gaming So how do you feel about fairy type Pokemon?

I don't see why people made a huge fuss about it. I, a shadow of the Hero of Time, possibly the awesomest villain out there likes the new Fairy Type. Why simple mortals can't like it, I have no clue. The type seems all around awesome, I mean, I've always wanted my cuties to beat up dragons. (By cuties I mean Jigglypuff, Shaymin, etc.)

Be grateful the Fairy Type isn't based off of Navi. Imagine?

"Jigglypuff, use 'HEY, LOOK, LISTEN'!"

"HEY, LOOK, LISTEN!"

Foe Dragonite fainted!

I like using dragons and dark types, so I'm biased.

I LOVE the new Fairy type! Can't wait to use one. Fairies will likely become a staple of my teams, and I'm betting it'll replace Fire as my second favorite type :3

I can still beat you with mah dragons and mah dark types.

I don't really mind the fairy type Pokemon at all, besides there were times were we had some goofy type of Pokemon. So, we can accept it since it isn't bad at all yet.

*Salamence use Dragon Claw*

*It had no effect*

I thoight dragon trpe pokemon were weak against ice type pokemon. Now fairy pokemon. Im sorry, but I feel that it is kind of useless.

Dragon is weak to itself as well, but Dragon types are about as far from useless as can be because they tend to be some of the most powerful Pokemon in the game. Fairy seems it will only be helping balance things a bit more though, there's just no way that Dragons will ever become completely useless.

It's about time!

I was thinking that they really should add an 18th type to change things up a bit.  I thought they'd go with "Storm" type, but I guess there is more potential in the Fairy type.

Anyways, theories on type effectiveness:

Defense

Strong against: Dark, Dragon, Ghost

Weak against: Bug, Psychic, Fighting

Offense

Strong against: Dark, Dragon, Poison

Weak against: Bug, Psychic, Steel

All for it. Dragons IMHO have always kinda been hard to take down.

What I kinda did mind was the fact that older Pokemon were converted.

My opinion: ... eh?...

On one hand, it's good to have more coverage against dragon types and maybe it will push their dominance out of the overused tier. On the other hand though... fairy type? I think just creating some new stronger ice types would accomplish this goal without needing to create a whole new type with the "super effective against dragons" message being its primary selling point. If I were to make a new type, I would try to go with something... well, a little more inspired. Maybe a property of matter (ex: nuclear, lunar, wood, light...) instead of an actual thing (dragon / fairy.)

Also currently, we only know that this new type is super effective against dragons; there might be a massive weakness we don't know about yet, some kind of earthquake / fire type equivalent.

This, but also probably because Fire Type Pokemon are MUCH easier to find than an Ice type or Dragon type. Just my opinion, but I'd have to say it is easier fighting a Steel type than a Dragon Type, like for me, Jasmine was easy, Clair beat me at least twice, haha.

But yeah, I think it's a silly idea, but Dragons are WAY too powerful! I wonder how it will work with some other Pokemon though, like Marill is Water/Fairy, but Azumarill is Water/Ice, so will it keep its existing typing, or will it change to be Water/Fairy too? Not that it's a big problem, since they're both super effective anyway, but still!

Yes, agreed. Steel has a weakness to types that are more common than types that are strong against Dragons. Besides, most Steel types don't have the ridiculously strong stats that many Dragon types have.

Well if you take a look at the pseudo legendaries, you'll notice that the majority are dragon types. The only two that aren't are Tyrannitar (Rock/Dark) and Metagross (Steel/Psychic).

my feelings about the addition of fairy type are pretty much the same as when they added dark and steel.

"oh hey, they added new types. I wonder what they do"

except this time, I knew about it going into the game and I am noticeably excited

When I heard this type, I was THRILLED. It sounds weird, but ever since I heard it, I was hoping they would have fairy/dark typed Pokemon. It is going to be amazing since mainly, they like to base off of real life myths. Maybe they would be more based on mythology rather than fairy tales like we know of.

Dragons are virtually immune to a lot of types, more than other types. I'm sure its not THAT bad. I think it'll be weak against half of the underpowered pokemon.

Dragons aren't immune to anything, they're just resistant to fire, water, grass and electric. They also tend to have very high stats, that's why I like using them.

That's why I hate themlocal. I never have many dragon types since the ones I liked always took long to evolve. Its not very fair they can be resistant against lots of types, but not very many super effectives. It'll be a crime if Blissy would be a fairy type. Dragons will flee.

