Brand New to Brony Music Scene - My first two songs

Luna Jax

Recommended Posts

Hey every pony! I'm Josh, and am brand new to the brony social world (you could say that I'm just coming out of the MLP closet!) I love to write and record music so I though of doing that in pony form.

My first song is called Luna's Dreams. It's about how Luna felt during her thousand years in the moon.

My second is about when Derpy and The Doctor finally go their separate ways. Here's Ditzy's Heartbreak.

I'd love to have some pony produce my music if any pony is interested. I welcome feedback, critiques, compliments, and gifts ;).

(Whenever I stumble upon these "new to brony music" peeps I'm always under the impression that it's gonna be some real low quality totally noob-ish music. XD)

You've got some stuff goin' here, brah. I'm really digging these two tracks. So yeah, I'mma do a couple quick-like reviews of 'em.

"Luna's Dreams" there is a quality track, my friend. I like the folky sound to it, and it almost reminds me of Jars of Clay, which is in no way a bad thing. Good song. Would be in my collection if there were an mp3 download. :|

"Ditzy's Heartbreak" is the inferior track in my opinion. For one, the guitar's track is a little too quiet. I'm, um, also not too big a fan of the lyrics or story behind it. That's just me, though. :P

If there's one thing I could suggest, it would be to write your songs in a more accessible manner. Like... make it listenable to not only bronies but also people... like... not related to the fandom. Make it universal. Like da MandoPony. :D

Of course that's just my opinion. I'd personally just love to see it this way. :P

EDIT: Oh, and also since I see you're looking for producers, I'm not working on any original stuff right now, so if you ever need production help, I'm yer man. :D

Here's the .mp3 for ya!

I may be new to writing brony music but definitely not new to writing music. I love to participate in FAWM every year (February Album Writing Month fawm.org.)

Thanks for the quick reviews! I understand what you mean about making the songs appeal to more than just bronies. I find that hard to do 'cause I'm more of a storyteller, but, I'll see what I can do.

As far as production goes, I've got some more songs in the works but I've never been on this end of the production workflow. Do you want me to just send you a rough track once i have lyrics and melody nailed down? Also, what DAW do you use? I work in ProTools 10 & 11.

Thanks for the mp3, man!

DAW-wise, when writing original music, I use LMMS (Linux Multimedia Studio. It's for Windows too!) for MIDI reasons and KRISTAL Audio Engine for sequencing. LMMS crashes all the time when I try to do everything in it, so I went with the second best option. :P

As for how the production's gonna go, I'd definitely prefer that way. Get the stuff nailed down, send me the rough tracks, and so on.

So whenever ya need anything, just send me the stuff via PM here or whatever you prefer to do. :D
