Sir.Flutter Hooves 2,953 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 I love the nice people, and I wouldn't give them up for the world! I also love the hot girls, and I sure as Celestia like them! Metemponychosis 1,262 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 At the risk of sounding like a raging zealot, if given the chance, I'd be in Equestria faster than you can say "Luna". I get the feeling that Equestria is a better place to live than our world. A big part of that is because of the ponies. Just as there are good people here, there are some bad ponies in Equestria, but we don't see murder, robbing, etc... in Equestria as much as we see around here. Sure it can be argued that this is because of the target demographics of the show, but it doesn't matter. Equestria is as Equestria is shown. As far as my interpretation goes, that is because of their leadership and because the ponies are just more inclined to do good than they are to do evil and humans are more inclined to think of themselves first and fuck everyone else if there is not enough to share. Ponies are more human than humans. 2 https://www.fimfiction.net/user/32864/Metemponychosis For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out. Shawn Parks 1,798 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 It is difficult for me to think about "people" in general without focusing on the worst things that they do. A few ponies being somewhat mean is nothing compared to the horrors that human beings are known to perpetrate.

Me thinks you're forgetting about the jerks who treated Fluttershy like crap in the "putting your hoof down" episode, as well as Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. Saying ponies only have positive human qualities is simply not true. Bullies aren't as bad as murderers and rapists, but still. Where did this viewpoint of ponies being all super nice and stuff come from? I don't think I've ever gotten that impression from the show, if anything, I think they've been shown to act like real people, which I like. ~Master~ Button Mash 2,307 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 (edited) About even. I don't innately like either, really. I only like people I let into my sphere, be they friends, family, acquaintances, etc. But they need to prove themselves worthy of being liked and trusted. Same goes for ponies, though admittedly I might be a little more lenient. But still, I'd mostly judge individuals. After all, there's still plenty of asshole ponies out there. Like Silver Spoon, Diamond Tiara, and a bunch of the vendors at the farmer's market. If we're talking about the Mane 6, the CMC, the Princesses, or a few BG ponies, then I'd say "yes," because I've already let them into my sphere. Zygen 6,066 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 Well it kinda depends. I mean ponies are much nicer and overall seem more caring in the show, however if we're talking simply about the ponies in the episodes scripted however that's a bit different. Humans can be overall more interesting, but if the FIM ponies where real they overall as a whole do seem kinder. However there are plenty of good caring people who can rival ponies in the level of caring for sure, a lot of them here for sure. So humans do have the potential to exceed ponies in kindness and the fact that they're real and all that. Ponies as a whole are much nicer though. It's just they're not real. They can't love you back, humans are capable of loving back however. Not that they always do, but still. I don't really have any IRL friends who can exceed pony kindness, so I'm tempted to say ponies, but I know there's people good like ponies who can love me back. The one thing ponies seem to have over humans entirely though is adorableness sorry but they beat basically all humans in adorableness. Since it depends I just put about even. Starlight Sky 374 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 Every world has the potential for great kindness and cruelty. Even though Equestria closer represents an idealized unity among citizens, it is their choice to maintain that harmony. Just like this world, the inhabitants must bring about the change they seek. That being said, nothing pulls me more in one direction than the other. My bonds in this world are evident, but lack depth to me. I have good family and friends, but if I'd be fine never seeing them again. As bad as that may sound, I'm at peace anywhere. I'd certainly enjoy forging a meaningful bond (maybe with somepony here), but until then, the only real factor keeping me is technology. I love gleaning into new worlds, appreciating new possible outcomes, and empathizing with characters in shows. Everypony has different experiences and values which make them unique. It's perfectly understandable to choose ponies over humans if they bring you greater joy. The only point in life is to be happy. Just because people have potential to be great, doesn't mean you have to rely on them. The title "parent" or "sibling" doesn't warrant automatic affection either- personal experience dictates such feelings. Also, the premise of traveling to Equestria means the ponies are living creatures that you can interact with as any other human here. Therefore, nopony should argue that mlp characters would be static molds that become monotonous in "10 SECONDS FLAT". Furthermore, this is a fantasy question. Stressing the point that the characters are fictional is not only invalid for aforementioned reasons, but essentially rejects the question.

People are saying such things because that's the question asked. If you state that they would be actual sapient beings that changes the dynamic. Ponies are scripted to be nice, so they are nice. If you take away that structure then they would be much more like humans (with all the flaws and perks that come with it).

