You overstep them quite a lot. Lighthearted I can get. I can partake in that. When I came back from my hiatus, this thread was neither of those above. Neither serious nor lighthearted. Just repetitive content. It was a spamfest, clean and simple. Of course I made a racket out of it.

I seriously don't. But it's honestly bad to stay in that past. Things change. You don't see any other person getting themselves worked up over that.

Well, I misread when you used the past tense, but you misunderstand me when you say I think things are now better.

 

Libby, I honestly have NO. IDEA. WHATSOEVER. I've only been here for two months and a half. Meaning, I have no proof or being a "witness" to either evolution or devolution of the thread. And since I don't know, I can't say anything. I may have misread you using past tense, but I never implied that the current thread is "better" than before. Besides, this is the GCT, and I have participated quite a lot ever since September. Then ONLY things that actually annoyed me, were when one guy tried to RP as a...joking Ronald Reagan, or something like that? I have no idea, and the Head H thing that KKR does from time to time. That's it. And that's because they were getting annoying, TO ME. I don't know about everyone else, but they seemed to agree. I honestly don't care if this thread has gone for the "worse" or for the "better", one, because I don't know what is worse or what is better, two, because I haven't SEEN worse, and three, because right now, I'm chatting with people, and that's all I honestly should care about.

 

I am not saying every change is good either. Look at my country. It's going to HELL. Especially on the economy, and especially since the Kirchners (right now, Cristina Kirchner, before, her passed away husband, Nestor Kirchner), have gotten hold of the power. So that change, was NOT good. And there are many, many others. I say it's worse, because that's how I look at it from afar, but I'd be lying if I said I ahve proof or knowledge of politics, so I stay away from them.

 

And if you want this to become less spammy, why don't you tell me what is YOUR impression of spam? I'd like to know that, because honestly, I haven't seen you mention YOUR version of spam once.

Indeed, and roleplaying, image macros, repetitive content for it's own sake, random comments declaring this or that with no intention engaging any sort of rational discussion are spam.

Spam is bad if there is to be any sort of chatting in the first place.

These examples prevent chatting from happening if left unchecked, which they were.

All you would see is pages and pages of mindless content with no relevance to any other subject mentioned.

 

Initiate a discussion or partake in it.

Anything else is spam, some of it harmless, some of it not. All equally damaging in the long run.

Standards are important for any medium for it to have worth.

 

In short;

Intention to have an discussion is content.

No intention to have a discussion is spam.

 

Of course, certain discussions are simply worth not having at all but that is more of an personal issue of taste and I can easily ignore without any raised hells.

I haven't seen you mention YOUR version of spam once.

Only stupid or messed-up people would try to recreate violent scenes. If they're imitating them, like, pretending, I don't care, but if they're actually gonna try to recreate or mimic a violent scene completely, then it becomes a no-no.

I think the whole thing is a personal issue of taste, because some people actually enjoy that type of random discussion and don't see it as spam.

 

I don't, personally (although I'll post a silly image every now and then because I and some others find it funny, but it usually has something to do with the topic at hand... I don't just errantly post them).

I've played Gears since I was little. Don't remember the exact age that I started, but I know it was waay to young to actually be playing M rated games, let alone that specific series. You don't see me rolling around the streets in some giant armor with a shot gun blowing everyone to bits and curbstomping everything. It takes the people who are already messed up in the head to do that shit. Not someone perfectly fine.

Exactly. If somebody is messed up in the head enough to do something violent, the fact the video game influenced them to do it is just coincidence. If they didn't get the idea from a game, then they would have gotten the idea from the news, or from a book, or from their own imagination.

Keyword, forum.

If this was a IM system of some sort, I would not be here.

In all honesty, that kind of random discussion is best to left to something that better supports short random blathering about this and that.

 

Posting on a forum should require a minimum of intent of having a discussion in some semblance of rationale.

Whether the topic needs to be rational, that is an entirely different matter.

Somehow this thread has managed to become a double standard, anything goes.

When the rest of the forum has to follow a very simple guideline in their content even for Cloudsdale: stay on-topic.

Here, the topic could be changing and be multilateral, instead it's constant off-topic.

 

Lot of these "shitposters", to borrow from a friend, would be much happier in such IM environment anyway as far as I gather.

Steam group has a chatroom, I cannot see why those wishing for a more organized, thought-out conversation need to suffer this phenomena of shitposting.
