Fanfiction has come up with a lot of theories which split off from what the show did and look at them in a much more benevolent fashion. If you're interested you can look into that more and discuss it in this thread.

I have made brony music since 2011. I like all kinds of music and genres. I'm sure you'll like some of it..

I've always thought of Changelings as failed alicorns myself.

there should be more than a handful of Alicorns in Equestria, so what happens to the ones we don't see?

 

Alicorns wield powerful magic. Twilight and Cadence were both ascended to godhood for their mastery of magic, so what happens when a foal is born an alicorn without a means of controling his/her abilities? Might explain why they look like half-developed, burned-up husks of ponies.
