps me too finding funny pony-pictures and I got introduced to Ponies though this site so I kinda like it :)

But in the comments it seems as there are 90% trolls :P

Psst... let me tell you of a super secret magical pony image site.

I already explained the evils of the "Cheezburger network" but I'll add these for good measure.

Profit. The "Cheezburger network" frequently steals content from operators of small-time sites, and uploads it to their own sites uncredited. This brings up the matter of ad revenue. Since the "Cheezburger network" doesn't like to the original site the image or video came from, the little guy gets no money. Now, who needs the ad revenue more, the little guy, or crappy posers?

Personality. Which is better, a site designed and operated by a person with a sense of humor who actually has interest in the material they are working with, or crappy kitsch thought up by a "PR & Marketing Communications Specialist"?

Intelligence. Which do you prefer, a site where quality is a consideration on content being displayed, or a site where they shovel our any crap as fast as they can because to them, more content = more money? Where there's actually thought into the content you see, or where every post is either "Nope. Chuck Testa" or "...but then I took an arrow in the knee"?

I went there once, never went back. Not only do they steal people's work, but the community is full of rotten trolls.

Most of them provide a source, I can't hate on it since it introduced me to MLP. Don't hate the website, hate on the people who don't provide sources.

Or hate on the operators of the site for not inspecting content and doing a background check on it to make sure the creator is properly credited. If I remember correctly, you can copy/paste an image in Google image search to find similar images, so there's really no reason not to other than laziness.

Who says My Little Brony is my only source? I have over 5 GB of pony pictures I get them from everywhere, I like MLB because it's quick and easy and it's a branch of Memebase. I said I CAN'T hate it because it's where I learned about MLP.

Ah. Well, the previous points I made in this thread are still valid, though.

Anyway, I will admit that the site was part of my first exposure to bronies. Which may or may not be a good thing. It would be nice to see a "condensed pony images" site run by, y'know, actual bronies though.

Ponibooru isn't just full of Rule 34, but also all sorts of other art in poor taste, Grimdark, violent imagry I'd rather not see. I never go on there if I can avoid it.

I don't go to this MyLittleBrony place either. If I need a real source for some art, I'll check out DeviantArt or Equestria Daily's Drawfriends.

Well said Kyronea, DeviantART and Equestria Daily together have nearly all of the pony art, There is even some here on this site.

Some sites are too liberal in what they accept, what we need is a image hosting site that has a well organized structure.

Personally I don't really like the structure of blogs.

DeviantART sometimes has too much, if you're not sure what you're looking for it can be hard to find it.

If you haven't guessed yet, I think we need a dedicated pony image site with a search engine and well tagged images. Use some fancy algorithms to suggest art that you will enjoy. (or just random other images)

That should make it easy to find more.

I'd like to thank the MLP Vector Club for the images used in my avatar.

Known as "Princess Mi Amore Cadenza", "Trixie the Great", "Tom" and "Tomzoid the EggDroid".

Iam not a big fan of ponibooru either for the reasons you named.

deviantART is cool and EquestriaDaily is really like a Newspaper to me and I check it out every day. But I still have that feeling that I might miss something nagging on my mind but I don't know where I should start to check things out