I would assume that in Equestira, what with magic and all, there is probably a way for life to continue even with perpetual night. I do not believe that any character that world is capable of human-level evil. That is the conclusion I draw based on the evidence I have seen. It seems as if some people here are trying to argue that others are "wrong." I do not see this as a question that has a correct answer. It is all completely subjective. Why can't people just state their own view and be left alone? Edited March 24, 2013 by Shawn Parks

You make it seem like the question restricts real interaction with these ponies. If so, this questions is horribly misleading. Asking whether one prefer's ponies to people would reasonably imply you can spend time with them. Thus, opening their character to change through your interactions. Also, the first sentence in my previous quote recognizes potential for "good or evil" anywhere; however, the environment has drastically lowered their inclination for cruelty. Their behavior wouldn't be carved in stone(or "scripted", as you said), but quite unlikely to change so easily. Scootalove 10,689 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 In my opinion, yes. It depends on what people you meet, because there will come a time when you meet mean and despicable people while others meet generous and nice people. Ponies always put a smile on my face, just like how friends and family do. Basically, the difference between ponies and people have a huge gap. The forums and Skype make up most of my internet life basically. 1 Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules

Jalaton 155 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 Honestly no, I've just never seen ponies as that much different from people. They have personalities like people and flaws like people so I feel like they'd be capable of doing anything a person could. I've seen enough ponies that act like jerks to know that they can be jerks too. I mean Canterlot seems to have a fair amount of stuck up elitists. Hmm, thinking on it maybe my vote should have been 'about even', oh well. 1 Legless

I am just giving Nightmare Moon the benefit of the doubt here. Since there is magic, and nature works much differently in that world, I am assuming that perpetual night would not destroy all life. It is my belief that Nightmare Moon is not capable of that level of evil. I do not believe that it exists in that world. We are both making assumptions, which we have to do to even attempt to answer the question. It is all subjective. There are no "right" or "wrong" answers. I am not going to discuss this as if it is possible to be correct. I am just stating my opinions and beliefs. I know the horrors that can be perpetrated by human beings. I just do not know what percentage of the general population is capable of horrifyingly evil actions. If I could ever know that information, I might be able to find some comfort in the human world. As for the pony world, I believe that 0% are capable of true evil. Believing that, I could live in their world and be at peace.

Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,632 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 By a landslide, ponies. I have almost no social life. I have constant social anxiety and the internet (more specifically this forum) is the only place that I really talk with anyone. I am autistic (As I have said in the past) so my social skills are almost completely non-existent. People scare me really. I am always afraid of being judged or looked at as inferior by others. Ponies make me feel happy to be who I am. They help me accept myself with my many flaws. They make me smile and bring me out of my depressing moods (As well as my friends that I have here ) Perhaps you may think that these feelings of mine towards other people are unjustified but my mind does not work like 'normal' people' Because of that, I like ponies more. They will not judge me for my problems, they will help me accept myself and those problems. (When I talk about people here, I mean the general population)
TheSupremeLeaderOfChaos 1,206 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 It depends on the people we're talking about. Some people are just cruel, mean, angry people at heart, and those are the kind of people I wouldn't mind leaving to be with ponies. I just don't like them. But then there are my best friends, who are just plain awesome, kind people, who care about me. And my family, which isn't perfect by any means, but still try their best to love and care for me, would be hard to leave for ponies. These people are who make my world go round, and I don't know what I would do if I had to leave them forever. In all, I love ponies more than those cruel people, but I couldn't place them above my friends. 1 Signature made by- Kyoshi Make sense? Oh, what fun is there in making sense? -Discord I'm So Excited! Pony Of The Month 534 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 I was about to say yes, but than I realized that if I were to meet a pony in real life, I'd have just as hard a time of communicating with them as I do with people. I can't say that I like ponies more than people, but I would rather live in Equestria than where I live. And The Pony Of The Month Is: Princess Celestia! Shawn Parks 1,798 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 It fascinates me when one person can say that they love "people" in general - and they can talk about all of the positive aspects of humanity without considering the truly horrific side. I sometimes wish that I could do that. I just cannot think about a group of people without wondering how many of them are capable if actions I do not even want to imagine. Metemponychosis 1,262 March 24, 2013 Share March 24, 2013 (edited) Nightmare Moon, Sombra, etc... Are very specific. It's never been said that Equestria is an utopia. It's not: there are bad ponies and villains. But it's the way the ponies deal with these situations that makes them "better" than humans. The name of the show is "Friendship is Magic" for Celestia's sake. It doesn't matter that they are "scripted" to be nice. They are as they are shown: we are interpreting information the show gives us. The very hated episode, Over a Barrel, shows that they don't need to kill each other over generations because of land/resources. They can work a way to solve the problem and let friendship flourish. Another good example is the Hearth's Warming Eve episode. Another thing I'd like to point out is their leaders, the Princesses. Look at the last episode: for all the controversy about Twilicorn, it can be said that their leaders are supposed to understand both friendship, which is the driving force of the most powerful magic they know, the Elements of Harmony, and magic itself. Humans couldn't compete with that if the ponies were real. Unless you are biased because you love someone or have a really good experience, socially. But again, this is specific, like the problem with the villains. EDIT: saying that ponies don't exist is dodging the question. It's like a straw man argument in this context.
