Vinyl Scratch (Filly)™ 936 June 2, 2013 Share June 2, 2013 Yeah, my parents know. Sometimes they joke about and make fun of me light heartedly and sometimes they buy me random crap, which is great! Klondike 2 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 Hehe....nah. Then again there's a lot about my entertainment preferences they don't know. Heck, they didn't even know I read comic books through high school. Fillydelphia Flyers
tehepicpony 22 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 I had too. I couldn't just sneak a RD plush you know. Like how i explained Homestuck to my mom just to get A FRICKING JADE GOD TIER HOODIE WHICH STILL HAS NOT ARRIVED IN THE MAIL. GOD DANGIT HUSSIE. (So i have told them, and my friends who make fun of me, but i know they are just joking and they don't really care, because they only do it when i bring it up, and when i tell them to stop and they do, so i don't give 2 craps) PERSONA 4!!!!!!!! Icy Wonderbolt 34 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 No, because if they did they would eithter laugh their anuses out or just tell me to leave my house and never come back. so no my parents don't know I'm a brony, and I'm keeping it that way.
nickdh 49 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 Ah wow. Yes, my parents do. My sister got me started with it, and told my parents ALLLLLL about it. They read somewhere online that bronies are gay so now they think I'm gay. xDI went to a brony meetup a few months back with my dad... and wow, I will admit, a lot of them there were bisexual and two gay, but my dad thought they were all gay, so now I am forbidden to hang out with them anymore My family's religion seriously shines against gay, bi, lesbian, etc.. ~ for real, please check out this topic. I promise it'll make your dayyyyy! ~Check out my site for updates on Equestrian Adventures, along with other games!
DainbowRash 4 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 I have no dad, as they divorced, but he would have probably called me gay and defied all explainations. My mum understood it all. My uncle is very ok with it and supports me.
Rainbro-Stache 101 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 Yep they do! My mother came to visit me one time and I had in a MLP earring in and she asked: "Whos that in your ear?" Derpy "Whats a derpy? A pony. "From what?" My little pony of course! I explained to her a bit about what a brony was and she seemed kinda confused, but about a week later she sent me My Little Pony stickers so I guess shes okay with it
Ryu Hayabusa 10 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 My mom doesn't know. She'd probably just be indifferent to it. Her boyfriend would laugh, but I have dirt on him as well. My sister knows, my girlfriend knows, and I'm guessing she told my friends by now, so they probably know. As for my brother, I dread him finding out. He'll likely find out when he asks what I'm doing wearing an Applejack shirt!
Verily British 145 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 I guess this is a case of different perspectives. Though in a way, no closet brony is really missing out on much since most of the fandom is on the Internet anyway. And I don't know about other people, but I have more fun on MLP Forums than if I talked to one of my family members about ponies. It feels awkward in ways as when in conversation, I would say to myself "you do realise how old you are, and that you openly talking about ponies with your brother?" Good thing it sounds like you can still express yourself as a brony with the merch. Oh, I am by no means a closet brony, all my friends know. A lot of people at my school are aware as well. I have actually told some of my younger family members just not my parents. Aside from the slight worry that they would take it badly, I honestly have any idea on how to even bring it up. I'd rather them discover what a brony was and then tell them that I'm a brony. As for the merch, I can buy it but only in person as to order off of the internet I would have to consult my parents and they would then ask what it was about thus leading to the awkward conversation. And before you ask, the day my parents trust me with money on the internet is the day they go and sunbathe in snow in the middle of the night. It took a year of pleading and reasoning to get them to buy me minecraft.
Callisto 1,877 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 Yes, and they rightly couldn't care less, seeing as it's a TV show. Why does someone need to know like a TV show? But yeah, they know. They'll get me neat pony things occasionally, but mostly don't care. Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something? Mana 9 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 Well, I talk to my mother about ponies non-stop for hours on end until she finally cracks and tells me to shut up so... Yeah, I think that they know.
Jamie 302 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 Nope. But that could change soon. I just bought a derpy tshirt from redbubble a few days ago. plus I'm expecting my elements of harmony official guide to come through the mail soon, although I will most likely hide that one under my bed until they know. But, actually, I'm not 100% sure that they don't know. My dad walked into my room the other day and saw my sketchbook lying on my bed. And guess what? He looked in it! I'm not sure if he saw any of my pony drawings, he could of just seen some other sketches I did, or maybe some rough poniverse logo ideas. He denies looking in it but he says no in that suspicious parent way.