That's the trade off to them being hard to find and taking long to evolve they have very high stats and are resistant to common types.

Maybe now they'll show up more. Its my work ethic (or lack of one) for not really wanting that type. Instead of dragon, I wish they'd make better grass type or fire Pokémon..

Its not a real honor when some pokemon in those common types are rather..bad..

This really sounds fun! biggrin.png

I imagine what kinds of wacky names and designs they're gonna come up with now to introduce the new type. I really like this idea, because not only will it most likely balance the game a bit, but oh boy, is it interesting!! After all, this didn't happen since Gold & Silver (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I've always had hard times when fighting off Dragon Pokemon since I don't usually use them, so I usually had to go look for Ice types instead in order to stand a chance... I'll definitely catch some fairies now in this new generation~

I like it because is makes fighting dragon types easier. I don't like it because it makes USING dragon types harder. Well, as long as Jigglypuff doesn't go around carrying a book labeled "Da Rules" I don't really care.

Have you ever tried catching a Trapinch or even a Swablu? Or even Horsea? Or any of the pseudolegendary Pokemon?

Its not a real honor when some pokemon in those common types are rather..bad..

They're resistant to all the starters, that's pretty cool IMO.

Initially I was really against fairy type. I just felt like it was a bit late to be introducing a new type and I didn't like that some pokemon were having their type changed. At this point in time I don't really care anymore, I've accepted it, I don't really like it but it's not gonna be enough to make me not buy the game.

I think Pokemon has been crap ever since Gold and Silver were released. It's just been a redundant cycle of the same thing. The creators are obviously running out of ideas and only care about making money. I grew up with the original 150 and after that it just sucked to me.

Well i think a new type is never a bad thing and heck we haven't seen a new type since gold and silver so this might bring an interesting new twist to the gameplay. And you guys have to admit that Dragon types are overpowered. And people shouldn't complain how dragon type is now going to be usless, there are still stats, levels and other stuff to counter that. There are also some hints that fairy types will be strong against ice and weak against poison in some pokemon show from Japan ( i don't know what its called but they were trying to figure otu Sylvion's type and made her do random sh*t)

Wow this is definitely a big change for Pokemon. Honestly however, I can’t say I’m too surprised by this. In the past the Bulbapedia had its type category to the top right and it always seemed to be lacking and uneven, with that weird ???? category always filling up the remaining empty slot. Having Fairy types fills in that slot well and gives us an even 18 types to work with. The big irony to me is that as a kid, I used to make some Pokemon fanon in a notebook and had my own gym leaders and pokemon drawn and Iwritten out. One of the gym leaders used the forms of Jigglypuff and Clefairy specifically and I had them listed as their own unique types. I’m expecting that Clefairy will be a Fairy type based on these changes. It BETTER be, I mean it has FAIRY written into CleFAIRY. Not doing so would be akin to DRAGONite not being a Dragon type. huh.png

It actually makes sense that the game has a Fairy type now, even though I’d prefer them to be Holy Light types since Light is diametrically opposed to Dark. By their nature, Dark types are mischievous, sneaky, deceptive and tend to employ shadows and the occult to fight. Light Fairy types, would be by contrast, pure, innocent, sincere and fight fair or are at least seemingly good natured hence their fairy affiliation. At the least we can assume they’re nice and playful.

As for Dragon types, they can die in the pit they spawned from, well except Dragonite, he’s too lovable. The additional weakness Fairy types provide now is almost certainly a means to balance the game, since Dragon types have been notoriously overpowered as it is. Its a nice addition to the game like Steel and Dark types were, the latter introduced to balance out Psychics. Remember when Psychic types were overpowered? Those were the days. For me though, it doesn't matter any way however, I will always stand by my Mamoswine and Ice types, cool and distant.

Also since there’s a generation VI I just have 1 question:

WHEN THE HELL ARE WE GONNA GET A DARK TYPE GYM LEADER?!?!

Dragons pwn all mang. Just look at their stats. I also think steel types are annoying. But, yea Psychic types were OP AF back in the day. Alakazam was a huge pain, luckily a Pokemon like Tyrannitar can easily demolish it nowadays. Another reason why I like dark types, they're immune to Psychic.

Kingdra is by far the best non-legendary water type, stat wise. Kingdra is also really hard to kill.

I like Claire mang, she's like mah waifu.
