themildlyconfusedgamer 38 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 I really like the song AND the fanfic (mostly the sequel since it has more of a story) and I think the basis of it is really intriguing, (I like it enough to get a shirt XD ) I have seen many good feedback for the song and story, but quite a bit of negative feedback, saying it is extremely messed up. Is it bad that i really like it as a story element and set piece?
~Asuka <3~ 867 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 It's by no means bad, and as far as the three infamous, horror-themed fics go, this one is most "normal", if you will. It's a horror story, and meant to be judged as such. And as far as horror fics go, this is the cream of the crop. So yes, it is entirely fine for you to love it. 2 #1 Asuka fanboy. Homura Akemi 974 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 (edited) Nope! It's one my my favourites! I listened to an audio reading of it last year in February. I got a 48 hour headache afterwards, but still liked it. Edited January 25, 2013 by ~Chaotic Dismajo~
Harmonic Revelations 8,837 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 I liked Rainbow factory, I liked the song more than the fiction but the fiction was good. It was fascinating and I tend to enjoy fiction of a dark nature.
Shift 4,274 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 Rainbow Factory is AMAZING compared to Cupcakes and CG and maybe SAM. I hummed it for so long... Its not half bad a fic, liked the song better though. 2 Have the courage to think and act on your own. And have the courage to disobey.
themildlyconfusedgamer 38 January 25, 2013 Author Share January 25, 2013 Good to know I'm not alone in the fact that I like dark stories (not straight up gore, but with a dark setting ) Thanks for reassuring me!
Wubsie 1,123 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 No it's not at all. It's just something that you like and if we were to say there was something wrong with you then we wouldn't be any better than any of the haters hating on us. There ARE more people that is in to grim dark stuff. 1 I Steam I PhotoBucket I Youtube I Ask Me Anything! Leafeon 2,702 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 Rainbow Factory is my favorite fan fic, and my favorite song. That said, of course not! Both are well written, and are not just gore for the sake of gore, or grim for the sake of grim. They actually have value. 2 Eeveelutions: @Vaporeon: N-Harmonia : Ampharos @Flareon: Descant/Bard @Espeon: Locked @Umbreon: Lhee @Leafeon: Firebolt @Glaceon: Mal @Sylveon: Don'tDropThatDedenne
themildlyconfusedgamer 38 January 25, 2013 Author Share January 25, 2013 Yeah, I don't like just plain gore fics, (i got squeamish at cupcakes) but enjoy fics that are dark, but also have story and value also (the song is just plain awesome, no discussion there! XD )
Pinkazoid 3,493 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 Rainbow Factory is considered gore? I read it twice or more, didn't find much gore. I'm not a big fan of grimdarks but there's nothin' bad about those who like them xD :
cuteycindyhoney 13,336 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 How is it any more wrong than liking Steven King books, or the "Saw" movies (I happen to like those, don't really know why!) People like what they like. It's that simple. Thank you Sparklefan1234!!!
Agent505 661 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 I have to chip in on this. Rainbow factory made me feel physically ill for two days after I read it. Lets just say my imagination makes me "feel" what the characters are going through as I read. While rainbow factory creeped me the fuck out and I dislike it myself (I dislike most fanfics though >.>) it's by no means wrong for you to enjoy it. If it's something you are interested in, be it for the story, how well written it is, or simply because it's a sadists dream (no offense ) then by all means, it's completely normal for you to enjoy it. I enjoyed reading dominant species, is that wrong of me? No, it may not suit other peoples tastes, but it's not wrong. I've been watching you, all this time. themildlyconfusedgamer 38 January 25, 2013 Author Share January 25, 2013 Thanks for your comments, and clearing things up for me! Snowdream 221 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 It's not wrong of you to like it! I for one love Rainbow factory. I don't know why but when I first read it I was obsessed and then I kept reading it and reading it. Also the song is really good as well! duidamasterXD 9,627 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 Well I haven't read anything more than a summary of it, and I will say that I find the storyline pretty screwed up, but from what I understand it's actually fairly well-written and engaging. So while it's more or less the opposite of the fics that I usually read and I'm probably going to continue avoiding it like the plague I'm certainly not going to think less of you for enjoying it. An Old Head 4,816 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 (edited) It's the polar opposite of wrong. Rainbow Factory is nigh on a masterpiece. It's very heart-wrenching and despairing, and the way in which those emotions come to me through reading it is one-of-a-kind. Putting this in white text to avoid spoilers, but the part where you find out \how Rainbow Dash has to govern a process of murdering Pegasi, with access to the much brighter outside world with the painful responsibility of never giving away its secret, ending up with her turning insane\ was a fantastically well-spun and controversial concept. I give huge props to the author. I absolutely hated reading it, but it's one of my favourite fan fictions. I know right. Bardock 139 January 25, 2013 Share January 25, 2013 Not at all. I thought it was a pretty decent read. Cheerilee's Garden and it's sequel (Scarlet Harvest) are my favorite grimdark fics, though. Rainbow Dash 1,473 January 26, 2013 Share January 26, 2013 i head the song and it wasnt bad. saw the artwork and at first i thought, "why do have to darken things up all the time internet?" The idea is growing on me however. can't seem to find the fan fic though. maybe im not looking hard enough R.I.P. Discovery Dream 593 January 26, 2013 Share January 26, 2013 I personally loved it. I enjoyed Cupcakes too, though in a more humorous fashion. The song was great and the fiction was well-written. no rest for the wizardly.

Scootalove 10,692 January 26, 2013 Share January 26, 2013 I guess Rainbow Factory is a good fan fic. Some are gruesome fan fics and some are nonviolent. But, I guess we all have an opinion. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Fluttermena 1,223 January 26, 2013 Share January 26, 2013 (edited) The song is all kinds of awesome. I read the first fic and it creeped me out, it's definitely not my kind of grimdark, waaaay too serious. I mean "Pinkie goes crazy, violentely murders her friend and make cupcakes out of her?" THATS HILARIOUS!. "Pegasi kill the weak and make rainbows out of them?" thats terrifying and I don't want to read more of that (it was a good story though, even if it's not my cup of tea). I guess it's the realism factor: canonically, the pegasi are descended from a militocratic warrior race, so it's not hard to believe they could do something like this. Murderous insanity is hilarious and entertaining, cold-blooded social darwinism is goddamn traumatizing. Yes-Man 597 January 26, 2013 Share January 26, 2013 By all means, not at all! I LOVE Fallout:Equestria, which is widely considered a grim dark for it's intense and somewhat depressing nature. And Rainbow Factory is the most ~normal~ of the 3 well known gore fics. "I'm done being patient. ShyForever 284 January 27, 2013 Share January 27, 2013 Rainbow Factory, in my opinion, has more depth than Cupcakes, Sweet Apple Massacre, and all the other generic horror fics. You are not mad if you like it. In fact, I encourage everybody to like it because it is well thought out, and isn't a type of story that goes like this: "I'm a killer. I'm going to kill you. I killed you. The end."
