Zerobot 179 April 7, 2013 Share April 7, 2013 Which episodes, in your opinion, best represents each of the mane six? As in, if you could show someone only one episode to explain that character, which would it be? The episode doesn't have to focus on them specifically, you don't even have to like the episode. Mine are in that spoiler. Wow there are a lot of words here. Would you do me a favor and post your opinion before reading mine? I'd really like to hear more opinions on this, which is why I made this topic in the first place. Applejack: Apple Family Reunion Starting with the one I will do the worst on so that the rest look better by comparison. Applejack has never really been high on my list of favorites, and part of it is she gets very few episodes. I thought Apple Family Reunion was an ok-ish episode, but I have to admit it summarizes a lot of things both good and bad about Applejack. She's a hard worker, and is very family oriented. She can also be a bit headstrong and stubborn, but ultimately can admit when she's wrong and work hard to fix things. Oh, and apples. Rainbow Dash: Wonderbolt Academy This episode does a great job of emphasizing why Rainbow Dash ISN'T just some cookie cutter tomboy-athlete-2-cool-4-skool. Or at least, not so much any more. Rainbow has probably progressed the most over the seasons, and what better way to reflect on that by introducing a character similar to original Dash? Also, the scene where Twilight and co. are spiraling to their doom reminded me of the Community episode Remedial Chaos Theory, in the timeline where the evil troll doll is standing a midst the fire and pain and Troy screams. Uh oh Rainbow Dash! Lightning Dust's tornado seems to be knocking the other ponies around! OH NO RAINBOW DASH! Suddenly all of your friends have shown up and are about to fall to their squishy, marshmallowy deaths! I should really just move on now. Pinkie Pie: A Friend in Deed I'm not sure there are any episodes that rival this one when considering character representation. We get a flash mob parade song montage of Pinkie singing about how making other's smile is her one true goal in life. Then we get the anti-Pinkie, a cranky donkey. I honestly thought the episode was going to end like that old episode of Recess, and Pinkie would just have to realize not every living creature will like her. Instead, she uses her strangely amazing memory and ability to grow more hooves to bring back Cranky's long lost love. And she pulls a felt check mark literally out of her imagination. That just about cover's Pinkie Pie in 22 minutes. Except for the Pinkamina side, but eeeey I'm a jellyfish I do what I want. Twilight: It's About Time This episode has got ...well, in my opinion, everything that there is to a Twilight. Her OCD tendencies, her organizational skills, her studious nature, and her incredible magical abilities. Oh, and Pinkie's in it. Pinkie is a great counter to Twilight. I feel a bit silly having this one so short compared to the first two, but I'm still a jellyfish. Fluttershy: Dragonshy Oh snap, guess I'm not going for the brohoof bonus. I doubt I can brohoof myself anyway. This episode shows that she isn't called Fluttershy because she fist fights zombies. Nope, it's because she is shy - and scared. Mostly of scary things though, like dragons. I would be mad at her for being such a hindrance on the entire trek up the mountain, but it's not like she wanted to come in the first place. She tried getting Twilight to let her not go, but Twi wouldn't hear it. It's a good thing Twilight turned out to be right about Fluttershy being incredibly motherly and badass when the situation calls for it. Would've been a really anti climactic episode otherwise. I don't even know why the writers would write an episode like that. That would just be silly. Rarity: Suited for Success One of my favorite episodes of season 1 - neigh, favorite episodes of the series. I find Rarity's career the most interesting of the mane six. This episode shows that while yes, she IS still a drama queen and can get her whine on when need be, she's actually a very hardworking businesspony who struggles with becoming a famous fashion designer and creating things her friends will approve of. The whole episode is great, and relatable to many people I'm sure. It should also be obvious why I think this episode represents Rarity the best. It is the first episode that portrays Rarity in a much more positive light, and gives her more qualities than snootiness. It showcases her great qualities, and some of her not so great qualities. Yet in this episode, even those seemed much more likable than before. Spike: Lesson Zero Throwing Spike in here too because jellyfish. The fact that I'm picking Lesson Zero should also show why I dislike Spike episodes: They tend to represent him poorly. In this episode, he's level headed and is always there for Twilight. He pulls her back from the brink of insanity a couple times, but alas it was no use. Because Twilight can be crazy. I didn't see the ending coming, at least not the part where it was Spike who sought help from Celestia. Twilight is like - actually, no, she IS a mother to Spike. She hatched open his egg, and as far as we know she took care of him since. That or Celestia raised him a bit then let Twilight have him. Details, details. Twilight is the most important character in Spike's life, so her going as crazy as she did in that episode could likely have been a bit on the very scary side for Spike. But instead of panicking, he was still able to help Twilight. He even got some good fourth wall jokes in that episode. Spike is best pony. Well ok maybe not best, but he's up there. Somewhere right above Applejoh Bonus Brohoof Challenge: No season 1 episodes. Or, if you have a season 1 episode, provide a non-season-1 alternative. I unnoh, I think it's a good challenge. The purpose of a pilot/first season is pretty much to introduce the characters and the world they live in. This is my first topic, yay! I did a few searches to make sure there isn't already one like this, but the closest I could find was one about Favorite Episode of Each of the Mane Six. 3 "Hi I'm hipster superman, you probably haven't heard of me I'm pretty obscure." The center picture is hipster superman. The other four pictures are my favorite webtoon, anime, band, and comic. They're pretty obscure. They might actually not be but I've never met anyone who's heard of them.
