Why were the CMC in High School?

Considering the ages of Celestia and Luna in Equestria, I doubt ages are exactly the same, thete must be changes, otherwise we have an a pair of ancient ladies.

I suppose it could be the CMC are actually slightly older then I first predicted them as being.

 

However it could also be the fact its an alternate universe, and the actual age of any of the characters present in the highschool is irrelevant to the age of them in the pony world.

 

I think that because the highschool is where the movies set all the characters were made high school students. I suppose maybe they could've been brought along with someone else at the party though idk.

 

I don't think their age is consistent with their age in the pony world. I think of them as more like 10-11ish in the pony world.

Well, they weren't brought that's for sure, I seen them in some of the classes the Main 6 shared. Unless this is pretty small and they really mean 6-12th grade, then I'm not sure.

You sure about that? When I was in high school, it always seemed like each new batch of freshmen looked younger and younger every year.

 

I know exactly what you're talking about. I went to a voc school and it took 15 different communities around the area, so I met a variety of people. As I went from being a freshman, sophomore, junior, then senior, I noticed that each new class just looked younger and younger. When I was a freshman, there were juniors with full grown beards and some were real tall. My class didn't even look that old when we became juniors.

 

To OP, doesn't surprise me at all that the cmc where in the highschool. They are most defiantly freshman while the mane 6 are seniors.

Well, my school is a middle school combined with a highschool, both highschoolers and middleschoolers share the same building, same teachers and everything. So maybe this is one of those scenarios?

Some high schools do have middle school grades in them.

But since this the CMC were talking about, they could be in the 7th grade.

I honestly believe that the middle school and high school are combined, so that would explain the human CMC to be in the school. Along with S&S, DT&SS, and a few other human representations of the foals in the show.

If they were freshmen, god, they look a lot like sixth graders. I think the crusaders are there so the viewers can tell that everypony is there. I'm pretty sure Hasbro thought that we might be wondering where the crusaders were if they didn't add them.

Yeah, The CMC are supposed to be in middle school. Maybe the CMC's school and the High School is connected and the High School invited them to a dance party?

Remember what Celestia said about the mirror? It is a different dimension so the main characters in the human dimension aren't the same as it is in Equestria. The school must have been Equestria so they wanted to place all the ponies in the show into the movie. Some of the background characters in the human dimension I have noticed aren't very familiar to the background ponies in Equestria. I did recognize Cloudkicker, Scootaloo, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon,  Princess Luna, Princess Celestia, Carrot Top/Golden Harvest and some more that I can't seem to remember.

Probably freshman. If you recall the photo of the five Elements of Harmony that Twilight showed us in the old yearbook, Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity and Pinkie all looked around the CMC's age in that photograph, which AJ reffered to as the 'Freshman Fair' or some such.

Maybe it's a school where, Middle and High are connected?? It's possible that they're in sixth, while the Mane six are Juniors.

 

Also why do we assume the mane six are in their 20s?? It could be that ponies and humans just age differently. And in Equestria they're still in their mid-teens, but have already graduated. 

 

The education in Equestria is rather questionable. They rely on magic for most of their problems. Even the most advanced piece of equipment featured in the show, the Super-Cider-Squeezy-6000, ran on Unicorn magic. So it's not unlikely they just have inferior education.

Either the CMC, DT, SS, Snips, and Snails are all in a gifted program, or they're really short freshmen. I think their ages had to be modified into the human world, along with Cherilee, most background characters, and the Mane 6 themselves. Or, like Greed said, it's a Middle and High School. But then, I think, we'd see more of the students the CMC's age.
