reddit cringe & bronies

In case you've never been on reddit's cringe section, it's pretty awesome in my personal opinion. For whatever reason, I love to cringe at just weird/interesting internet thingamabobs people gather from all over the internet.

But in cringe, there is a lot of videos of bronies. Some actually cringe worthy others just what people percieved as weird (I think some fella ordered a bunch of apple pies to build a castle with for his ponies, imo genius.) I mean, a lot of them didn't make me cringe, maybe it's because I'm used to people liking ponies, but some were severly embaressing to watch like presenting power points to classes all about ponies, or more awkward unnessisary displays of shoving mlp in people's faces. I mean fandom pride is great, but sometimes I feel like bronies take it to the level in which it makes people think all bronies are like that. What do you guy's think?

Also hello, mlpforums! Haven't been here for a bit! ; v ;

Well, there are some Bronies that unfortunately give us a bad rep. Honestly, there are some people who just take either their hate/love of Bronydom way too far. It works both ways, though.

Now, I'll admit that I did write an essay last year relating to MLP... but I study animation, so it's pretty relevant to my course. Also, my lecturer said that she absolutely loved it. In fact, she was the one who asked me to write about it in the first place, and actually asked if I could write an essay about it again this year, so I get away with it.

Yes.

Anyway, I kind of agree with what you're saying. As I mentioned before in another thread, people can take their fandom a bit too seriously, and MLP is no exception. I have nothing against people being open about it, in fact, I see no reason why it should be any other way, but there's a fine line between being open about it... and shoving it down everyone's throats. I don't really think that giving a presentation is doing that... but there's just so many of them now, that it does kinda makes me cringe a little.

Also hai.

ill agree with you, I facehoof sometimes when I go onto youtube videos and see those certain who shove it down others throats.

That's the main reason for haters, they get sick of that. and I cant blame them, my friend tried to shove homestuck down my throat, and I didn't like it. so it ruined the entire thing for me.

I will say, it is fun to go to omegle and ask Who is best pony and see the reactions! I did that last night with my friend

If someone can take a school assignment and make it about ponies while still staying on topic I am all for it I mean why not people have done the same thing with Star Wars and many other franchises. As for shoving it in peoples faces yes I think we can all agree that is not good, thankfully the people that do that are in the minority.

I like browsing through /cringe, and yes, there are a lot of brony videos in the subreddit.

Some totally deserve to be there... I just can't bear to watch anything by alternatekennesaw... my God....

I have to agree that yes, there are fandoms (not just bronies) that are taken a little too far. The whole doing powerpoints in class thing is a good example of this. I've seen several school projects where people pick their topics on an anime or a band or a sitcom or something like that. I just think that it can make some people uncomfortable because if you may not be familiar with what their talking about.

Unless it can be directly related to certain aspects of the show (like discussing animation or voice acting ect) I feel as though it's kind of excessive and you're just asking for attention honestly.

I'm also not saying that using a reference for a different perspective/comic relief or whatever is bad but doing a presentation in an economics class about the bits currency system in MLP is pushing it a little.

Ha! That's actually really awesome. I actually did a psychological analysis of King Candy from Wreck-It Ralph for my Abnormal Psyche final and man it was oodles of fun to write. Getting credit for writing about your fandoms is FUN.

Now, I can already imagine that feature being abused by anti-bronies.

And I actually think that if the power-point is relevant to an assignment, like if you're assigned to make one about a social group or something, it's ok.

I don't really think that giving a presentation is doing that

Okay, good. I have a folder on my desktop with a lot of bookmarks for sources including news articles, studies, and a few Reddit articles (the Reddit articles are mainly posts from haters to be used as evidence that they're, at times (more often than not to be clear), insane people. I have some really good ones, including one where a "game" was being developed that would delete the "player's" system32).

Is it bad that I have that I have a lot of articles for a presentation I might never do?

I think Bronies who are purposely and constantly shoving MLP down peoples throats who obviously share no interest in the show are one of the main reasons for haters actually, I've seen many a hater say thats their main reason for hating bronies, and it is justified to some of us, however the bronies who do this give the impression we're all like this.

However I don't want to complain and say haters are everywhere and really mean either, because that's actually been another complaint i've seen that bronies apparently "Cry about haters to much". I guess thats another big reason for haters.

I personally only went on reddit like for a few days, I really didn't like it much though. Its kinda a weird layout honestly anyways, theres some cool stuff on it I guess, but idk I just didn't care for it and got bored after a few days :P.

An adult who likes cartoons!  My there is more!   They make drawings of them called fanart!  Le Gasp!  Then

to add more to the shock,  they also write stories called fanfiction!  Oh no the hoorrooorrr the HOORROOORR!

Then they even dress up as a cannon from the show in real life ,  and make large events called Cons....

hell is coming!  To aid oil to the fire,  they make up their own ocs to be in the same setting of the show....

THE WORLD IS ENDING!

Ok,  there a lot of fandoms out there from Marvel comics and DC and anime/manga so big woop on

the whole "brony" deal.  I think ppl over think things waaaay to much these days....

grow up and fine a fandom and shut up......

Eh, theres alot of people who don't know about it, I mean I didn't know about it until after I watched the show for a while. However I do know there's a good chunk of people who hate it, some just hate the show, some hate bronies, some both. And some have watched the show and some haven't. I actually know some people IRL who don't seem very fond of the show atleast, they've talked about it mockingly a couple times i've overheard them. So I can't imagine they're all that fond of it, not sure if they totally hate it or what who knows.

But yeah theres plenty of people who have no idea about bronies. There would be alot more bronies and alot more haters if everyone knew what they where probably :P.

This thread appears to be related to the My Little Pony franchise and/or the Bronydom in general. Thus, it has been sentenced to Sugarcube Corner.

This is an automatically generated message, by the way.

EXACTLY. I have a friend and she would be a brony if her brother ( who is a brony himself ) wouldn't have over done it for her.

I KNOW. WHY. WHHHHHHHHHHHY. I felt the exact same way, oh my goodness. When people ask me if I'm a brony irl I always worry if they've seen clop art, or think I build apple pie castles for my toys because of something they've seen on the internet just. Augh.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with "clop" art. Pretty much every fandom ever has similar sort of art work, and it can actually be tasteful if done right. I actually find a lot of the over-the-top stuff hilarious. :P

I kinda get what you're saying though, if someone who hasn't been exposed to nerdery is introduced to any fandom that way... they might get the wrong idea.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Especially for someone who doesn't understand fandoms, or how extensive the brony fandom is they usually see it as weirdos into a child's cartoon when it's become so much more than that really.

But... we ARE weirdos who are into a child's cartoon... that's what makes it so wonderful!  :P

Anyway, if I'm introduced to any fandom in a negative way, I kind of automatically assume that it doesn't apply to the entire fandom, but I guess I have "experience" when it comes to fan culture.

  • 8 years later...

Most of the bronies that are in the cringe section of Reddit are in the minority yet people notice them because they're loud with their fandom. Some of them are normal people but haters consider them cringey just because they like a cartoon for little girls.
