This thought has been making me think really hard for the past few days and I think I should get your guys ideas on it.

Now back in the 70's and 80's Pen and Paper Role-players were the most ridiculed Fandom. Now I think it's safe to say that our Fandom is on par with that, simple MLP avatars and names are enough to set off flame-war. Now of-course this wont last forever and it will die down in the coming years, but what's next?

What kind of Fandom do you guys pictured being the main one to be ridiculed in the future?

I'm thinking the next ridiculed Fandom will be sort-of founded off what Bronies started to pave which sort of was the idea of, "Girly doesn't always mean bad." But in some completely different show, maybe not even one intended for younger audiences.

Thoughts?

It is hard to say, the tabletop RPG thing you mentioned as well as many other fandoms play into the whole nerdy basement dwelling man child stereotype and that has been used as an arugment against bronies among many others but I am yet to see any other fandom actually not only be accused of that and a few other things fandoms have typically been accused of but also of homosexuality and pedophilia. You really don't get more over the top than accusing someone of being a damn pedophile for watching a cartoon, it just speaks to the fears and insecurities of many of these haters.

Then again the very concept of fandoms in general has become mainstream so MLP is a bit of an outliar because it is a "girls show" which challenges a lot outdated gender roles and openly mocks the streotype that girly=bad. If any future fandom takes this kind of heat and ridicule it will probably be because it challenges some precocieved notions in society much like MLP and those notions might not necessarily be gender roles but perhaps something else entirely.

idk what will be the next controversy. but so far, it's usually a double standard. a girl watches a "guy's show"? eh, it's cool. but when i guy watches a "girl's show"? we are seen as homosexual or messed up in the head or something.

Easy. Another show that the outside world doesn't think is acceptable to watch will come along, and a fandom will form for that. The fandom will be the ones made fun of, and probably, in about ten year's time, people will completely forget about Bronies.

I don't know what Pen and Paper Role-players are. That shows how old I am. :-P

Back on topic. I'd imagine there will be some fandom that will be seen as unusual and people will hate on that. Each decade there was a fandom that was ridiculed. First it was Star Trek, then Star Wars, then Furries, then anime fans, and so on. It seems like bronies don't get as much hate as they used to. Maybe that's a sign that something else is holding the haters' attention or that people are more used to it, the fandom is a decade old anyway.

Haters will always find something else to hate on, so I'm certain that there will be a fandom that will get a ton of hate in the future, just not sure which fandom that will be.

*totally not up to any shenanigans* :ithastolookpretty:
