Righteous Fury 344 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 why are people saying Twilight's a Mary Sue now? I mean she was always more powerful than the rest of the cast fourth episode in the series she's shown picking a bunch of trees at once winter wrap up has her actively restrain herself from reaching her full potential basically anything the Mane 5 can do Twilight can do about as well so what's with all the sudden hate?
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,657 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 (edited) I do not understand the hate either. She has ALWAYS been more powerful than the other ponies. It did not take too many episodes within the first season to realize this. Too me, this is a stupid reason to hate on Twilicorn, since she has always been incredibly skilled in magic. Oh, but now she has wings! BLEH! Twilight is terrible now! Ponies are ruined! BLEH! She was always overpowered, now she is a bit more overpowered. Doesn't really mean much to me. Thrashy 2,800 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 Don't you see? She has wings now, man. WINGS, I tell you! I pity th' foo' who thinks Twilight can continue to be a well-developed character after becoming such an ABOMINATION TO PONYKIND. ...Totally joking, in case anypony can't tell.
Leafeon 2,702 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 ....... What sudden hate? (Not that I don't support it or anything...) Twilight's become more bland in season 3. That's all that's happened, as well as her drinking a bit too much Red Bull. duidamasterXD 9,627 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 I don't like the term Mary Sue, mainly because it has been used so many times and for so many different things that it doesn't really mean much of anything anymore. However I viewed the difference in power/importance as something that I'd prefer to be minimized, rather than expanded upon and magnified. I recognize that there is the possiblilty that this change will make her less interesting and more focused on than I would like, but as that hasn't happened, I'm withholding any allegations. We will see.
Nature's Spell 526 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 Amen! I hate that phrase! Now I'm not trying to minimize anyponies's concern or feelings. I honestly think if you look at the whole show and Twilight's life you can see why she became a princess. You can also see that she won't be perfect and huge reason is that none of the princess are shown as being perfect. If Celestia herself is imperfect why would Twilight suddenly become perfect? 1 Princess Twilight Sparkle: Princess of Friendship Princess Luna: Princess of the Night My short stories

The Mary Sue we KNOW is Celestia. I would agree with this, and I don't think she will be next season, most likely she will need A LOT of help from here friends in the next season. Rather then becoming a Mary Sue I think it might feel like she has been brought down a notch, and will have to rely on friendship more then ever in S4. 3 Have ANY questions about Christianity? Mr Dash 1,820 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 (edited) She is simply gifted with magic, nothing more. Gaining a status boost does not make you Mary Sue. Gaining more power does not make you a Mary Sue. I've never understood this Mary Sue. She was already overpowered in a sense. Now she may have more magical abilities and princesshood, but she is just beginning with that. I don't see her as Mary Sue. Edited April 15, 2013 by Mr. Dash 1 Like, don't underestimate my power man. Shanks 10,816 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 While I do not like twilicorn one bit mainly due to the fact that it is way too soon and have said that it does place her dangerously close to Mary Sue territory it is still too soon to tell whether she actually has become a Mare E Sue yet as there is far more we don't know about twilicorn than what we actually do know. She can become a Mare E Sue quite easily if twilicorn is botched anymore than it already has been through the finale but it can still work so long as Hasbro lets the writers do their jobs. Circadian 1,273 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 (edited) The Mary Sue we KNOW is Celestia. Nuh-uh! Celestia is about as far from Mary Sue as you can get. She's not as powerful as she used to be after being disconnected from the elements and can't protect her subjects anymore. Hence Twilight replacing her. Also, she got beat that one time by Chrysalis. Celestia is like Dumbledore in my eyes. If anybody is a Mary Sue, it's Cadence. She's a world peace advocate, charity worker, wildlife conservationist, organ donor, children's book author, and the freely elected ruler of her own country. Dzastur 1,719 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 I see it this way: Twilight is super-special. Always was, always will be. That's why she needed a push to go to Ponyville and make friends instead of doing it on her own the way any other pony would have. She didn't originally see friends as a necessity, and I think that says it all about her. It went way beyond her just being a loner and/or bookworm - she's a supernatural pony. For all those reasons, Princess Twilight Sparkle was a big "well, duh!" for me. I've always been pleased with how the writers create and handle her flaws to add greater depth to her charater and make her a true protagonist worthy of rooting for. But, if she suffers from Teflon Syndrome every once in awhile, oh well. Girl isn't normal. 2 Ain’t that Equestria / Drop on by / Ain’t that Equestria / Give friendship a try / Ain’t that Equestria / Ponies who fly / Little pink cupcakes for Pinkie Pie

