Have you ever experienced racism?

As an ethnic minority ( Mexican American) I have experienced some racism forehand in real life. Also my skin is not even brown it's a little tan but not a lot but I do have that hispanic look with a moustache and black hair. Anyway everytime I walk into anywhere majority white the people always give me a somewhat menacing look, even the little kids do the same thing. It's not that obvious but the look in their eyes look angry. I dont even live in the south, I live in Chicagoland and It's supposed to be a liberal and ethnically diverse area. I know the majority of white people are not racist but racism seems to be more common in the older genarations. Anyway have guys ever experienced racism(even if you're white).

As a german living in Germany, well... not really.

Depending on where I lived I got verbally (and physically, a bit) assaulted for being German, during the earlier school time, mainly by turkish kids...

Nothing like real racism, though, and I´d say it isn´t too big of a thing over here anymore. I know many colored (political correctness?) people, friends of mine who are completely accepted, if someone is being racist he gets angry looks, at the very least. That goes mainly for the educated parts of the society, there are always guys who are just radical, racist, dumb and more like it...

But they are a minority, and that makes me glad to know.

Oh god yes. I'm black. Go to a dominant white school where most kids are stuck up and ignorant. I have the characteristics of a black you might say. Being able to run fast or reach up to a 10 foot vertical and still be capped white because I do t really like rap music and prefer techno and euro beats as well as Nintendo.

Racism directed at me, no. But I've experienced racial abuse towards others before, and I didn't act kindly.

On my vacation to West Virginia, we went to a rest stop. And while I was walking around the building, I noticed an african american teen crying while talking to some individuals. Racist terms were thrown around, and the group dispersed after almost a minute. I bought the kid a sandwich and continued on my way to the next stop with my family. but in retrospective I should have stood up for that kid. What happened really irritated me and left me pissed of for most of my vacation. But my social anxiety prevents me from getting into possible sticky situations. What a loser thing to do on my part.

Kind of sort of for me, I was the only white kid and female in my class (I was in the ese program it was a small group of about 20 kids). There was allot of things that they would say without even knowing or care that I was sitting right next to them.

Hahaha, no i can't say i have, rather the opposite, most foreign people i meet (mostly americans as of now) are all interested in where i am from. Sometimes they say they love my accent when i speak english to them, and that's when they'll ask where I'm from :) Other then that i have perhaps witnessed a bit racism, but we're fairly open minded in Norway, especially In the part of the country where i live. Near the main state/city of sorts, Oslo, it's much worse from what I've heard, and I'm glad i don't live there ^_^

Not quite. I was bullied by other kids when I was in junior high in Sicily because I was by far the most white and blond, but particularly because I was Italian-American and therefore not quite Sicilian like the other kids. Not really sure it counts as racism since it was more of a cultural and nationalistic shunning than anything.

In the UK colored is politically incorrect (and dissliked by the black people I know) and calling them black is the accepted term

People (ironically the black people I know do this the most) make the odd racist joke or comment, but it's not like proper racism just a but of joking around.

Of course there are a few people I know of that are really racist, but no one listens to them or takes note of what they say and they get ignored by the majority of people or confronted in the odd occasion (but that all there looking for in the end).

Apparently, I actually live in the most racially diverse area of the United States, so I don't see a whole lot of racism other than when I hear people make racist jokes, but those are just jokes lol

I'm originally from England, so I get a bit of it from time to time-however when I first came over I was passed up on a couple of jobs I applied for in favor of Americans who were far less qualified than I was. When I asked about it, I was told to 'Fucking sue us limey'. It didn't really bother me-rather it saved me from a working environment that I would no doubt have hated, because if they were that way toward me, I can't imagine how they would have been toward others who weren't the same cast as them.

I grew up in a very culturally diverse neighborhood in London-and I have to say that I didn't have the experience of separation that others have had-I don't remember ever looking around the room and saying 'there's a black guy, there's a Pakistani, there's a Hispanic', it was always 'there's Tom, there's Fred, there's John'. We were all just people.

I haven't experienced racism myself, but I've seen it happen to others. Mostly in a joke form though. The joke racism that I remember the most was a group of my friends calling some Welsh kid, also in the group of friends a "sheep shagger". When it was his birthday, some of the friends gave him an inflatable sheep with a small hole in the rear end as a present.

@,

I've moved your thread to the General Discussion section, as it wasn't related to the brony fandom, as topics in the Sugarcube Corner section must be.

Just a reminder to all that even though this thread is about times when you've experienced racism, please don't include any racist slurs or harsh profanity that you've been on the receiving end of in your posts. Remember that this site is frequented by many younger members. Thank you.

Yeah, I guess. As a half-canadian, half-welsh male people either keep calling me a "sheep shagger" or discriminate against me for my Canadian accent. I usually ignore it but it can get to me sometimes and it does make me feel kinda crappy. Though racism is the least of my worries for being bullied for, most people discriminate against me because of my disability.