Musix 237 June 3, 2013 Share June 3, 2013 "DAD? CAN YOU DRIVE ME TO SHEFFIELD?" "What? All the way to Sheffield? Why?" "I'm a Brony and I need to see Glaze" "....K lol sure" And that's the story of how I told my parents. 3 Brony Guards - Apply now! -Musix Nos Castor Auferet - 155 Squadron's motto Contrary to popular belief by strange people, Rainbow Dash is the best pony in the entire universe. rjrgmc28 130 June 4, 2013 Share June 4, 2013 Although I'm in my late 20's and still living under my parents roof (aka I'm still living with them and I've got no choice in the matter), both my Mum and Dad are OK with me watching the show and being part of the brony community. Although they might not approve of me staying up to 2:00am on a early Sunday morning just to watch new episodes. To them, it's just another TV show. My mum found out about it when I was shopping for work clothes one day at one of the Big W stores in my area when I ducked off to the toy section and picked up two playsets (Pony School Pals & Cheerilee + Royal Castle Friends) and placed them in the trolley. She never said a word or batted a eyelid about it but instead asking me about the price of the playsets when using the self serve checkout. I also openly display my pony collection in my bedroom without any fuss or hassle. Although my Mum likes to move my pony plushies around the place when she makes the bed from time to time and then having to move them back where they belong. In one instance, this happened to my Twilight Sparkle plush:
LMW-YBC 102 June 5, 2013 Share June 5, 2013 Yup, both my Mum and my Dad have known for a while now. My Mum didn't really seem to care; the most she did was chuckle and bring it up a few times, but that's about it. My Dad on the other hand, well, doesn't really take it too seriously either (which is good, of course). He's cool with it, and he even took me to Build-A-Bear one time to get a Pinkie Pie plushie ^^
zlogi 16 June 5, 2013 Share June 5, 2013 My brother knows im a brony, and he told my mom so i assume she told my dad. so yes im pretty sure they do. ill probably tell anyone if they ask but ill never probably bring up a conversation about mlp. not that id ever really bring up a conversation at all lol. Repsidy 35 June 5, 2013 Share June 5, 2013 My parents know I'm a brony. It helps when your 23 year old cousin and 15 year old sister are also bronies. My parents don't really care though. they tell me not to go completely crazy over it though. (to late) XD "HELP! I'm trapped in my mind again!!! EnderBrony 26 June 5, 2013 Share June 5, 2013 I wish. All I have in the means of pony merch is a lanyard that one of my friends bought me for Christmas. I have to hide it in my backpack though. I'm actually trying to work up the courage to tell my parents though
dash360 102 June 5, 2013 Share June 5, 2013 Come on people, its not that bad. My brothers were the ones to tell my parents (entire family too). After i thoroughly explained to them what it was they didnt think i was gay or any of the above. My parents are very traditional btw, they frown apon anything girly. Im just one hell of a butler. GenderIsAnIllusion 2,177 June 5, 2013 Share June 5, 2013 Naw. my parents don't know..... and as long as I keep taking my sister to the movies every time a movie she wants to see comes out they probably never will......... yeah im being blackmailed by my twelve year old sister..... she caught me watching it on my I-phone one day and that's that..... Blackbee The Brony 2 June 5, 2013 Share June 5, 2013 Yeah. They noticed when I started to watch it over and over. And my mom still doesn't know what a brony is no matter how many times i tell her..
lincolnshirepony 527 June 6, 2013 Share June 6, 2013 My parental units are aware. :B I've asked for pony related things as birthday presents and whatnot. I've also watched the show in my living room. They know that I love animation anyway, so it's not too strange for me. They don't get why I like FiM, but they don't have anything against it, which works for me. DFTBA. Mudkip 100 June 6, 2013 Share June 6, 2013 I'm not sure if my dad knows (or cares) because I never watch it around him since he only watches cartoons for laughs not for any other reason and I couldn't see MLP:FIM do it for him. My mom on the other hand hates cartoons with every strand of DNA in her body. Which I find ironic because she is an artist. She also hates the internet so explaining mlp or the brony fandom to her would be virtually impossible.
PinkiePai 181 June 6, 2013 Share June 6, 2013 (edited) I have one blind bag pony on my shelf, ponies on my desktop and phone, but I don't really run around yelling "I love ponies, guys". My mom said the ponies looked cute a few times but that's about it, no one in my family reacted negatively but they generally don't even ask about it. All of my friends know, but none of them are Bronies themselves. Even some people I don't like know it, but it didn't have even close to the negative effect people often claim it to have, everything is still normal and no one called me gay yet.
