<.< Tell your parents that it is exactly the opposite of being protective by having you use only IE. Firefox is well known for being much better for protection and Chrome even has a Malware popup so if you are about to go into a site that has a virus on it's page it'll tell you that so you can back out before going in. (Though sometimes it's just a warning, I have never gotten a virus from Deviantart lol)

 

Basically, having you only use IE is a bit of a mistake on their part if they are trying to be protective.

That's dangerous. If you don't download a proper antivirus and it's updates you put your computer at risk. And also, certain sites stop working if you don't have an updated version of Java or Adobe.

I've never used Norton so I don't know for sure whether that's good or not but I can say this: If you don't download updates, it becomes obsolete and your computer becomes susceptible to viruses because they constantly become stronger and are able to work around old antivirus programs.

AVG is best pony anti-virus.

 

I had a similar situation with my parents back when I was about 10, when I was starting to first get into the whole internet thing. I just did whatever I wanted and they never found out about it. Chances are they're afraid of what will happen if anything does anything, if they're not very technically knowledged (like my parents) then they won't even know what you've done.

 

Edit: Not that I'm promoting being a rebel or anything. You should always listen to your parents and respect your elders ¬.¬
