Hey guys, I'm kinda' stuck on what to think of, the next gen consoles.

So, just tell your thoughts on the future generation. Xbox One, or PS4?

I wish more people would call me ,"sir"....without adding, "You're making a scene".

I'm getting a new PC later this year, so the systems I'm getting are PC, 3DS and Wii U and then next year I'm getting the Xbone Xbox One. I never really liked Sony in all honesty...

personally my vote is for the wiiu. its the only console that will have any sonic games, so I'm sold =P

between the xbox1 and the ps4, I'm leaning towards the ps4. even without the bad press the xbox1 has had, I've never been an xbox fan. also the 500 dollar price tag makes it less appealing

between the ps4 and xbox1, I believe that the ps4 will have a stronger start simply because it hasn't had to wade through all these negative repercussions and backtrack on what they initially marketed about it.

on a more serious note about the wiiu, it's gonna get a lot of exclusive games this holiday season and even into next year. that, ultimately will make moving consoles considerably easier

OOOOOH this is my kinda thread :3

Lets see........

I am a huge collector, so I'm gonna get both systems for the hell of it. Now about the systems:

PS4: This is the system I am looking forward to the most. I mean just look at the ps3!! It has evolved into a great system. The graphics and performance of the system is outstanding! and on top of that, there making it BETTER! And the ps4 is getting games like Kingdom Hearts 3!!!!! OMG I can't wait <3

XboxOne: Eh, the Xbox360 was pretty good, minus the ring of death I got fixed ALOT. But the Xbox360 does have superior graphics to ps3, and the performance is alright, so I am also looking forward to the XboxOne. I just hope the problems on the Xbox360 don't evolve onto the XboxOne

I think that the future generation of gaming is starting evolve once again, as time goes by which is something that we basically see every generation of gaming that starts to come at each decade.

Basically, I think that PS4 is really impressing me but I also think that the Xbox One might generate some people to buy it but not enough to generate millions of people to buy it. So, expect another huge war between the consoles.

My opinion...is that retro games are far more captivating than anything these next-gen consoles will be able to crap out. And before you ask, 'Gorilla' is the brand of super glue that I used to adhere my nostalgia goggles to my face. Firm hold, I highly recommend it.

In all seriousness, I think I'm going to stay away from the newer consoles, for the most part. Not to sound like the everyday PC-gamer elitist, but my experience with PC games has been far more pleasant in recent years than with console games, so for the time being, I'm sticking with Steam. However, if I had a bunch of money to blow, I'd probably check out the PS4 over the Xbox One. I've just heard so much SHIT about the latter that I'd rather take my chances with Sony.

As for the Wii-U...I just can't get over the "tablet" controller. If I wanted to worry about two different screens while playing Nintendo games, I'd just as soon play my DS. At least with that, both screens are within close proximity to one another. But the prospect of having to worry about the screen on my lap and the TV across the room...yeah, that just don't sit well with me.

And yes, I know the Wii-U has a "pro controller" that's more built more traditionally, but I still don't know. Where would such a controller leave the games that bank on the use of both screens? Being able to plug in the pro controller on such games seems like it'd defeat the purpose. Still, if the pro controller works with every Wii-U game that I would conceivably want to play, then I might consider getting the console, if for no other reason than the new Smash Bros.

PC is and always shall be the glorious gaming master race.

Personally I don't plan on getting any of them, PC is and always will be the only platform for me. Unfortunately that rules out any console exclusive games, but I suck with a controller anyway. I barely get by with a mouse and keyboard.

I've been part of the glorious PC gaming master race for about a decade now, and I don't see any signs of slowing that down, but I do plan on getting a Wii U early next year. I would have gotten one now, but weddings and honeymoons are expensive as hell.

Out of the Xbox One and PS4, I'm swinging PS4. It has a distinct hardware advantage in several areas, and looks like it'll have better exclusives for it too. Though honestly, none of the exclusives interest me to the point where I'd buy a system simply for them; I'm actually interested in very few next-gen games. Metal Gear Solid V will likely be the reason I finally decide to make the jump and pick a side.

As far as Eighth Gen goes, though, Wii U's my choice, hands down.

