movies/tv Avatar: The Legend of Korra - Book 2: Spirits

I love the avatar series, and I was dying to see more of Aang when Korra first came up. I enjoy the setting very much. Metal bending, and a reference to what happened to the world of martial art back then, when Western boxing came to Asia. Actually I hate what happened in the real history during that time, but seeing how boxing and traditional martial art are combined in the movie made me glad.

Korra's kinda disappointing though. Already mastering three elements when the movie started. I mean, what else she could fight for in the movie? Then Amon showed up. Interesting. Banishing bending abilities. Keep watching. Blood bender? Interesting, even though a kind of overpowered. Then Korra lost her bending. I was SOOOOOOOOOOO excited at that moment. I saw some possibilities of how the story could continue. She could spend the next books trying to relearn bending, etc. It wouldn't be so bad, but yeah, Aang showed up (which really pleased me) and restored her bending. What? Is that all? I mean, what would you do with the second book? The third?

I'm still waiting for Book 2 though.

...Korra isn't in any movies...And if the universe is kind, it'll stay that way. Don't need more Shyamalan horrors spoiling the world...

I'm definitely interested. I for one thought that The Legend of Korra was every bit as good as Avatar: The Last Airbender in a lot of ways, and it's definitely a worthy successor.

I'm a little bit mixed on the steam punk setting. My favorite thing about ATLA was the world adventure feel that it had. LoK has a fixed setting, which is fine for what the show is trying to do, but I feel a lot of charm is lost in the process, especially when that gorgeous animation could showcase a lot of different environments. That's a minor complaint though. I felt LoK had better action scenes and a tighter story, given that there was no room for filler episodes. There's just as much emotional impact in the new series, and that's one of my favorite aspects. My only major complaint is the forced, cheesy romance. I don't feel as if Korra and Mako's relationship really felt all that natural or well-developed, and it gets downright awkward at times. Asami and Bolin played second fiddle to Korra and Mako respectively, and it's kinda sad to see their feelings not be reciprocated. I'm not a fan of romance stories to begin with, but love triangles are just a no-no for me.

Well, enough rambling. It's nice to know we're getting more episodes soon. Also, it has been confirmed that there will be a third and fourth book for Korra, both being 13 episodes each. :3

I'm really glad/excited/sad that the final season is on its way for Legend of Korra. I have been a big fan of the Avatar series since I began watching S1 TLA when I was a teen. I really liked the premise of the show and it was really cool so I held onto it. When I heard about a new Avatar series I was extremely happy that Nickolodeon brought it back. Although I wish we could have seen the adventures of Older Aang, but that is moot.

I am sad that this will be the final season of LOK but since it was only suppose to be a one season show in the first place, I really can't complain now can I?

The trailer looks awesome, can't wait. I liked the first season very much and this looks quite promising. This is the only good show Nick has though, hope this season turns out great too, and that the whole series will live up to The Last Airbender in the end, it's had a great start. :)

Second you with that. The romance is a bit cheesy, and is too sudden. I also feel bad for Bolin, and everything about the romance makes Mako look like a jerk.

September is near!

This isn't the final season tho. Nick confirmed there will be two more after this one due to the huge success of the series. Thankfully

When did they announce this? because I heard that they were only adding one more season because of it doing so well. If they are adding a couple more seasons then I will be ecstatic.

Here:

Since they got approval for an additional 26 eps, they split it up between two seasons (or books, whichever you prefer). Which only means there's gonna be more awesomeness :33

Yet, the book ended without any clue about what will happen next, or at least something which makes us wonder and curious. In ATLA, every book has strong endings. We can have many interesting conflicts if Korra isn't so great and talented. Aang's story is interesting because he needed to learn the elements during a great war, and other conflicts. There's no such war in Korra. Amon was interesting, but I got disappointed when he simply died and Korra got her bending back immediately. It's just my personal opinion that Korra isn't as challenging as ATLA.

