music Am I the only brony that prefers to listen to 80s music more than today's music?

I'm with ya bro! Not completely as I do enjoy music OTHER than the 80's such as the 90's and early 2000.

If your a big fan of the 80's though, you should see regular show, it has a whole bunch of 80's music, references, and similarities to it!

I've might of heard New Kids of the Block from that show, but it didn't make me hear about Loverboy.

Trust me, 5 years before, I was listening to Loverboy's "Lovin' Every Minute of It". Then, I listened to Turn Me Loose.

This is one of my favorite songs. Its pretty good, especially with Celtic instruments, since Big Country came from Scotland.

Had to do it because on YouTube, the "official" music video isn't official nor is it banned. The official one is on Dailymotion for some reason. Copyright activists...

I don't listen to 80s music, but I think today's pop and rap music really sucks. I love today's rock music though, my top ten albums have all been released within the last 13 years.

Nope, haven't heard of Black Flag. I haven't listened to Joy Division but I have heard of it. Too bad Ian Curtis shot himself when he was young (23 years old).

I'm probably guessing the reformed band was named "New Order", because it was reformed and they were moving onto new genres like New Wave and such.

You can't forget Aimee Mann of Til Tuesday's haircut in 1985, when their debut album was released. My god...

Also, stop rejecting my post, 100 character limit.

Ian hung himself, actually. Black Flag are one of thee greatest punk bands ever and I only like Celtic Frost's cover of Mexican Radio.

I always prefer the original version of a song. I don't usually like covers, but there are times where the cover is better than the original. Mexican Radio is a very weird song, because its mixing up two genres that don't seem to match. New Wave and "spaghetti western" music.

Man, then it gets catchy for some reason once you get used to it.

I listened to the original once, I thought it was weird. I think I'll stick with Celtic Frost's thrashy/doomy/Gothic metal cover.

I do like Queen, but however it seems like that I listen to other bands more than Queen. Maybe its just because that Queen has started to become more mainstream. I'll take a listen once in a while or while in the car.

I don't mind old bands, in fact, I like a lot of dadrock and 60s to 90s bands.

However, I don't like the people who go around thinking they're superior or better because they listen to older music. That kind of people who say 'LOL I WAS BORN IN THE WRONG GENERATION!' and 'I'M 13 AND SORRY 4 WHAT MY GEN DID TO MUSIC'

I just hate that kind of obnoxious people.

I hate Poison but I think Venom is pretty cool lol. I was watching a documentary once, and it said that people thought Venom's music was scary back in the 80's lol.

I'm not a fan of stereotypical 80's music, but I like a lot of what that decade had to offer. Some hair metal is okay, but my favorite 80's music is really just from 60's and 70's bands that carried over.

       The amount of "Am I the only one who..." topics is too damn high!

On a serious note, no you're not the only one. You knew well you are not the only one. You knew it's not weird. You knew people will come and consolidate you and give you a pat on the back.

That's it for the rant.

About the music tho, one thing to consider is the fact that dubstep and many other modern genres are simpler (and do not mistake it for easy, just simpler) to do if you are just one person, which is the case with many of the brony artists.

80s music is so much better than today's music, it's kinda sad, really. Kids today will never know how awesome music can sound, if they stick to the modern hits stations, which play the worst of the worst anyway. You're definitely not alone, and you're in good company.

Exactly, some people act like rap, pop and dubstep are the only genres being made today.

Oh come on now, there was crap on the radio back in the 80's too. Most of the good music from the 80's wasn't even on the radio back then.

"Take on Me" by a-ha seems like A-ha's biggest hits but there are better songs by a-ha but aren't chart toppers.

I know there was one crappy song. Anyone ever heard "Valley Girl" by Frank Zappa? Sounded like a spoiled girl was singing it. I wonder if Frank Zappa was rolling in his grave right now.

Well, it seems like that rap, pop and dubstep are playing on most radios and on the Internet, so I guess that's where it comes from. I know there are other genres but isn't played or mentioned a lot on the Internet or the radio, so some people make that assumption.

I might of knew I wasn't the only one but since I haven't seen a single brony mentioning anything about liking 80s music, I might of well thought that in a minority of bronies listening to 80s music. I just didn't expect to get a lot of replies.

I wonder if its simple to be a one artist, playing all the instruments at different times and just syncing them. Maybe its not simple, its probably expensive anyway.

Because it's the only music that anyone ever hears of, if you ask me there should be a radio station that plays unpopular genres and underground artists/bands for the people who wanna hear more, but I think that most of the radio stations don't really care at all since they'll just tell the people like us to do what we always do and go find it ourselves, it's like as if the Radio Stations are being lazy as hell right now.

Heh I actually go EARLIER than that.  I listen to 1970s music for the most part although I will say 1982 was a good year.  Really I think the 70s began for the most part in 1973 and ended in 1982.  Early 70s music tracks a bit more with the late 1960s and the early 1960s tracks better with the late 50s...

1957->1964

1965->1972

1973->1982

That is about where I would place the "decades"

I have a weakness to cheesy 80s music even though I'm only 20 because I grew up on second hand VHS tapes from the pawnshop. The Damn Yankees self-titled album is one of my guilty pleasures, along with some Strypr, and a lot of the "inspirational" rock anthems like the stuff on the Karate Kid soundtrack.

90% of the modern music I listen to is Country, because that's about the only mainstream genre to retain itself and not full fall to crappy trends(some of the crappy crossover acts non-withstanding).

Of course I hate heavily electronic bass based music like what's hot right now, so I have a bias. Most of it just sounds like a music editing program having a seizure.

There's boatloads of non pop,rap or dubstep music on the internet. There's plenty of stuff on sites like Pandora and Last.fm.

And about "no bronies mentioning that they like 80's music", if you go on Crispy's metal thread you'll find plenty of songs from the 80's.

That's because they are being lazy ass hell. Do you really think they care about what you like? Do you really think the DJs are doing they're jobs because they like it?

Not at all. The 80s were a great time for metal and rock. However, there is still plenty of great metal being made today. Good music doesn't necessarily have and age limit, but unfortunately it's getting harder to find today.

Actually. Its more like because rap, dubstep and pop are the mostly mentioned music in this decade. There's plenty of radio stations that play other music, its just that not a lot of people mention it. Also, YouTube seems to be the one controlling the music, as music videos and music is being uploaded to that website every day.

So as Spotify.

 This is one thing i have to say I love about the fandom in general. If one were to simply look at the music made into pmv's or artists you'll find the fandom has interesting flavor or mix of musical taste.  Then you watch the AMV side of things and it's different as a whole as well.

There's music out there coming out to this very day, you just have to search harder for it. The diamonds in the rough do exist, I can guarantee you that. Most of the music I listen to is from the late 80's to the current day. American music has declined a bit yes, but there's so much more out there than that.
