I really do love the connection with RD and Scootaloo's mentor / sister relationship in the fandom and it is great the show made an episode around this and amazing one at that. That wing hug scene just has so many feels for me. I literally cried when Rainbow Dash carried Scootaloo during the race up to the top of the falls... On the one hand, we have the Best Night Ever, with possibly the best musical sequence in the series, the first appearance of Flutterbitch, and an upperclass, hoity-toity soiree turning into absolute chaos. On the other hand, we have maybe the best episode of Season 3 so far, with some great Scootaloo development, and an AWESOME appearance by Luna. You know what? Just too close to call for me. I think Sleepless in Ponyville was actually just an average episode, but absolutely overflowing with fan appeal - Luna, Scootalove, even a Scootaloo-central episode. It's like a rock music fan going to a classical music concert with guest stars Dave Grohl and Jimmy Page. I also never saw why so many people liked Scoots. :\ That being said, I really liked the new animation - so seamless and silky smooth. Also considering it was a new writer's first episode for the series, I can't be too harsh on it. The Best Night Ever, on the other hand, holds special praise from me. The first season itself was the one that stood out for me, for simply being classic MLP before the brony fandom really took hold (I hated the appearances of Derpy in S2) - the finale was especially representative. Every pony of the Mane 6 got their own chance to shine, their own little story and ambition, and they all come together at the end in a very humorous turn of events. It was perhaps the only episode in the entire series that focuses on the entire Mane 6, as opposed to only one or two of them, and they did it surprisingly well. I would have expected it to be rushed, since they're running on such a time constraint, but it wasn't. However, then there's Sleepless in Ponyville. I loved the message in Sleepless, and I loved how it was presented. It includes what I find to be the most heartbreaking scene in the entire series (when Scootaloo confesses to Dash that she was afraid) followed by the most heartwarming (the winghug). For me though, The Best Night Ever wins this one, I love Pinkie's song, the even time devoted to each of the mane six, and all the outfits. Let's not forget Fluttershy's moments... While the Best Night Ever is a great episode, Sleepless In Ponyville is greater. It's kind of a relief, most of the time I'm voting for the loser. Anyway, Sleepless in Ponyville was sweet enough to give people diabetes. Best Night Ever had great song and it was nice to see how the Mane 6 could cope when reality didn't exactly match with their anticipation and plans. That's about it. Sleepless in Ponyville on the other hand didn't have a song, but did have great Scootaloo character development. And it also had a bit of fanservice as it seemed like RD was like Scootaloo's big sister for a while there. Also, Luna was confirmed as the Princess who can go into other ponies' dreams. I do not get this. I'm guessing it's getting a lot of votes from the gamefaqs community, since that's where the poll is. Kamil 315 January 17, 2013 Share January 17, 2013 The Best Night Ever is extremely entertaining, probably more so than Sleepless in Ponyville in my opinion, but it also doesn't really have a lot of character or relationship development; at the end the only change is nobody wants to go to the Gala anymore. I've said it far too many times, but this episode was perfect. The emotion, the animation, the character development, everything. The best episode of the show IMO. Best Night Ever was great too, particularly due to the music and the humor. However, I thought the ending was kind of rushed. Aside from that, it's a great ending to season 1, but not as good as SiP. Best Night Ever had all of the Mane 6 have another experience in an episode together, even though they all did not get what they wanted at all or most of them were miserable. TailsIsNotAlone 3,695 January 17, 2013 Share January 17, 2013 (edited) This is the toughest choice yet for me. Both are in my top ten episodes, maybe even my top five. The Best Night Ever was the culmination of a great story arc, the kind we haven't seen since. It had my favorite song of the series complete with a local choir, courtesy of Michelle Creber's mother who sang with them. It was the most ambitious animated and musical sequences the show had ever done and they pulled it off brilliantly, leading to more epic numbers later on. As if that weren't enough, the story itself truly touched me as a fan. I identified with every one of the Mane 6 as their dreams were inevitably deferred by reality, and they still found happiness in being together as Spike told them all along. Sleepless in Ponyville was the best show of Season 3 by a leap, a great debut for Corey Powell and a very genuine way of integrating something the bronies wanted to see with the spirit of the show. This was something that Magic Duel did not succeed in. But with that episode set to run into a brick wall called Hurricane Fluttershy, I feel secure in picking which of these episodes I truly like more: The Best Night Ever. DashForever and TailsAlone wrote meticulous comments in support of Sleepless in Ponyville and The Best NIght Ever respectively. TBNE had great music, At the Gala as well as the Pony Pokey. It shows that life doesn't always go according to plan (though some people hate TBNE because things got ridiculously bad). It also gave us arguably the best MLP quote ever: Fluttershy's "YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE ME!" On the other hand, Sleepless in Ponyville is thus far the best episode of Season 3. Scootaloo finally got some long overdue character development and went ahead of Apple Bloom as my second favorite CMC. The dream sequence with Luna was brilliant. And when Luna asks "Is the headless horse really what frightens you the most?", you could tell that Scootaloo's real fear was that Rainbow Dash would reject her. And the fact that SIP is full of laughs helps too. I cast my vote for Sleepless in Ponyville. It was trailing 25 to 22.