Those are fair complaints, but none of it means that we should sit through Korra learning all the elements. We got a snippet of that with air, and now we can sit through new stories. What happened after the last chapter in TLA is interesting, and I would have liked to see an animated series about it. They did make a comic series about that, but I didn't find it a great read and gave up fairly quickly. However, if Korra had to start where Aang did, I would have been disappointed. It's nice to see what else they can do with the avatar once they've learnt all the elements.

I personally think that Korra is more challenging to be honest. We have a lot more politics involved, a much more complex world, more adult themes, and the way they portrayed energy bending is incredibly disturbing. People who Amon used it on were depicted as practically crippled, and that's not even mentioning the whole blood bending thing.

My issue with the Steampunk thing is that it was very forced, and executed poorly. Steampunk is a genre you have to do properly, otherwise it looks kinda lame.

I also agree with a romance thing. I think it felt so forced because they only had 12 episodes to work with, and every series has to have romance in it or something. They didn't know they'd get to make 3 more seasons after.

Aye. The political conflicts made me racing and surprised many times. It was great. We couldn't wait for Korra to learn the other three elements like Aang did, indeed, but I would like to see if Korra lost her bending to Amon and spent the next book trying to be an Avatar again. I mean, look at the possibilities.

May I have the link to the comic by the way?

To be fair, that wasn't energybending, but bloodbending through and through. Tarlok described it as such and Konietsko then explained Amon used bloodbending to block the meridians through which chi in a person's body flows. It makes sense when you realize waterbending is used for healing and helps chi flow more easily through these meridians. It was definitely Bloodbending, but I think it's likely this technique descended from a form of energybending. I hope to see more of that in general throughout book 2.

EDIT: Does anyone know who this beast is? I would almost say he's Korra's dad but he doesn't really look like him either.

THREAD NECRO TIME!

I went with a group of people to a friend's house to watch the season 2 premiere, and I quite enjoyed it. I'm actually rather glad that they got this little story out of the way fairly quickly so that it can get on with what looks like is going to be the main plot.

Although...

Water.
More Water.
The two tribes lived together in peace, but then the Northern Water Tribe attacked, and everything changed.  :P

On a side note, this is the best frame out of the entire series thus far.

I just finished watching the first two episodes and it's pretty interesting so far. I totally knew there was something off about that Northern water tribe guy.

And what's with that avatar statue that's caught Jinora's eye? Hmmmm...

I quite enjoyed the new episode, and I like where things are going. The story arc itself seems fairly simple, but it has a lot of potential for interesting development.

The only issue I really had with this episode was Korra. Christ, she's dumb. mellow.png

I have to say that so far it isn't bad, but there were definetly things I didn't like. But the major pro was the conflict with Korra's dad's backstory, and the whole evil uncle thing. It was great.

However, I'm sad to see that Osami and Bolin have really minor roles it seems. Their "adventure" literally just seemed like filler to fill up an hour, and Osami didn't even show up for the spirit fight!

Also, the fire ferrets broke up. Just no.

And Korra seemed to be on her period or something in this episode. Literally, she was really bi-polar the whole time, and had no judgement. She wasn't the Korra we know and love, and it really made me angry.

This was the worse Season of the franchise. Deception and betrayal continues to be a reoccurring theme.

The writer's logic, sense, and reason has been flawed from the get go. Mako is a "glorified snake" that symbolizes the illogical aspects of the show's writers. He can bypass rules, law, ethics, and morality. Small details and past can be disregarded. He can be rude to anyone he wants.

Why were Unalaq and Vaatu so... generic? AMON AND TARRLOK ALL THE WAY!!!

They became a usual cliche power hungry villian in the end. Even Korra and Unalaq family relationship disappears into the good vs. evil.

The ending felt really dumb when Korra decides to leave the portals open because of taking Unalaq's ideas to mind over Wan. She's jumping ahead in making the decision without consulting either people or spirits, by forcing them to coexist.
