Will Spike get wings someday?

When i first saw this thread i thought it was another one of those "will Celestia give Spike wings after she does the rest of the mane 6" / alicorn darama threads.   But i guess there's been some good discussion here. Although if he grew larger in the Dragon Greed eps w/o wings then he likely won't grow them the natural method either.

Umm I don't think so. Spike only started to mature and grow wings as he exhibited more and more greed, he will not grow without once again becoming greedy because like all cartoons, the characters generally don't get older.

It really depends on how they would describe his "puberty changes" as his wings could be a symbol of. For people, we have all of our body parts when born. Spike was born without wings, and during his birthday episode we did see him (at what I assumed was his fully grown stage) without wings. 

 

Now put on your tinfoil hats, because I don't think Spike is actually a dragon. I think he is a drake. Which is basically a "lesser dragon".

It's speculated that he indeed will get wings at some point in his life-span. He is too young to get them now and the reason why wings haven't grown on him when he grew up fast was because his growth was accelerated so quickly for his wings to even come into place.

I imagined a scene in which a slightly older Spike who DOES have wings and Rainbow Dash meet on a hilltop right as the sun is rising, and have a friendly but super-fast race against one another. Neither of them speak during the whole thing; it just shows them flying all over Equestria. At the end, they accidentally knock something over onto Princess Twilight, and end up on the ground in the same laughing pose as they did in Friendship is Magic, Pt. 1 (Spike lying on Dash's belly) when they all first met. Twilight eventually laughs, too.

But wouldn't this be relative to people being born missing (insert organ/body part)? The girl living with half a brain isn't growing the other half to my knowledge.

 

I would say it is a birth defect that he suffers from. The early stages of development are vital. Rushing through that process most likely rendered the development of such things virtually impossible to obtain naturally.

 

EDIT!: But if Twilight was able to get wings through Celestia, perhaps the same can be done for Spike if they can make a new spell designed for dragons. (or drakes )

I suppose that makes more sense ,but it doesn't seem too likely. I mean it's not like his egg was tampered with prior to his hatching. Maybe Twilight's magic prevented his wing growth or something. I wouldn't be surprised if it did seeing how much she screws Spike over.

Also, no. I don't think that Equestrian dragons (or any kind of dragons) develop their wings over time. That'd be like growing a pair of extra arms, could you imagine how painful that would be? O_e I think they're born with or without them, personally.

 

Also, if anyone makes a Clarence the Angel joke, I shall verbally castigate them. I'm watching you. e_e

 

...Or like a pony suddenly gaining wings when she original had none, and understanding how to use them right off the bat.

 

Speaking seriously, with so much mystery surrounding Dragons, even to the point that Twilight said herself in S2 there is little known about them, I wouldn't be surprised if dragons did reach an age where they go through a a metamorphosis.  While this did happen with Secret to my Excess, to a certain degree, I think it may have been a rapid growth spurt that was brought about by the little assistant's unnatural upbringing as he was with ponies vs being brought up with greedy dragons. 

 

What may happen is Spike achieving a more naturalized life cycle where he might go through minor growth spurts throughout his extended life cycle.  Still have no idea of the life cycle of dragons; those teenage dragons we saw during Dragon Quest could have been 100 to 200 years old, hatching around the time when Granny Smith first came to the area where Ponyville was founded.

Well,Spike still is only a baby dragon so it'll probaly take a while for him to finally grow wings.Even in the episode when Spike gets greedy (I can't remember the name of the episode >.<) he didn't grow wings,but that didn't exactly count as growth so when he Actually grows,he'll probaly grow wings.

Based on what we've seen about dragons on the show so far, Spike is the only dragon with no wings, but he's also the only baby dragon seen too. That being said, I assume dragons in this universe have to grow their wings. I hope that Spike will grow up eventually in the series, it seems viable seeing as he's so young. I'd also like to see the CMC and baby Cakes grow a little too eventually in the series, some time should pass eventually to keep things interesting and keep the story coherent. I'd really like to see Spike at least be a teenager by the end of FiM. It may seem like a lot of time needs to pass, but Spike's already had two growth spurts already (albeit he went back to normal both times).

Ah, but he isn't the only dragon shown to have no wings. There was also Spike's second opponent in the tail wrestle, he had no wings either. Visual confirmation:

I completely forgot about that, it blows my hopes out of the water when I think about it.  

Though it still could be that we may never even see Spike grow up which is even sadder.

I honestly think that Spike would look kind of weird and disproportionate with wings. So I don't think he should have any. Besides like someone else said, he was born a wingless dragon so I doubt he'll just grow some wings. Unless they do a creepy cocoon thing. Which would mean he is a butterdragon. O.O

So, in my option, Spike is fine the way he is.
