Throwaway19573639385 764 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 So I decided not to go to school today as well as tomorrow. And this got me thinking "What does the MLPForums think about truancy?" So here I am! My reason for not going to school is to catch up with an ungodly amount of homework that might decide if I pass my final year or not, and for me that's more important than the classes I had today and I'm going to have tomorrow. However, sometimes I stay at home because I just don't feel like it and being 18 I can decide to stay away or not so that's really easy for me. I really dislike repititivity and it makes me really anxious, stressed and irritated. Sadly, my school is all about repititivity so sometimes it get too much to bear and I take a day off. So what do you guys think about truancy? Have you ever engaged in truancy? What about the consequences?
Stalliongrad 982 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 Ohhh a good one. I have engaged in Truancy later in High School. I personally think it is wrong but if you do it once fine. But what happened with me is it eventually formed into a habit that was hard to break later in life. When i first got to College it was easier to just not go to classes but the only person that is affected was me. I would skip class to go get something to eat mostly. I was lucky enough to have friends who would get extra worksheets and assignments and give them to me when i didn't go to school. Just try not to make it a habit. If you can catch up on the work you miss then you should be fine. 1 ~Signature Awesomely Made By Frozen Mint~ http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/crimson-star-r1439
Michael DeSanta 258 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 Oh dear truency is ridicolous in my oppinion. I mean if a kid misses a few days of school they are drawing up draconian laws that are costing tax payers hundreds of dollars in jailing a few teens who oversleep once or twice a month. I mean what gives i mean seriously its ridicoulous this crap when i had those charges in highschool they cost my parents nearly 2.5 grand in fines my bestfriend still owes dallas county 6000 in cash for truency fines. It is stupid these truency laws. I BUKING LOVE AMERICA AND POLTICS. some wise quotes "An armed society is a polite society." Scootalove 10,689 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 I don't really believe in truancy. Sure, I have missed some days of school due to being sick or just not wanting to go. Besides, doesn't matter to me in a school that I don't like. Just don't make it a habit, try to be careful. fluffpudge 148 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 Personally, I wish kids were able to take a few days off, free. At the very least, start school at a later time? I just- as a child myself, maybe I'm a bit biased here, but sometimes the amount of stress that builds just gets to be too much. I don't mind if people skip a few days to just take a breather and get caught back up- in the end, it's really only their fault if they miss out on assignments the days they're gone. I think that should be punishment enough for truancy. Betez 1,734 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 (edited) I've never skipped school just to stay home, at least not that I remember. I suck at faking being sick, so I've never been able to stay home unless I actually am sick. Personally, I'm against truancy. I know oh said you're doing it to catch up on homework, but when you miss days, more homework just accumulates in its place. Champion RD92 8,658 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 (edited) I don't really think skipping school is a good idea, especially since you might miss something important. Although if you know for a fact you're not gonna miss anything too important then I guess it's not that huge of a deal lol Edited March 4, 2013 by Champion RD92
MelancholicMemory 2,027 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 I've never missed school except for when I was sick, when my grandmother passed away, and the occasional mental health day. When I say "mental health day" though, I'm not just trying to make excuses for playing hooky. I don't handle stress very well, and I have some serious emotional issues, in addition to problems with depression, anxiety, and insomnia. I can only go on so long until I pretty much break down mentally, and sometimes when this happened I would not go to school just to keep my sanity. I really don't care if other people skip school, but I never bothered skipping myself.
