GuillermoGage 246 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 (edited) I've definitely noticed that there are a lot of Rarity fans here who are "conservative" in some way, whether it be cultural or societal beliefs about stuff. Quite a few, but not all. And Fluttershy attracts a certain mindset. So, are people who like Applejack of the typical "country music" personality? I just haven't noticed because strong Applejack fans aren't as vocal, even with the reoccurring phrase "Applejack is a background pony". So, what about Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Twilight Sparkle? Are fans of Twilight Sparkle less talkative about their opinions about social issues? Edited January 7, 2013 by GuillermoGage
PinkiePai 181 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 (edited) I love Derpy and I'm not retarded ( ), neither do my eyes derp all the time. Now for Pinkie Pie, I'm not really a party person and I don't jump around and say random stuff, she's just fun. AnonyPoni 564 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 Im a fan of Octavia, probably because I like to be classy (and I like classy girls... who I can't find in Southern IL <..<) While the ponies personal beliefs are pretty much what I think (ie Friendship is Boss Magic), politically, i think the show should stay out of that realm. That said, I dont see too much political stuff on the show (yet), so I think we're safe now. I should also say that Applejack has made me like the country style a bit more again, seeing is that I live... in the middle of nowhere (it's not really that but it feels that way)
~Lawful Sturdy Wing~ 522 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 I am a Rainbow Dash fan and I mirror her athletic and competitive side. I am less rude and brash but I am ludicrously competitive, I am a professional competitive swimmer and I have her cutie mark tattooed on my thigh, Dashie is my inspiration and has kept me in the pool on more than one occasion.
Skyfire 62 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 i think that the fav. pony reflekts the character you like at people. so if a girl (if youre a boy) has the character of fluttershy, you may like it more then another girl behaving like applejack. Shanks 10,816 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 Yes but not directly, it does reflect who you are which does have an influence on your political and personal beliefs but it is not always as clear cut. Yes I think there are quite a few Applejack fans that have that southern country background but being born and raised in Southern California I am not one of them. When I first got into politics I was extremely liberal but a set of circumstances which are way off topic and would take too long to explain made me a hard core libertarian. So politically speaking I was never and am certainly not now your stereotypical southern personality. What makes me connect with Applejack and reflects my personal beliefs is that she is honest, blunt, somewhat stubborn and is not afraid to speak her mind. If there is one thing I can't but in politics and in my personal life it is BS, being a liar is one of the quickest and easiest to piss me off. I have a strong sense of justice and right and wrong and trying as best I can to leave this world just a little better than I found it. I also strongly related to Twilight in large part because she reminds of what I was like when I was an intelligent yet socially awkward child. It is that background which has contributed to my sense of justice because I know what it is like to be very focused and obsessive about certain things. During that time I had a few of Twilghts OCD like tendencies though not nearly as bad, I can still get a bit obsessive over certain things but have improved quite a bit. I am on the Autism spectrum and am a hard core fan of Derpy. My voice sounds normal and I don't have googly eyes and was called retarded a few times in the past but haven't been for a number of years but I identify with her because I know what it is like to be singled out for being different. This also feeds into my sense of justice and my determination to stand up and fight for the vulnerable and oppressed I am even going so far as to try to make a career out of it as an author/activist and think I have a very good chance of being successful. 1 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
Stellafera 3,836 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 (edited) I have noticed some trends among fans of ponies. Twilight fans tend to be more analytical and not very vocal about their favorite pony, Pinkie Pie fans love her bubbly and fun sense of humor, Fluttershy fans are attracted to the cute, Rainbow Dash fans are not unwilling to shout who their favorite is, etc. I feel too politically uninformed to establish any sort of strong opinion myself, so I don't know how that relates to my favorite character. Applejack has outer experiences and a day to day life very different from mine, but at the core, we are a bit more similar (see: The Last Roundup). But the pony I truly identify with is Twilight Sparkle. I was a loner for a while, found friends, and became 20% cooler. I also have the same fears; Boast Busters, Winter Wrap Up, Lesson Zero, It's About Time. I identify with them all and with all her other episodes. Never been a big fan of "country" sort of things. I'd love to move to a happening big city some day! I think that Applejack appeals to me because she is different on the outside but I can identify with her more inner personality. She's a bit like who I want to be. I hate disappointing and if I have a job to do, I feel bad doing it halfway. Applejack is honest, she never does anything halfway, whereas sometimes I can convince myself that I can, even if I feel like I shouldn't. But she still has those flaws that make her also relate to me as I am. I try too hard to do things perfectly sometimes. If I draw something, I try to add this and that to make it better, and I just end up smudging it up and making it worse. That's what episodes like Apple Family Reunion are about, and I love them for it. Also, Applejack has a wicked sense of humor. Everyone in real life tells me that I'm funny, so I guess I've got that. Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 I identify with Rainbow Dash the most. I love to compete and I also love to show off. GuillermoGage 246 January 7, 2013 Author Share January 7, 2013 (edited) I wonder if there is some sort of correlation between one's favorite pony and one's politics. I wasn't really intending for this to be a "are people similar to their favorite pony?" Beat Shock, Bhotty, Lady Rarity Pony, and I think a few other Rarity fans have similar beliefs. and some Rainbow Dash fans are very anti-establishment or very radical or liberal. Hansel 1,512 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 (edited) I honestly can't decide on who my favorite pony is. If we're narrowing it down to the main six and I was forced to choose, then I'd probably say Fluttershy, but I don't think I'm much like her. The only thing I really have in common with her is that I get nervous or anxious about social situations (even though I do enjoy the company of others). I also tend to avoid issues that involve other people, as opposed to confront them. I'd say my second favorite is probably Twilight, and I think I can relate to her the most out of the main six. I can be a bit of a hermit and I spend a lot of my time on my studies. (The first episode where she rejects the party invitation? I feel you bro) I'm also a pretty big skeptic and value scientific evidence. (Ironically, I'm also a bit a of Pinkie Pie when it comes to food, laughter and when I feel more comfortable in social situations. ) My favorite princess is Luna, but I don't think I'm serious enough to be much like her. And as much as I love the night, I usually find it hard to stay up past 3am. My favorite background ponies are Vinyl Scratch, Octavia and Colgate, but it's a little harder to pinpoint similarities as very little of their personalities come from the show itself. I wub Electronic music and I love Classical as well. Colgate is just adorbz. Edited January 7, 2013 by Hansel Pancakes taste like well seasoned DVD cases. TailsIsNotAlone 3,695 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 Not quite. Rainbow Dash is a lot of things I'm not. Competitive, loud, blunt, brave and hungry for attention. If she has political beliefs they're probably on the "everypony for themselves" end. But maybe that's why I admire her the most out of all the ponies. In some ways, she's the kind of person I want to be. "Human beings fascinate me Being just the way they are..."
Starswirl the Trixie 975 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 Seems like most people are answering "Are you like your favorite pony.", when the question is more about political beliefs. Which, in my case, my favorite ponies do. Twilight shows my more "pro-science" side (which, sadly, is indeed a political issue). Some of my radical, critical views of modern society and culture are represented in Trixie, the only pony in the show who appears to be (although not politically active) against manestream Equestrian life/society/culture. #SOCKS
MeowLord Noraasha 135 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 Uhm I don't have very rich political side... I think that politics should be erased. If the people would be smart enough and loving enough towards each other there wouldn't be any need for politics or politicians. My favourite is RD. I don't really know what her political view would be but I assume that she wouldn't be very into politics as well as I. 1 UNITED WE STAND If anyone feel like talking, chatting, need an advice, have a problem or just need cheering up, I'm at your service. SilverStarApple 849 January 7, 2013 Share January 7, 2013 I suppose you could say I'm a bit like my favourite ponies, Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash. I'm like Twilight Sparkle, because I am smart, studious, intelligent, quick to learn new things, and I really hate disappointing those truly close to me, and I've been acused of having OCD. I'm also like Rainbow Dash, because I'm athletic, cocky, brash, awesome, energetic, determined, I love awesome things, and I love awesome people even more, and I'll never give up on my true friends. But how does my musical skill and love of good music factor into this? Does Fluttershy's skill with bird choirs count? I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was akin to a slow death. DoctorWhovian1902 596 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 Fluttershy is my favorite, and, yes, I do believe in being kind to others as a primary reaction. I'll admit I've said things that would prove otherwise, but my list of people I don't like is very small, and I only despise one person at our school. So I'd like to think Fluttershy is an excellent reflection of my beliefs. Oh yeah, and I'm great with animals (I grew up with a lot of them when I was younger). Indeed. I am just asking if anyone else is noticing a correlation between fave ponies and politics, but not really as a result of "having a similar personality" as the ponies? Beat Shock, Bhotty, and I think Lady Rarity Pony, and I have noticed a few others, are all Rarity fans who are either Catholic, economically conservative, or socially conservative. Now, I guess you could say that Rarity is the most "traditional" and "conservative" character because she is a "capitalistic" businesswoman and the "girliest" pony who wants to be wedded one day to an idealized stallion. And she has expressed the closest thing to religious beliefs in the series, she said, "Oh my stars, if I am dreaming, do not wake me up". So yeah, what's this about Pinkie Pie promoting trusting religiousness? Even then, I was not necessarily thinking about those traits as I was noticing more "right-wing" Rarity fanboys. Although I wouldn't really reckon Catholic followers as being right-wing.

Darke Pony 27 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 Well.. When it comes to the Mane6, with Fluttershy being my favourite, it is somewhat appropriate. Around people I don't know, I can be a bit shy, I have a great affinity with animals - they pretty much all seem to love me I'm always worried I'm causing grief for somebody, and apologising for it But with Luna being my favourite overall pony, it probably doesn't apply - although we're both playful but can be serious when needs be, that's really where the similarity ends D:

Darke Pony 27 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 I'm democrat, don't judge me XD I like Fluttershy, most likely because she's timid and apologetic but cute about the way she goes about it. Of course, I'm still reasonably new to MLP, so there'll probably be more facets in her personality for me to discover later on that might not be quite so endearing XD Twi comes a close second though, tied with Rarity, in the 'fave stakes'.
