Because its much easier to do than having to get off your ass, run to the store, find the card, deal with people, go back home, enter it, and then enjoy something you could have had 30 to an hour ago much easier.

There's already a leaked copy online. I doubt they would get into any more trouble if the build they have now somehow finds it's way to some torrent sites.

@, Honestly, they don't make money off of so many things directly. But getting people excited over the toys does give them indirect income and more importantly, free advertising. As long as the brony phenomenon stays strong, there really isn't much in a need to shut it down. 

 

Consider it this way, with the strength of the fandom, chances are people will get Hasbro official stuff as long as the fandom perpetuates it. It's in their best interest to leave it be. And considering they don't crack down as much as they can, it comes to show that they are making a fair buck off of us in some way.

Hopefully this case will end like the one King's Quest fan game did, in the sense that the trademark holder changed their mind and allowed the game to be released in the end.