Righteous Fury 344 April 7, 2013 Share April 7, 2013 Applebuck Season Putting Your Hoof Down Sweet and Elite A Friend In Deed Read It and Weep Boast Busters are the first that come to mind, those episodes showcased each of their personalities without really changing them or making them crazy
Best Pony 83 April 7, 2013 Share April 7, 2013 I think the Cutie Mark Chronicles represents each character well but as its only a single episode muffins. It's really subjective how you want to classify each episode. I tend not to think about episodes in terms of characters but more in terms of the storyline. Just for Sidekicks is a Spike episode well because it shows his flaws well. But it has no muffins. Dragonshy is a Fluttershy episode. You see Fluttershy trying to be kind to one of the most feared monsters. But it has no muffins. Magical Mystery Cure really tied up the developments for Twilight Sparkle. It was really great to see the storyline move forward and become more dynamic which I like in my opinion. Again, no muffins. Ineedtowritemorebutmycomputerwantstoshutdown. Sugar Cube 4,843 April 7, 2013 Share April 7, 2013 (edited) Twilight Sparkle - Magic Duel. Not only does the episode focus on Twilight's magic, but it displays Twilight's great intelligence as well. She's 100% lovable and it's a great storyline for her. We see that while she is adept at magic, she does have limits. She was quick to forgive Trixie, and that's admirable. Pinkie Pie - A Friend in Deed. While I like Pinkie's crazier episodes better for entertainment, this episode, and even the Smile song itself really explain what Pinkie Pie is all about. This episode gave me some newly found appreciation for a character that I used to look at as just a comedy act. This was Pinkie at her absolute best. Rainbow Dash - Wonderbolts Academy. Not only does it showcase Rainbow's dream of becoming a Wonderbolt which is a huge part of her character, but it takes all of her most positive traits, especially her loyalty, and puts them all together to show just why Rainbow is so likable. This is the episode that shows the most growth in Rainbow Dash's character. All of the lessons she learned in previous episodes are in full force here. Fluttershy - Hurricane Fluttershy. We see the shy, weak, and self-conscious side of Fluttershy at the beginning, but by the end we see a Fluttershy that is strong, dependable, and willing to do her best to help her friends. It's by far the most emotional of Fluttershy's episodes, and I think that's something to look for in her episodes. Rarity - Suited For Success. This episode remains the one episode where the beauty of Rarity's character shines from beginning to end. She goes to great lengths to please her friends, and she's quick to forgive them when they turn her into a laughing stock, proving she is the generous pony with a beautiful heart. Applejack - Apple Family Reunion. In this episode we really get to go deeper into Applejack's character. There's a lot of subtlety, and probably a lot of headcanon involved, but AJ proves how hard a worker she is and how determined she is to put together the best reunion possible. She's not just a workaholic, but a perfectionist. Applejack's faults as well as her strength as a leader are in full force, and we get a lot of emotion from Applejack after she feels deep responsibility and guilt for ruining the reunion. Plus, it's a family centered episode, and only Applejack can really deliver those. Edited April 7, 2013 by Sugar Cube
Shanks 10,817 May 17, 2015 Share May 17, 2015 Applejack- Apple Family Reunion. It is my favorite Applejack episode for a reason and it is that it really brings out the best in AJ. We see Applejack not only as the hard working and slightly stubborn far mare but also as the still grieving child of long dead parents though signs which albeit are subtle are there though there is also the obvious one of her trying just a tad too hard as well. And we got to see Applejack's family compliment here like a good apple cider. Twilight Sparkle- I am a bit unsure on her but I know a certain episode involving supposed magical cures that dosen't represent her very well though I suppose that is not what this topic is about. I am tempted to say Lesson Zero but we only really see a part of her character in that episode, granted a very important one but one that dosen't show up very much anymore at least not to the extent as was in that episode. Rainbow Dash- Wonderbolt Academy. She was reckless and a bit desperate to prove herself at first but we also got to see her mature and realize that her dream was not worth sacrificing her own principles for. Pinkie Pie- Maud Pie. Pinkie Pie was her usual jovial self but though her awesome sister Maud was very different from her she was able to understand her and showed a strong love and acceptance for her. Rarity- Suited for Success. It showed a bit of drama queen side though not much of her vain and shallow side but we see enough of those anyway. It also showcased her creative and generous sides and her desire to please her clients or in this case her friends who she has offered to make dresses for for free. Fluttershy- Bats. We know Fluttershy as the quiet, shy one and she still was here but not so much to where she was a pushover. She politely though firmly made her case for why the Bats shouldn't be harmed and that perhaps their presence might actually benefit Applejack. 1 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
