I love Rainbow Factory... Is that wrong of me?

I really like the song AND the fanfic (mostly the sequel since it has more of a story) and I think the basis of it is really intriguing, (I like it enough to get a shirt XD ) I have seen many good feedback for the song and story, but quite a bit of negative feedback, saying it is extremely messed up. Is it bad that i really like it as a story element and set piece?

It's by no means bad, and as far as the three infamous, horror-themed fics go, this one is most "normal", if you will.

It's a horror story, and meant to be judged as such.  And as far as horror fics go, this is the cream of the crop.

So yes, it is entirely fine for you to love it.

Rainbow Factory is AMAZING compared to Cupcakes and CG and maybe SAM.

I hummed it for so long...

Its not half bad a fic, liked the song better though.

No it's not at all. It's just something that you like and if we were to say there was something wrong with you then we wouldn't be any better than any of the haters hating on us.

There ARE more people that is in to grim dark stuff.

Rainbow Factory is my favorite fan fic, and my favorite song. That said, of course not! Both are well written, and are not just gore for the sake of gore, or grim for the sake of grim. They actually have value.

Rainbow Factory is considered gore? I read it twice or more, didn't find much gore.

I'm not a big fan of grimdarks but there's nothin' bad about those who like them xD

I have to chip in on this.

Rainbow factory made me feel physically ill for two days after I read it. Lets just say my imagination makes me "feel" what the characters are going through as I read. While rainbow factory creeped me the fuck out and I dislike it myself (I dislike most fanfics though >.>) it's by no means wrong for you to enjoy it. If it's something you are interested in, be it for the story, how well written it is, or simply because it's a sadists dream (no offense ;) ) then by all means, it's completely normal for you to enjoy it. I enjoyed reading dominant species, is that wrong of me? No, it may not suit other peoples tastes, but it's not wrong.

Well I haven't read anything more than a summary of it, and I will say that I find the storyline pretty screwed up, but from what I understand it's actually fairly well-written and engaging. So while it's more or less the opposite of the fics that I usually read and I'm probably going to continue avoiding it like the plague I'm certainly not going to think less of you for enjoying it.

It's the polar opposite of wrong. Rainbow Factory is nigh on a masterpiece. It's very heart-wrenching and despairing, and the way in which those emotions come to me through reading it is one-of-a-kind. Putting this in white text to avoid spoilers, but the part where you find out \how Rainbow Dash has to govern a process of murdering Pegasi, with access to the much brighter outside world with the painful responsibility of never giving away its secret, ending up with her turning insane\ was a fantastically well-spun and controversial concept. I give huge props to the author.

I absolutely hated reading it, but it's one of my favourite fan fictions. I know right.

Not at all. I thought it was a pretty decent read.

Cheerilee's Garden and it's sequel (Scarlet Harvest) are my favorite grimdark fics, though.

The song is all kinds of awesome. I read the first fic and it creeped me out, it's definitely not my kind of grimdark, waaaay too serious. I mean "Pinkie goes crazy, violentely murders her friend and make cupcakes out of her?" THATS HILARIOUS!. "Pegasi kill the weak and make rainbows out of them?" thats terrifying and I don't want to read more of that (it was a good story though, even if it's not my cup of tea). I guess it's the realism factor: canonically, the pegasi are descended from a militocratic warrior race, so it's not hard to believe they could do something like this.

Murderous insanity is hilarious and entertaining, cold-blooded social darwinism is goddamn traumatizing.

Rainbow Factory, in my opinion, has more depth than Cupcakes, Sweet Apple Massacre, and all the other generic horror fics. You are not mad if you like it. In fact, I encourage everybody to like it because it is well thought out, and isn't a type of story that goes like this:

"I'm a killer. I'm going to kill you. I killed you. The end."
