Good morning fanclub!

 

 

Quite a few MLP writers have been a tad inconsistent, by my count. The same writers who wrote my favorites also wrote eps that I consider total duds. The difference here, and you are correct to point it out, is that Powell hasn't had a good one yet.

 

That either means a) she's due or b ) she's just not as good at this as everyone else. We're about to find out. I hope it's not the latter, because Rarity has been on a real winning streak in season 4, her solo eps are (mostly) fantastic, and it'd be a shame if all of that came to an end.

My faith in Powell is nonexistent after the 3 episodes she has written absolutely butchered Rarity's character by making her a one-dimensional diva and allowed her to fall under the stereotype of being a snotty fashionista; this was even evident in what little we saw of her in "Rainbow Falls."

Rarity is not only the number 1 reason I love this show, she's also a very important part of my life. The way Powell has written my waifu in the 3 episodes she has under her belt is awful. No, not awful; Powell, in 3 episodes, has enforced nearly everything that Rarity haters have labeled her as.

 

I'm sorry, but in baseball, it's "3 strikes, you're out," and Powell has swung at 3 pitches in the dirt when it comes to Rarity.

 

Again, hopes high, but I'm expecting to run into Show Discussion and have to bring the gavel down all day Saturday.

Don't forget Inspiration Manifestation is written by Corey Powell and Meghan McCarthy.

And isn't it the first time Powell wrote a Rarity episode? It can be different from when she writes Rarity as a background character like in Rainbow Falls...

A few counterpoints. Just some food for thought.

 

-None of Powell's episodes have been amazingly good yet, but "Sleepless In Ponyville" does have its charms and isn't a total mess like her other two episodes. There's at least glimpses at potential here, is what I'm getting at.

 

-All of us had to endure "Rainbow Falls". And Rarity's part in that wasn't good, to be sure. But neither was anyone else's. Just be glad that you weren't sitting through that glorious slow-moving train wreck with the perspective of a Rainbow Dash fan. I'm just sayin'. 

 

-Powell is only getting a co-writing credit for this one. The other writer with a hand in this one? Meghan McCarthy. And while she produced what I consider to be the show's biggest dud to date (that would be "Crystal Empire"), she's also wrote several exceptionally good episodes---and one of those solo Rarity outings that I'm sure you adore. Why hello there, "Sweet and Elite". If any co-writer can reign in Powell's worst instincts, I'm betting it's McCarthy.

 

Not that I'd bet the house on that actually happening. I share in your concern... Spike supposedly has an important role to play in this one, and I'm sure you know well of my fondness for Spike.

 

But still... keep the faith. What do we have left, if we have lost hope?

Yeahh, it is, and I'm aware of that; however, I'm sort of paranoid when Powell is at the helm

I will agree on that last line, though; I've stated it several times, and I cannot stress it enough how I'm keeping my hopes high, but my expectations low

 

I want it to be good with all of my heart, and I mean that. However, things are pointing to it not being good, so the odds are certainly stacked here

Sanctuary of fabulosity... damn. You folks have a way with words. I'm just not sure what to make of that.

 

Have I mentioned that this is hanging on my wall? Pretty sure I did recently, but not in this thread, which is as good a reason as I need to post it again.   Would this make my room a sanctuary of fabulosity, or do I need more Rarity before I can call it that? And if so, how much?

Well, I have hope for Inspiration Manifestation.

I haven't really thought any Rarity episode as bad. Even Look Before You Sleep I can say is an average episode (although it's on my top 3 for my least favorite episodes.)

(Although Simple Ways is still a better Rarijack episode)

Also, I read a great fanfic last night called "Buzzkill"

Rarity is told (by Rainbow Dash) that she's a "buzzkill," so Rarity tries to prove that she's fun. 

 

RD starts being a huge bitch again in the end, and gets mega-owned by Rarity. It was pretty fabulous

 

Anyway, RD was pretty nasty in this particular fanfic, so that was a bit problematic for me. But other than that, it was a great work and I'd recommend it to anyone when they have some time to kill
