Metal sucks, especially the screamo kind.

DO NOT EVER USE THOSE TWO WORDS IN THE SAME SENTENCE EVER AGAIN!!! EVER!!! THEY'RE TWO COMPLEATLY DIFFERENT THINGS!

I heavily dislike metal music, it just doesn't float my boat.

LOL 85% of what I listen to is metal.

Words cannot describe how sick I am of "Discord". Any iteration of it, but especially TLT's remix. Brony-pop at its most nauseating.

I really do not like Bryan Adams. I think his songs are terribly basic; total re-use of typical song structures, and lyrics that a child could have written. "Search your heart, search your soul," bleh. Whenever I happen across one of his songs on the radio, I turn the radio off/switch to another station.

Finally, a message to all pop/rock/alt/techno/drone/stoner whatevers out there, stop using the word "metal" to describe your music. Putting an ingrown toenail-shrieker in the background of your whiny vocals isn't fooling anyone. Go back to the metro bars.

how is this not metal? stop being an elitist.

I have no interest in classic rock or any genre with the word "core."

there is barely a difference between grindcore and death metal in some cases. :3

I'm probably going to get tons of hate for this, but whatevertongue.png

80% of rap/hip hop is terrible/unimaginative/boring

Skrillex is extremely overrated. There are dozens of lesser known dubstep producers out there with more talent.

Killswitch Engage is the best Metalcore band

Alice in Chains is better than Nirvana

Most of the "popular" music played on the radio is terrible

Some country music is actually very good. (Johnny Cash for example).

Yay, Electric Wizard <3

So anyways,

I don't like SOAD and anyone (my friend) who mistakes S.O.D. for SOAD is fucking stupid.

Celtic Frost is kinda underrated.

King Diamond is just as good a Singer as Bruce Dickinson.

Bruce Dickinson's last name is funny.

Vary Vikernes is awesome and so are the things he did.

I'm not telling you what to say. It's called the "unpopular music related opinions thread." I just gave you some and you're complaining? It's fine to disagree with me but it's not a debate.

You have a point on the second one though.

Now I can respect your "unpopular opinion" and understand why you'd say something like that, but just because a certain sub-genre of Metal is outside of the usual, doesn't make it not be a Metal genre, just my thought on this.

Ride the Lightning is overrated (*gets shot by NeverNeverland*)

Peace Sells is also a bit overrated (*also gets shot*)

I actually like the song "Frantic" off of St. Anger

The song "Enter Sandman" is overrated as hell

No and No, Reign in Blood on the other hand...

I've listened to a bit St.Anger before, it's not that bad.

Agreed, Master of Puppets and One are also overplayed and burnt out.

One is actually my favorite, and Master of Puppets is probably one of my favorites too. I suppose they are a bit overplayed though.

They're very overplayed, they're still great songs though. Kill Em' All was their best album in my opinion, after that they started slow down a bit and use some progressive elements.

Pop is one of my favorite genres of music, and on the whole, I prefer the newer stuff.

Bob Dylan is kinda boring.

Lyrics should always be a secondary focus to overall sound and feel of a song

The Baroque and Classical eras were meh; the Romantic period is where it's at!

Showtunes are not cheesy and can be legitimately great, compelling music.

(I'm not that knowledgeable in genres, unfortunately, so I can't say too much about those in the specific.)

Wut D:

So anyways,

New Order is just Joy Division with out Ian Curtis.

Country>Rap

Country gets bashed too much.

I like the sound of fuzz.

Mudhoney is underrated.

Some Metallica and Megadeth songs are easy to play.

Cannibal Corpse is the reason nobody takes metal seriously.

Pink Floyd's overrated. They're still really good, though.

The Beatles were actually pretty bad. They just copied old folk songs and made them "rock"

Skrillex is a legitimate musician.

No, Slipknot is the reason metal isn't taken seriously, they're the ones wearing costumes.

I kinda agree.

No -.-

Yea, I guess you can say that.

I love 60's British pop bands like The Hollies, The Searchers, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and early Beatles.

Let's Dance wasn't that bad of a David Bowie album. Tonight and Never Let Me Down though...

Speaking of Bowie, I don't think The Next Day is as amazing as most fans are making it out to be.

Post-Mick Taylor Rolling Stones weren't bad, and neither were post-Jim Morrison Doors.

Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something?

I actually really strongly agree that most of the decent heavy metal out there comes from Europe.

Though, there is some really noteworthy stuff here in the U.S. of A.

Slough Feg

Helstar

Kamelot

Manowar

But, then there are like fifty other metal bands I like that are in Europe. I think interest in metal may or may not be dying in the US, if it isn't dead already.

I had no idea that Slough Feg was from the U.S. Do I need another period on that? "U.S.."? Looks awkward either way.

Since the four bands you listed are all power, I'll go off of that. Anyway, the U.S. never really had much power metal in the first place, so I wouldn't say it's 'dying' in that respect. It's just not a very power metal-y place. Lots of other kinds of metal, so it's definitely not dying overall.

I found out about Jag Panzer and Holy Grail in the metal thread a while ago. Those two are really nice, both from USA. Iced Earth is also another good one, it's older stuff is closer to thrash though. There's also 3 Inches of Blood from Canada, though I never really enjoyed that.

Again though, I wouldn't say that a lack of power metal means the interest is dying at all.

Pig Destroyer's Doom tracks like Natasha and everything from the Mass & Volume EP are better than their Grind ones

The best EDM material is from the 90's

Deadmau5 gets too much praise by his fanbase

Justice are better than Daft Punk

There's some more

What about the Florida death metal scene? Or the Bay Area thrash scene? There's plenty of great American bands.

Power metal has always been more of German thing.

My music opinions are not unpopular because people disagree with them, but unpopular because no one's heard of half the stuff I listen to. XD

And I've never heard of half the stuff most people listen to.

Bring on the haters.

-Electronica is awful. Dubstep, techno, trance, drum and bass, you name it. There is little to no sense of human error: All beats are perfectly quantized; all notes are perfectly on pitch; dynamic range is nonexistent and the entire mix is brickwalled to kingdom come. It's robotic, lifeless. Call me an elitist if you will, but I don't think anypony can make the argument that it somehow takes just as much skill to click a mouse as mastering the fingerboard of a violin.

-Pop lyrics suck ass. 90% of the time it's all about partying, drinking, partying, dancing, partying, sex, partying, money, and...I think partying. Not too sure about that last one, though. I guess statements about politics, religion, the grim state of the human condition, and other subjects that our brain dead societies would rather ignore are just old hash for today's lyricists.

-The death growl sucks. I don't mind hearing it sporadically in bands that employ multiple styles of singing, but ones that make the death growl their exclusive vocal style are just boring as all hell, even in cases where the instrumentation is phenomenal.

-Avenged Sevenfold is overrated. Love the instrumentation, but M. Shadows's voice makes me want to strangle something. Every time I hear his nasally, whiny voice I just want to shout "Your voice is bad and you should feel bad!" To his credit, he has improved with Nightmare, but the damage has already been done for me as a potential fan.

-System of a Down is overrated. For all the statements Tankian tries to make about serious issues in his music, I can't take any of those statements seriously because of the bouncy, ill-structured, zany nature of the songs themselves, not to mention the ridiculous accents that Tankian constantly likes to pepper his singing with. If you go out of your way to be weird and silly, don't be surprised when people overlook the "serious" things you have to say.

-Opeth is underwhelming. As much disdain as I see for Dream Theater in this thread, I still find them more interesting to listen to than Opeth, and that's coming from somepony who finds DT a bit boring to begin with. Seriously, everypony's talking about them like they're the greatest thing that's ever happened to metal, but really they're just another prog metal band stuck inside of what I like to call their "theory box".

The reason why Opeth get such high praise is that they are a Progressive Death Metal band. They have a status as one of the most creative and unique Death Metal bands out there. Honestly after reading this I'm thinking that you're obviously not a fan of Progressive Metal. But all in all, I as a major Opeth fan can completely understand why you wouldn't like them they're not the band for everyone, I just wanted to point out how they've gotten their praise.

I do appreciate prog metal and some of its elements, but no, I wouldn't classify my a real fan of it either. I'm a thrash man, myself. More than anything, though, it's the death dynamic of Opeth that drops them below DT in my eyes, as I'm not exactly a fan of death metal or its elements (as you could probably tell by my hating on the death growl), so for there to be death elements in a prog band kind of ruins the experience further for me. But for those who like both death and prog, I can see why Opeth would be a dream come true.
