Hello there everypony! Today, I happened to stumble across a project for a MLP themed MMORPG called Legends of Equestria. I'm sure some of you have already heard of it, but I though it would be a good idea to start up a thread so that the good bronies of mlp forums could show their support for the new game. I can't wait until the game is finished.  I went to the website and looked at everything.  I can't beleive that a group of people would dedicate so much time to make this.  Thank you for starting this topic.

No problem! I wanted to contribute in some way to the support of the game, so I thought that starting this thread would be a good idea! I want to help the designers get as much support as possible. They even have the support of Hasbro, so it looks like it will definitely be given the go ahead. I hope it comes out soon!

Yeah, i sure hope Hasbro does not catch  attention of this, or it'll probably go down the same road as Fighting is Magic and MLP Online did..

 

It surprises me though, how Hasbro, who used to be so open-minded and accepting to fan-made content suddenly embargoes so much Fanstuff.

I'm glad to see you're all showing your support for the game! Don't worry about Hasbro though! From what I've heard, they are actually in full support of the game! I think they shut down games such as Fighting is Magic because the game was moving the show completely outside the original target audience. Legends of Equestria, while an MMORPG, still keeps itself just inside the target audience, since it's going to be a game suitable for everypony!

Yeah, it still has a little while to go, but maybe if we can increase more support and awareness of the game, the brony community will be able to increase its support and maybe even help production of the game! The more people that know, the better!

Wow! I'm pretty jealous! It looks really good, and I hope that they release it soon! You never know, they might even be able to finish it by the end of this year!

I've been following Legends of Equestria's development since it was Equestria Online. It will be such an awesome game when it's finished, but I think it'll take longer than this year to finish. Maybe Pre-Alpha will be done by the end of this year or early next year. Sadly, even professional MMOs take years to develop.

 

Then again, there's the problem that some drama has popped up at Legends of Equestria. It started sometime early last week with a couple of people who used to be on the dev team. Dandy Lion and ColgateFIM. What sucks is that SweBow was removed from the team the other day. If any of you don't know about him, he was their awesome PR. He was pretty cool. There's even a link to a statement he wrote in a Google document floating around.

I love this game! I wish this game got released sooner, because I have never seen any other pony game as good as this one!

Hasbro only gets involved when either

a) You give the impression of selling mass-produced stuff rather than custom/art items 

They've already licensed someone else to produce something similar, and that someone else thinks your stuff infringes on that license.

 

Most of the 'drama' around C&Ds falls under b. In this case, Gameloft holds the license for MLP video games, and once they started screaming about devalued licenses because of unfair competition, Hasbro had to respond around Fighting is Magic and MLP Online, or face lawsuits themselves.

 

The team for this one, however, seems to have gone to Hasbro *first* and jumped through the hoops to get special permission and their own form of license. Gameloft may be able to complain still, but legally they can't do anything about it. In fact, at this point Gameloft may even be subject to some kind of penalty for not exercising their license to it's fullest extent. Welcome to corporate business. It's nasty here. Think about it like a financial version of the game of chicken. It's all about who blinks first.

 

Anyway, getting a license from Hasbro really isn't that hard, but you have to be able to prove that you have the capability of delivering on the license. I looked into it once, but couldn't prove that the market actually existed for the products I was looking to produce, or that I was capable of producing that product for a pricepoint that justified the effort. As cute as the idea of MLP-themed horse tack and saddles was, the cost was prohibitive.

Actually, LOE has the best chance of not going down then any other site out there. Fighting is Magic and Equestria Online used canon characters, while LOE is using OC's with Hasbro's permission.

Yes I've seen this project a few times before. It's rather impressive. I hope it's seen to completion (the last thing we need is another dead MLP game project).