Honestly feel like the PS4 and Xbone are going to be glorified PS3s and 360s, the PS4 doesn't have many captivating exclusives outside of The Order: 1866 and Knack, but while the Xbone have more appealing exclusives, the fact that they even considered their previous policies(that they're gonna fix by patch mind you) + that mandatory Kinect still makes me very hesitant on the One. And like the PS3 and the 360, I'm expecting them to have the exact same libraries minus a few exclusives. The only reason I'd go for the PS4 over the Xbone is because imo, their first party games are much more memorable

As for the Wii U, its going to be the underdog this gen, but it'll probably be the first one I get mainly because it has X, it has Smash 4, it has all of Nintendo's first parties, Platinum(Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 ftw), and Suda 51 said that No More Heroes 3 will be there (before you ask, it's hasn't been officially announced yet)

Its fricken 2013.  I don't want another 10 years of shooters with slightly revamped graphics.  I'm sick of these games already.  Where's the virtual shit?  Look at the date people!  Xbox one was just a pathetic attempt to give Microsoft more control over its customers gaming lives.  343 took a shit on Halo, made the Chief into a talk-a-lot tool and Cortana a PMS freak.  They took in so much fanfic and shit and ruined the halo franchise by trying to integrate these poorly written pile of crap novels into the campaign lore.  Chief used to be the cool silent type, but now he's a bitch.  Also, how the FUCK did his armor change on the Frigate?   WTF 343.  Also, the forerunners we're supposed to be sophisticated and not very beast like.  (Given that we share genetic code with them and that they had the kindness to preserve all of life before the firing of the Halo array.) ... That was the corniest campaign I had ever played in my life.  343 ruined Halo lore, (which is a huge disappointment considering the trailers looked awesome) and as far as I'm concerned Halo 4 is not canon.  They're trying to make the Halo franchise into a new Star wars, which it will never be.

And so many bitches hate reach?  Reach and Halo 3 for life.

Halo 4's multiplayer is fun, but there are so many try-hards because all of the casual players go to BLOPS2 for some reason and this water's down the fun level.  Spartan customization are nice, although some changes are menial and a waste of space and time.  Loadouts are ok.  I really enjoy Promethean vision and the occasional thruster pack.  DMR has too much prominence on the battle field and needs to be nurfed.  Carbine is nice for support, but needs to be revamped.  I liked having health displayed in Reach.  I don't know why they removed that feature.

Oh yeah, 343 also ruined multiplayer by having headshots count just as much as body shots.  This makes the game significantly less competitive and less fun.  Headshot's aren't any better until shields are down.  (343 chose lore consistency over gameplay enjoyability).

Even though Ps3 seems like just another PlayStation with better graphics, I may consider buying one for Destiny, Bungie's new game.

It seems the next generation is really liking this whole entire, "Connectivity" kind of thing. Merging multiplayer with singleplayer, adding in the capability to use multiple devices for different gameplay elements. All of this sounds kind-of nice but the next generation has one big drawback in my opinion.

Accessibility, games these days seem to something anyone can just sit down and play. They have a lot of handicap features so anyone can be above-average at a game (Which makes you about average) but it seems that anyone can be a gamer. Sure that sounds all nice and stuff, but games are slowly becoming more and more like movies at that cost. Sit back and relax and watch the action rather than having to focus directly in on the action.

Just my two cents on the situation.

I'm a bit mixed on the next-generation consoles. For one, it means that consoles will finally be much closer to the PC and porting will be easier since the PC, PS4 and XB1 will all use the same x86-64 architecture instead of the outdated PowerPC architecture used last generation (although Nintendo is still using it, even using the same variant the GameCube used... dated to 1997.) However, at the same time, it means that if the generation lasts too long again it'll only accomplish the same thing the PS3 and Xbox 360 did, hold back gaming another near-decade (the PC is capable of things the PS360 can only dream of doing, and has been for years, it's just that nobody but dedicated PC devs took advantage of it to make the PC versions "on par" with the console versions... fuckin' hell.)

I have a PS4 on preorder and might get a Wii U when good games reach that. Primarily though, I'll be sticking with the PC. I personally can't stand controllers anymore and prefer the keyboard and mouse whenever possible. The Wii U and its giantly awkward tablet controller with its 6.2" FWVGA (that is, 854x480, apparently they couldn't pack 1280x720 and a true 16:9 aspect ratio onto it) won't sway this opinion favorably towards controllers over keyboards.

I don't care about the generations, I'm just excited about all the amazing games coming like Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy XV, Shin Megami Tensei IV (might already be out though), Persona 5 (domain name registered, it's coming eventually! ), Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (gotta play the first one still though, so hard to find cuz it was only officially sold at Gamestop! D: ), Murdered: Soul Suspect, Watch Dogs (and pending games since Ubisoft has explicitly said they don't see the point in standalone games, which means there WILL be sequels)

Consoles and generations are a means to an end, it's all about the games.

