I already talked about my excitement in another thread someone made about this. However, I didn't talk about which starter I'd choose. I am thinking I'll pick the fire-type this time, normally I'd go for either the grass and/or water. The fire-type in this new game looks really cute, and I can't resist. It'll be a challenge probably but it'll be fun too!

But deer lord, that water frog looks ugly. Meh, I always go for the grass-type anyway. But I might make an exeption this time, as long as the Firefox doesn't end up as ANOTHER Fire/Fighting-Type Pokemon. We have, like, three of those.

The artwork specifically mentions "hero" and "heroine," so I'm pretty sure these are the final player characters.

EDIT: I should note that the website says that these images are NOT final. There's a huge possibility that they will change during the course of development. Judging by previous releases, I'm betting we'll see an official release October 12th or 13th, but this is only a guess.

 

On a personal note: unless anythign changes, I think I'm going for Chespin, he looks pretty cool.

I really dont think this is a good idea at all. What i have notices is that people want tomake some games better but are just destroyng them. I am not the biggest fan of pokemon, but i really enjoyed playng on the old nitendos. Now when i see the 3D graphics it just loses all sense to the game.

 

That is at least my sight of wiev.

Im kind of a fan of those old pxels. And to be honest they didnt make the graphics so much better that it's amazing.

That's how I felt at first. In BW2 they started leaning at the 3D models and different points of view rather than the bird's eye of the map like in Blue/Yellow-Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. But to be honest, I love what they're doing. Like I mentioned before, I played pokemon collesseum as a child and it was incredible but I remember thinking how I wish it was set up the same way the gameboy games were set up. I guess in my mind, that's why this is a dream come true. When I saw B/W's pokemon I thought they looked lame, same with D/P/P but now, I've always come to love them. That's why I'm not upset with the new generation and platform.

I love the 3ds so much and even if I love the sprites, I always dreamed of playing pokemon in 3d (I've beaten XD and Colosseum more times than I can remember).  This game looks SO AWESOME.  I'm getting X with Fennekin, no doubt.  (The french names make me laugh so hard once again.  It seems like they can only come up with Fire this days xD)  Still waiting for the obvious Eevee evolution though.

I kinda like them. I think I like the battle graphics more than the overworld graphics. It kind of looks like Black and White with a different camera angle and Miis. It makes me wonder if development was originally started on the normal DS before moving to the 3DS. The battles are amazing though, instead of going full on 3d, they chose to use cel-shaing, which still retains the look of the sprites but using 3d models.

 

On another note, I think Chespin looks similar to Cappy from Hamtaro. Just sayin'.

I know! The grass starter looks like a brown oshawott with a hat. o_O I actually like the frog one and of course everyone adore the fox.

I agree with you man.  I love this guy but Fennekin is too awesome!  There's simply no way to compete against a fennec starter.  (I'm still laughing at Feunnec xD).

While Fennekin wins in pure cuteness, Chespin has a very funny and unique design and still has that cute factor. A clear choice for me and being a grass type is a big plus. ^^

I like all the starters, I'll probably have trouble picking one.

Will most likely be Fennekin though. I'll get whichever version has that awesome flying Pokemon too, I need it.

I'm pretty freakin' psyched about Gen 6!

Been watching that trailer over and over again!

 

Chespin's CUTE! He reminds me of Oshawatt which is pretty cool. Most people are thinking he may have used Night Slash in the trailer so he may be Grass/Dark.

 

Fennekin is probably my favorite. This may be the first time since 3rd Gen that I pick a Fire starter first! Reminds me of Vulpix/Ninetails. Might be Fire/Psychic because it appears to use a Psychic looking move.

 

Froakie is also a pretty cool looking dude too. I'm hoping he ends up being Water/Fighting, though at this point he could be just about anything. It's hard to tell with that 2nd move because its just some physical attack.

 

...But you do know what could be going on here! A Dual Triangle!

In Pokemon games prior, the starters all worked in a type triangle to counter one another. Fire > Grass, Grass > Water, Water > Fire. BUT, if my type guesses are correct, the starters have 2 type triangles at work; Psychic > Fighting, Fighting > Dark, Dark > Psychic. What is the most interesting, is that these triangles contradict one another.

Chespin would be useful to counter Froakie because Grass > Water, but if Froakie is Fighting and Chespin Dark, then Froakie would have the Secondary type advantage against is counter because Fighting > Dark!

 

I hope they implement this dual triangle. It would be a neat change-up to the typical start of a Pokemon game!

I admit that I was a little bit too excited when I first heard this news at college today. I really like the battle scenes that were shown in the video and they remind me a bit of the gamecube series. I have already chosen firefox as my starter, one of the few starters that has grabbed my attention since charmander and treecko.

 

The whole world wide release thing pleases me as well, especially after all the drama generation 5 caused where people were being accused of exploiting roms and take-down notices were flying everywhere.

I have been waiting for this kind of Pokemon game for so long! This is going to be a very long 10 month wait because I'm so excited~!

My favorite of the new starters is Fennekin. I'm hoping he evolves into something besides fire/fighting because that is way overused. It would be cool if he became fire/ground or fire/rock. I'm envisioning his final form being kind of like a sphynx-y type of thing, but who knows what it will actually be like. I'm not fond of Froakie, but there is always at least one Pokemon per generation that I don't particularly like.

After all the Generations in between (oh god G2...<3) they really stepped up to the mark, and I was kind of disappointed at the G5 Pokedex.

Gotta say though, I loved some of the new moves and reworks

 

From the days of Red, and his teeny-tiny bit self, these graphics are borderline sqUEee-worthy - If I was 12, with the same total adoration I had for Pokemon at the time, I would NOT be able to control myself at the site of this.

 

Also, although for some reason I don't like choosing the fire starter (too mainstream? :s) I have to say the Fennekin one is the awesomest-looking, although reminds me of a hybrid of Vulpix and Zorua.

 

The green one (Chenneeeakkfignnean?) remidns me of a Budew/Oshowhat Mix

The graphics look amazing. I was afraid that they'd be hideous.

 

This is also the first time I won't be choosing the grass starter in my first game of a generation. Fennekin is too cute, even if it won't ever be able to beat Arcanine as the best fire canine. Chespin might be able to redeem itself with its evolutions like Oshawott did, but for now I don't like it.

I used to love Arcanine...then I spent about a week or two EV training one, and did a bit of professional battling.