Invisible_Mango 10 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 Honestly, yeah, I don't think it's gonna change much that she's an Alicorn. Probably off the bat people will be all tiptoey around the situation and stuff, but I think that being a princess will actually make Twilight feel a little uncomfortable, as she probably still wants to be seen as an equal to all her friends. I think that'll actually create some interesting plot lines.

I agree with you about Cadence just because she seems so vacuous at times. Celestia needs to be a little Mary Sue although I don't think she is one truly. Luna is Luna enough said. Circadian 1,273 April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 Anyway, I wonder if they will ever do a Magical Mystery cure episode. That would certainly bring it full circle! Veylon 255 April 15, 2013 Share April 15, 2013 If there green-to-red Mary Sue-o-meter, Twilight would be in the yellow, bordering on red. She's spearheaded pretty much every solution and been right about nearly everything. She's been elevated above her former peers to universal applause. Everyone likes her and tells her how wonderful she is. Her one major flaw has been downplayed and effectively excised. So, as things stand right now, at the end of Season 3, I feel pretty comfortable labelling her a Mary Sue. But I'm also looking forward to Season 4. Depending on what happens there, her Mary Sueosity could easily change. She's in an entirely new position with entirely new challenges. We get to see how she deals with stresses she'd never faced before. And so there's plenty of opportunity to reverse my verdict.
Fluttershy_babe 53 April 15, 2013 Share April 15, 2013 Well here is what I think. In the very first episode of MLP: FiM, Twilight was the main character. She was set to find friends. That's how it started. throughout the series, It became obvious Twilight is the leader of the Mane Six, and most powerful one. I wasn't surprised when she became a princess. I think some people are childish and can't accept that. I honestly don't know why hate suddenly started. But I'm guessing people are annoyed that Twilight is always the center of attention. (But of course, I don't think that.) 1 Signature by Lugia.
Shanks 10,816 April 15, 2013 Share April 15, 2013 I wasn't surprised when she became a princess. I think some people are childish and can't accept that. I wasn't surprised that it would happen eventually, but eventually is the key word here. I was expecting something like this to be way way later like the final season or at least a season or two before that much later. And it has so far been handled poorly with a rushed season finale that made no sense and only had alicorn Twilight which was so hyped up for 2 seconds. And though I can't speak for every critic there are a lot of Twilight Sparkle fans that are against this too so it isn't just a bunch of people who are butthurt because Twilight is getting a lot of attention. When it was first announced Twilight was my second favorite pony and she then got bumped up to being tied with Applejack for my favorite pony because as much as I hate twilicorn it did remind me of why I like her. True Rarity 1,240 May 1, 2013 Share May 1, 2013 Sure Twilight was more powerful than all the others of the Mane 6 during the series. But now her princesshood is just emphasizing it. How can they continue the show while she's still being a princess? My deviantART
Pinkazoid 3,493 May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 (edited) Mary Sue does not mean more powerful. Mary Sue is made for characters, Personality/Backstory Wise, at least according to roleplaying. Having a bland character, is Mary Sue, Having a character with a tragic backstory, or an overly happy one is Mary Sue. Having a character that develops a constant personality, or a flawless ability, is also a Mary Sue. (A good way to explain it, is, the Pinkie clones from the pond are Mary Sues.) In this case, being able to solve things, using ONLY the power of "friendship" -No shit, that's how she solved the episode- is considered Mary Sue. @@Fluttershy_babe, There's a difference between not accepting and disliking, if you can't even tell them apart, i see you in no position to call anyone childish. The Awesome One 1,315 May 9, 2013 Share May 9, 2013 She only just got her wings. I don't think she could be as skilled at flying as RD is. Maybe even Fluttershy might be able to beat her at first. Or, being the over-powered Mary Sue she is, she'll perform a sonic rainboom in season 4 just to troll RD.