That's pretty much how it is with me.

Thanks to Nintendo botching the 3DS launch, I have much higher standards now.  I didn't get the WiiU at launch and don't intend to get the PS4 at launch.  As for the Xbone...

Ha ha, and: HA!

I have two rules about buying a console (barring some deal-breaking DRM nonsense).

  1. I must be able to afford it (duh).
  2. It must have at least seven games I'm interested in (not that I'll buy them all at once).

The WiiU will meet my game count rule before Christmas, so I'll put it on my list.  The PS4 hasn't announced enough titles that interest me, but some of the new IP might change my mind.  I also count games I can download for free with PS+ in my game count; because, if I don't like it, I lose nothing.  Nowhere near enough games for the Xbone interest me.  And a lot of the best "exclusives" are from third party developers that could easily pull their support, if the console fails predictably.  EA has already backed out on making "Plants vs. Zombies" and "Titanfall" exclusives.  And if you have such bad PR that Electronic Arts wants to cut all ties with you, you've got problems.

I dunno, from what I've seen the visuals of next-gen consoles don't look a whole lot better than current gen to me, if anything the best thing the higher specs are probably going to bring are more consistent higher resolutions(1080 p) and frame rates(60 fps) which seems to be what most people are excited about from them. I might get a PS4 because the support behind it seems promising, and I want a Wii U as well because of the exclusive games coming to it, but I will probably end up getting a PC sometime as well(I need to get one sometime anyway, that and and Wii U are at least guarenteed from my end I believe. :)

Well, each console has gotten a pretty big boost in computing power when compared to their predecessors. Utilizing that computing power in order to bring better graphics is entirely up to each developer, always has been, but now, developers aren't as restricted when it comes to making game design decisions.

Battlefield 4 comes to mind. Battlefield 3 was only able to support 24 players on consoles, while PC players got the full 64-player experience. This wasn't because DICE wanted console play to be gimped, but rather, because the limits of outdated hardware gave them no other choice. With Battlefield 4 on next-gen consoles, the quality of the graphics doesn't see much of an improvement, but the gameplay does as a result of better hardware; 64-player gameplay is a possibility.

I think stuff like that is what we're going to see with next-gen games. They may not look much better than X360 and PS3 games, but they'll definitely be playing better.

XboxOne: The games look good, but how is Microsoft going to change the "online only" DRM when it is scheduled to be released in about 5 months or so which in terms of console development is barely even the blink of an eye? They gave a big fat screw you to their consumers and are now having to backtrack which dosen't instill alot of confidence in me.

PS4: Microsoft and Nintendo really need to pay attention to what Sony has been doing lately. They have announced some pretty good launch titles and have done a great job selling their system while avoiding Microsoft's pitfalls. They have shown that they are actually listening to gamers which means that I will probably get the PS4 as the PS3 is actually my favorite of the current generation. One thing Sony should be slapped for is not putting enough games on the Playstation Vita and PORTS OF PS3 GAMES DO NOT COUNT. Seriously Nintendo is whupping Sony's ass in handheld sales because though the Vita has potential it has no fragging games, how do they expect people to buy it when it has no games?

Wii U: I have loved Nintendo for a long time, I grew up with you guys but seriously when are you guys going to get your act together? The Wii was huge despite its technological disadvantage because it tapped into the casual gaming market while still bringing out some good games that also appealed to their loyal base. Nintendo to their credit though the 3DS has had a lackluster start it has made up for lost time with an impressive lineup of downloadable and retail titles. But the Wii U lineup so far has for the most part been a total snoozefest, yes there are a few titles which I am looking forward to but the Wii U has been out for almost a year and it has nowhere near the amount of games that it should.

Good PC, Oculus Rift and the Virtuix Omni. I need no console!

If I had to choose? I actually really like the Wii U. Always preferred Xbox before but the Xbox one looks abysmal. PS4 looks ok but like I said, sticking with my PC where I can rig up stupid extras and mod games to use them. ;)

Never quite forgotten.

I'm going to waste a lot of money, for something I could get for free on an emulator the generation after.I also think Gamestop will become even worse somehow. Also I'm a ps3 gamer and I think the ps4 will sell better than xbox, More people usually make communities more troublesome at least I think thats' what it did to xbox

I need a 3ds for Pokémon X and Y. There are other 3ds games I want to, like the Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem: Awakening games. I'd like to get a PS4 and enjoy some 64 player Battlefield 4 on it. That'd be pretty awesome.