Well, I wouldn't call it racism but since I follow the old nordic religion and wear my hammer outside of my clothes I get alot of people who get angry at me thinking I'm a antichrist or satanist, whatever they call it. It has gotten me into some bad situations in some more christian states or facilities I've visited, like when my grandma died the preacher there tried constantly to kick me out because he thought the hammer was a upside down cross and then didn't want a 'savage' like me to attend. Would that be considered racism, being called a savage just for following an old religion?

As an American living in Canada, people hate me because of my American race. People call me 'merican. They don't understand my culture. Serioulsy no I haven't. I have worked and went to school with people from all over the world. I think people make judgements based on attitude and actions more than race.

This is my new signature.

I'm Mexican American , I've gotten crap from other Mexicans. They accuse me of being white washed because I have really pale skin and because I speak English properly. I'm also a bit of a geek so they'll tell me things like "stupid nerd". Because I'm an atheist, I've also been accused of being a Satanist even though I'm not, and I've told them already. It's like I can't be a damn American for 20 minutes without someone accusing of betraying my own kind, the nerve of some people.

I live in a small all white town about an hour south of the diverse Minneapolis. In my small white town everyone is pretty much white, and has German or Irish ancestry. There are only a few black kids, and Asian kids. We all get along just fine. People make racist jokes, not out of hate, but because they find them funny.  At least in my town. I've never experienced racism (thank god). I can't even comprehend it. Why would someone hate on someone else because of skin color? What? Literally, what? *Facepalm*

I really have nothing against white people just the ones that are racist and think they are superior for the color of their skin. I hang out with white people and chat with them online. But it seems there is a lot of racism on the internet, because when I said I was an american some white guy told me " NO you're just a sick B***** and he told me to get out of the country. First off, I'd like to ask, why are people of different ethnic backgrounds titled as "minorities"? How, exactly, are they the "minority"? This world is filled with different ethnic groups, and America is composed of all kinds! It's just a silly title that shouldn't exist.

Anyway, I, personally, haven't experienced racism. It's not as terribly common with us English/Irish folk. Though, out where I live, there are several people who are prejudice against people of a different ethnicity than their own. I was walking with my friend - who happened to be black - one day, and we passed by this lady's yard. They were having a garage sale, (or something) and they had a TV sitting in the yard. When she saw me and my friend walk by, she yelled something along the lines of, "You be'er not touch this 'ere TV, ya' n*****." That probably wasn't the exact quote, but I know for a fact that she called my friend the 'N world'.

There are also many people who sport the confederate flag around here. It's not necessarily a racial thing, but many people use it for those intentions. Makes me sick, honestly.

i experienced racism once in my life.

i am a 17  year old white guy living in the netherland, and i got harrased by a group of around 6 african amerikans.

they called me stuff like "whitey" and "racist fake n**ger". (both translated from dutch to english, so they may sound a bit weird...

they eventually knocked me down and stole my wallet and my phone, guess i was lucky they stopped kicking when they found the stuff they where looking for.

i did manage to kick one of them in the balls before i went down tough :P

Its weird to see most of people answering are white that have experienced racism. I wasn't expecting that, I was expecting the occasional post from a minority saying they were bullied by the majority in their country

Many times actually.  I used to be outed at one of my old schools for being one of the only white(well white-ish) kids at school.  Some of the teachers would actually look the other way when my other classmates would bully me or any one else when it was based on skin-colour.  Those same teachers would also overlook any of the students that weren't their same skin-colour, favouring students of their skin-colour only and would talk down at the rest of us as if we were dumber than everyone else, whenever they bothered to accept that we existed.  A different school that I went to had a teacher that was in the KKK(this was a rumour at the time but he was actually very open about it) working there and he would give non-white students a hard time, he would give the kids that were mixed an even harder time.  Strangely enough, I still get called a, "cracker" from time to time at my college, I swear, my hearing is too good for my good...This one job I applied for I marked myself as Native American(I'm white/Native-american but I prefer being considered native since I relate more with that side of the family) and when I got to the interview the guy was confused, "But you don't look like a Native American."  I always get this one whenever I mention this to people, it gets very tiring after hearing this over a dozen times...dry.png   Oh and the, "aren't natives always drunk in the gutter?" comment too...  I used to live in Canada and currently live in the States, whenever I get crap for being from a certain country I find it's better to turn it into a joke.  It really is silly that people are going to get touchy over something as simple as where you just happen to be from...

Living in Toronto, I've been lucky enough to go to a school full of all kinds of ethnicity and skin colors. Me I'm a South Asian, so my skin color is brown, though for a South Asian I'm one of the lighter ones, and at most some other darker South Asian poked fun at me for not being as dark as them, but aside form that I've been free. I do know that occurs though and my cousin who lives in Bangladesh actually has a black friend who is regularly abused there for his skin color as the people there are unfortunately not as accepting being a third world country and all, its sad really, and I'm proud of my cousin for doing his best to befriend and protect him. It really hurts me to think that people get racially abused, even if it isn't my ethnicity. Maybe the a friendly joke every now and again, but actual racists are just downright disgusting to me and is one of the things I hate most about humans