Zygen 6,066 March 4, 2013 Share March 4, 2013 To be honestly really ever since I've started public school in 8th grade I haven't officially missed a day, and I certainly haven't skipped a day, i know thats not a long time considering I'm just now a freshman, but I never really consider it. I understand the importance of school and I actually like to learn to some extent(Although being tired is annoying. ) I still have no idea what I'm actually going to do with my life, so I figure that until I decide all information is going to be possibly important in some form. Therefore might as well learn it. Plus if I don't laze around now I'll have an easier time as a senior and with getting scholarships and graduating and such. I don't really have plans to intentionally miss school, I just don't like to have to catch up on stuff aswell as miss out on stuff, and I'm also a bit of a perfectionist in some forms as I always try and shoot for the highest on like the majority of my tests. I've even got an hundred or two on some tests. So yeah I'm a bit of a nerd. I probably won't be committing any truancy's really though. I'm to much of a nerd Xd. Throwaway19573639385 764 March 4, 2013 Author Share March 4, 2013 I've never skipped school just to stay home, at least not that I remember. I suck at faking being sick, so I've never been able to stay home unless I actually am sick. Personally, I'm against truancy. I know oh said you're doing it to catch up on homework, but when you miss days, more homework just accumulates in its place. True, however, there is a difference between homework that's going to get a note, homework that I'll actually need for a test or homework that has no use but to create repitition. I don't care what the teachers think, "forgetting" to make my homework and only getting a little note next to my name is simply not as important as homework that gets a score nor homework that will actually be useful. And I don't have any problems dealing with any amount of homework because I never ever lift a finger in class unless they poke me with pitchforks, so the homework, regardless of me being there or not, is still there and I always make it in my own time. To be honest I'm against truancy, the school is there, you should go to (unless you're ill for real). It's not just about homework or understanding the books, it's also about having a good habit and discipline. The only time I've stayed home is when I was so ill I had to vomit every 10-20 minutes or so (and had a hard time walking properly). Other than that I've never took a day off Well, I'm can work on things for hours, perhaps days even if I wouldn't get tired. I always try to make my work reflect the best of my abilities. Discipline isn't the right word though, the only thing, besides having to learn subjects I have no interest in, school learns you to be completely obedient when someone is in a "higher position" than you are, no matter how irrational. Besides that I'm polite and rational, something that school hasn't taught me. I'm open-minded, again something that school actually tries to prevent. So I'm not sure if I would agree on the habits or discipline, it's not something school teaches you, but your parents, 1 or 2 teachers and most importantly: yourself. That's how I see it. School is nothing but yet another unimportant stepping stone to make my hobby a profession, namely designing, programming and datamining (The Business Intelligence kind), while I can actually already do all these things I still have to get a darn certificate and diploma, as if simply 2 soulles objects make me more "proficient" in my expertise. Virulence 254 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 If you miss a few days it's fine, but more than that can cause problems. I did that on friday and I want to do it tomorrow but parents got mad. But in my total opinion, it's fine once or twice. Fhaolan 4,486 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 Coming from a guy who left school behind over twenty years ago, this may not be helpfull... You got two schools of thought (ha!). One is that as long as the work gets done, who cares *how* it get's done. This is sometimes known as the 'big picture' mindset, and a lot of people subscribe to it, including many successful people. The other is that you need to set habits that will continue in later life. This is sometimes known as the 'devil in the details' mindset, and a lot of people subscribe to it, including many successful people. I don't think it's that cut and dried. Which really works for you depends on how your mind works and the subject matter being taught. I, for example, went to school in a different age. It was possible to work ahead and get stuff done long before it was due; to the point that I actually had teachers telling me to go home because I had already turned in my termwork and proved my subject knowledge, and my boredom was becoming so evident that it was disrupting the rest of the class. While in other classes I had to be there every day because those particular subjects I had trouble wrapping my mind around and needed the teacher's help to keep pace. So I can't give you a yes/no answer on this. Too many variables, and I don't know you or the subjects you're being taught to be able to guess. All I can do is say that there's no fixed answer, and it's a bit unfair to expect one.
Espy Vibe 4,567 September 20, 2023 Share September 20, 2023 There's a WORD for skipping school??? NOBODY TOLD ME??? I did it a few times my senior year of high school. Just... didn't have the energy or motivation at the time. It's in contrary to previous years where I was able to attend school every day other than the occasional days where I got sick. I got dropped off by a family member so skipping school wasn't really an option. Not only that as I mentioned in another thread we had cops around the school. So skipping class is definitely not something you'd wanna get caught doing lol * But Also Still Clawdeen's Signature * Cult Classic But I Still Pop *

TBD 17,262 September 24, 2023 Share September 24, 2023 I hated school- unfortunately my school was kinda located nowhere so even if I wanted to play hooky, there isn’t much to go around by. So I just have to stay in school. However I didn’t bother paying anything to classes and just draw most of the time. My High school have a work program where we are expected to work at a job place once a week, I skipped two work days just to get around downtown. Unfortunately the second time I got found out and got suspended. Overall I don’t really have motivation to attend classes even in college. It will take a lot effort for me to stay motivated in school- so it’s no wonder my teachers had a hard time with me. ♪ "I practice every day to find some clever lines to say, to make the meaning come through"♪
