I love to run. I've been running for about 3 years. I tried to run a Mini Marathon last year, but failed miserably. I had a sinus infection, and I didn't drink nearly enough water as I should have. If I had prepared better, I probably could've ran it without having to stop to walk.

I've almost been able to run a sub six mile, but not quite. I've been on a little bit of a running hiatus, I need to get back into it.

Running is one of those things in life that I felt was always going to have me beat. I've been a chubby overweight kid, and when you're a chubby overweight kid, running is not a fun thing, it's painful both physically and emotionally. But for the past two years I've been working out really hard to get into the army. What really helped me is stair climbing... with a 50 lbs back pack on. Doing that 3 days a week for a year made my legs so strong and gave me enough wind capacity that I was finally able to start running... and actually enjoying it.

I can now run as far as I like without stopping. I reguarly run three miles around the track, or I run home from work which is also 3 miles with lots of uphill. I'm still a good 200 lbs, but it sure feels good to be albe to outrun people that are thinner than me, its like a total reversal of gym class. I love the run home from work, I always feel winded, but it feels like an accomplishment, especially when I get to the top of the last hill.

If running up and down the stairs counts; then yes. I run all the time.

If it does not, then good for you guys! Running is great for your fitness, and you guys are doing marathons and stuff.

Can I make a request to one of you to run a marathon in a Rainbow Dash suit? That's be sweet.

ive actually thought about doing that, but I probably wont, due to breathability. I would, though, Put her cutie mark on a t-shirt and write on the back ,"this runner just got 20% cooler

I wouldn't exactly say I'm a fan of running, but I love walking. Walking to school or someones house, walking long distances, or even walking for the sake of walking. Great fun. Add some music like Avenged Sevenfold and you've got yourself a great day ahead of you... or is that just me? Too bad there are no other sixteen year olds that share my love for walking :/

Anyway, not exactly what this topic was about, but I guess it counts in a way. This way is more peaceful. :3

i used to run but then i got lazy. I remember i was running to some mayhem metal and whenever there was a brutal drop i would sprint like crazy. my neighbor pulled up and yelled out that i was running at 15 mph! I was proud of myself and was nick named the cheetah.

Nice! my team made fun of me because I would get lost in my thoughts during sa workout, and I would pick up the pace and stuff. they just asked,"what were you thinking about?"

From all sports I tried running was the first and is still my favourite, kinda :D.

I´ve been running since I began to work out at all,  about 16, and discovered immediately: I suck at sprinting, but I am good at long distances... I´ve been running many 10 and 20km-runs, not in competition, just for myself.´I would have started running Marathon before but over here you have to be 18 y.o. for the whole distance, meh.

The first Marathon was very, very bad... a time about 4 hours 11 minutes, I underestimated the distance by far...

About 2 months ago I did my 3rd Marathon (1 whole and 2 half-marathons in the meantime), a time of 3 hours 47, I am happy about that though I could have done better with more training...

A general rule for Marathon runners is in my opinion the spirit. That means you must have the strength, of course (derp), but even more important is to believe in yourself and just push yourself further than the limit, it really hurts, but it´s so worth it.

Finishing a Marathon, no matter what time, is one of the best experiences I ever had, honestly :D

You should try a nice 10k one day...it's like a physical and mental chess match..and don't do a marathon...you'll want to keep doing em :-)

Well, running with other people makes it a lot easier. Usually makes you able to run for longer too, unless the other people want to quit early.

Yeah, 5k's are really nice. My school goes to a free one once a year, and I like the feeling of running that distance, even though I suck at it.

yea, that's cool that your school goes to a 5k yearly! I wish my school would do something like that! you have to be on the XC team to do that!

Oh right, sorry. I meant that my XC team does that once a year, not the entire school. Whoops, my bad!

It's a good way to save some money though. And then there's the pasta lunch which is only 5 dollars for infinite foods with my XC friends and coaches. I'm easily the lightest person on my team, but I eat the most. Gotta make use of the money, heh.

Might have an obvious answer, but are pasta dinners/lunches normal for any running event?

hah I wish, over where I am, we don't do any type of dinner lunch things. my team and I would not be allowed though, because ehtere wouldn't be enough food

This is probably my new most favoritest thread ever in the history of forever. And ever. But I digress.

You say we can post times, right? Here's my XC and T&F times:

5,000m: 17:38

1,500m: 4:38

400m (4x400 relay): 56.30

Anyone here on the west side of the United States, or have a butt-load of money? If so, you should check out Steens Mountain Running Camp. It's a week-long camp in the Steens Mountain Range in southeast Oregon. World-champ trail runner Max King goes there every year. It isn't for the faint of heart, though: we had one kid in our tent last year almost die on the Gate Guess Gallop. He just collapsed and his body started shutting down.

But still, awesome camp.

My favorite running story is from Cross Countery training, although I never actually made Varsity. In high school, I was running with a group of friends up a mountain. 3 miles up, it starts raining so we turn around. It quickly turns into a very heavy thunderstorm and we are soaked. Despite being covered by water, I was thirsty because we had been running for a while. I remember pulling my shirt up and sucking the rainwater from it. My shoes felt terrible and my clothes were very uncomfortable but I'm actually pretty glad I had that experience.
