movies/tv What is the first Anime you ever watched?

I know there is already at least one general Anime thread, but I didn't see one for people's very FIRST Anime.

I remember when I finally turned eighteen and could watch whatever I wanted. I knew a few of my friends were into Anime, but I hadn't been able to watch any before of my parents. Then I saw a DVD of Wolf's Rain at my friend's house, and asked about it. It sounded interesting enough, so I decided to borrow it. However, there were only the first 5 or so episodes included, since she only had the first disc. But I was hooked, and thankfully at that time YouTube had all the episodes up, so I got to finish it there.

So I could count that as my first Anime, since it's the first one that I sat down and enjoyed and also finished.

However, I recently remembered a video I had watched as a kid. Oddly, it was after watching the Nostalgia Critic's review of Felix the Cat - The Movie, because I remember when my family and I moved from Idaho we gave away some stuff and that movie was one of the, along with some other cartoon that had 'Gigi' in the title.

Thanks go Google, I found the Wikipedia page for Magical Princess Minky Momo, who had a similar look to what I remember Gigi did if I was remember right. Upon a further search, I found an image of the cover, and thus, the full title:

And then it kind of hit me: Holy cow THAT was my first Anime. It was an animation that came from Japan that I watched as a child. This thing was like pre-Sailor Moon. So... I dunno it kind of makes me happy a little bit because I did watch an early Anime even though I couldn't watch Sailor Moon or Pokémon (or even Cowboy Bebop). My first Anime is from the 90's, not 2004! smile.png

Magical Princess Gigi is also available on YouTube to watch in either English or Japanese version doesn't have subtitles. But some parts were cut from the English version, and other things moved around and if you watch it now, you realize some things don't make sense, and that's because it's the edited version.

Anyway, share your first Anime you ever watched!

Saint Seiya or as it was better know at the time, Knights of The Zodiac. I barely remember the thing now, but at the time it was one of the most popular things that most people acknowledged. Just comparing it to some of the current anime going on now, I can honestly say that the thing has aged pretty well for something that originated from the 80's.

Except Saint Seiya: Omega, that thing is godawful...

The first anime I ever watched might be bits of Speed Racer or Sailor Moon.  I remember seeing My Neighbor Totoro at an early age too.

Pokemon and dragonball were the first animes I really followed though

Pokemon was the first ever, you'll probably be surprised to hear that I hadn't started watching Naruto till' much later... My opinions on the new Pokemon series is mixed - I much prefer the old Pokemon. Oh and lastly, I remember watching "Spirited Away" quite recently I loved the film.

If I recall correctly, the very first anime I ever saw was Kimba the White Lion.

Since I was young at the time, I didn't know it was anime (I'd never even heard of it). However, years later, I remembered that one episode I had seen (not sure which one it was still :P), and I decided to Google the Kimba series. I discovered it was anime, and I also found out that there were two English dubs: The original 1966 dub, and the 1993 [i think] Canadian dub. The version I first saw was the Canadian dub--but I soon found that I preferred the 1966 version [despite the obvious censorship at points].

I'm embarassed today it, but Naruto.

I was in I think 3rd grade when I first remember watching it. I watched it for maybe the first 2 seasons, but after that the storyline started to get really complicated, and I stopped watching it.

I actually can't believe episodes are still being made.

Pokemon for me. I even saw the first movie.

I was in kindergarden when I first discovered it. I went and saw the first movie Pokemon 2000 which was really awesome.  That's when I began to like pokemon.

I am still a fan of it today.

If Pokemon is considered true anime, then I suppose that would be it.

If not though, I started watching Naruto/Bleach at roughly the same time. (One Piece soon followed.) I enjoy the visual storytelling and fight animations. (Because none of it is possible!) :P

The first one I watched with any regularity was Cardcaptor Sakura. I used to love that show as a kid; now I can barely remember it. Maybe I should go back and marathon it along with digimon wub.png.

I not sure I want to though, what if the show was terrible? Maybe I should just let it live on as a memory sleep.png

Sailor Moon. That was my first introduction to anime, but it was Dragon Ball Z that cemented me into the fandom (even though I can't stand it now). I really haven't had time to watch anything new.

Battle Angel.

Only two episodes were ever animated, but I was blown away by them.

I wasn't the only one, apparently. James Cameron has stated that someone would have to wrestle the movie rights away from his cold, dead hands. (He'd better hurry up and get the movie done, then.)

First anime I ever watched was Speed Racer. I don't remember much of it, but I remember being told that I've "seen every single episode at least three times" once I was 5.

It was either Sailor Moon, Pokemon, or Dragon Ball Z.

However, I'm not, nor will I ever be an anime fan. Anime as a whole just doesn't interest me, with the exception of DB/Z/Kai.

Well, when I was a child I watched all of Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z. I liked them both alot.

However, my first anime with a knowledge and desire to get into anime was Full Metal Alchemist because I'd heard from multiple people that it was a great one to start with.
