Pinkie Pie Backround

Hey, so I was bored and decided I wanted to make something in Photoshop, After about 30-45 minutes I came up with this.

 

I mostly did some smudge work on the render to get Effects, Leaving the render Large for the backround, and small for the focal. A couple space stocks were used and set to overlay/lighten to get the stars and a bit of texture in the background.

The only thing I'd say for future reference is to not make the hoof seem so blurry. It would be fine if all of her was like that, but not just that one bit. Also, to give Pinkie a bit more texture, you might want to make a clouds overlay.

 

To do so, just make a new layer, then filter > render > render clouds. Make sure your foreground color is white and background is black. Then change that layer to overlay. Then select the image your vector is on (CTRL +Click on layer icon) and create a layer mask on your overlay layer. Then play with the opacity a bit. It's A real nice effect with little effort.

I have a cloud overlay in there, I just didn't like how it looked over pinkie, so I put it under her. I'm thinking about Messing around with it some more. Also I didn't try to blur the hoof either, Must have been the smudging layer over the main that caused it.

 

If I do mess around and come up with something I like, I'll post it in this topic.

Don't have much to do right now so I quickly moved the Cloud overlay up. It's looks pretty good, added the cloud early while I as making it, now it looks fine. And as for the second one, I messed around with the filters a bit, Looks Interesting if a bit grainy, but I think it looks cool and fits my perspective on Pinkie Pie.

 

Also, If anyone wants to use them (I doubt people will) go ahead. Just let me know so that I feel good that someone likes them enough to use them lol.

These are really good! I might have to add one to my Windows 7 theme slideshow. The fact that its Pinkie Pie is the best part. The effects are well done

Thanks for liking them! I've probably spent around 100 hours in Gimp and Photoshop, So if they weren't good I'd be a bit depressed. I usually tend to rate what I make lower then others.

Nope, I didn't take any classes for Photoshop. Although I am taking classes for drawing and real world stuff (that's my downfall, I am not as good drawing as I am with Photoshop). I mainly taught myself with trial and error in Photoshop, plus I hang out on a forum DEDICATED to Photoshop and Digital art in general so I picked up a few things from there through different tutorials.

 

It took a while to get my meager proficiency (the people on the other forum are amazing) take my first ever signature for instance:

 

 

Yeeeeaaaah.... It's horrible.

 

All it takes is practice, my stuff didn't really start to look good until a couple months back when something clicked in my brain and the quality improved.

I really like the abstract style of backing to the background you did and I think the detail you've put into Pinkie is great! I would say however to blur it less as it kinda makes the foreground (Pinkie) blend with the background which might draw focus away from her. Overall amazing background and I may have to steal it
