Reactions on the new "Smile HD" video

I see a whole lot of negative comments about this video... yeah it was a little over the top with gore but Does No One Else Watch or Appreciate DBZ!?!? Smile HD Was Very Well put together with an Awesome premise and it had a warning before the video started for the "Faint of Heart" so the people that felt so wouldn't have to indulge. Well I would say we are all adults here but lets be honest, probably not most of us, so with all that said, now that I'm thinking about it, maybe it should have stayed on youtube instead of being integrated in this site (which it isn't, now that I'm thinking about it more) It's just a discussion. But everyone has there own opinion so, hey, I guess Love and Tolerate it! lol

I didn't really like it. At all. I can understand why people would like to see that but the looks on the poor ponies faces before dying was too much for me.

You know, I find it a little sad that so many will write this off as terrible because it's violent and therefore too vulgar for their refined tastes. I'm totally okay with people not liking it because of the gore and whatnot, but try and be a little less snooty when stating your reasons.

 

 

Sorry, but I don't think ponies are that sacred and I don't think artists should stifle their creativity by limiting themselves to only "neutral, friendly, and innocent" ideas. If this is where MisterDavey's passion lies, then there really is no better place for his skill to be spent. But I guess that's just me not being worried about how this will affect our advertising to the outside world.

Yeah, this community is built on Love and Tolerance so that doesn't mean Love and Tolerate the things you necessarily agree with or like, it means Everything.

Yeah I shouldn't say "He could have made something amazingly awesome", cause he actually did make something amazingly awesome. And I don't have a problem with violence, nor am I offended, upset, or anything, hell I even enjoyed it quite a bit... I guess it's just like "When I got up this morning, watching Fluttershy's face melt off was not on my list of things to do today", lol   So yeah, I was shocked, which I'm sure was a big part of MrDavey's plan, haha.

I think, that animation is just not for everyone... There is people, that dislike it, just because it's gore.

In my opinion, animation is amazing and that irony (smile song and brutal killing) is just great.

 

But yes, there is one thing that I don't like about it and I think it's disgusting and nasty.

And that's when Fluttershy's face is melting... 

 

Also I thought (and hoped), that Fluttershy will defeat Pinkie.

I really do not understand how some people can enjoy making something like that.  I do admit,  I enjoy the song Rainbow Factory, but that is it! Well as we all know, murder is fun. For this reason, the video is fun. It sure made me smile.

 

The song was catchy, the animation was catchy, the blood was catchy.

Actually, by literal definition, bronies are simply fans of the show.

Their tastes in fan content honestly have nothing to do with being a brony on the whole.

They can be 'about' anything they want, as long as they still like/watch the show.

 

Some like to randomize and poke fun (webcomics & abridged series)

Some like to romanticize / sexualize (shipping & rule 34)

Some like to creepify and darken (grimdark & gore)

 

And some like to go completely nuts with shock value and cynicism, while still generating positive feedback for itself due to the humor and/or the animation.

 

^ Things like Smile HD and the .MOV series fit in that loose category.

 

We all have our own standards and tastes in art and animation, and it's up to every individual to decide them for themselves.

Personally, i enjoyed this video due to my love of violent anime/manga like DBZ, Berserk and Hellsing, but i totally get that some people feel uncomfortable with that kinda stuff.

I won't lie, throughout the whole video, I smiled, beginning, middle and end. That largely place smile on my face had never left. I really REALLY enjoyed it. I don't really care if stuff has grimdark or gore stuff in it. that doesn't bother me one bit, however that's not the reason I was smiling. I was smiling because of the sheer animation and quality. The music, the animation, everything about it was just brilliant. And come on guys, you gotta give the guy credit, he made the animation using Adobe Flash. To me, i think that takes alot of skill to create such a high quality video using that program. There was also that certain comedy charm to it, i mean of course it was dark comedy but still funny nonetheless. Like how Rarity's tombstone was apparently instantaneously created right after she had died. Everything was well in depth and well placed, also its amazing that in the video you can see that the animation actually works with the music placed within it. Such as when the song says "Beam, beam, beam", it says it as Pinkie Pie shoots the Kamehameha wave. And the moment after Rainbow Dash kicks pinkie in the head it goes dark and gloomy, just as the song gets to the part where it says "I know some days are dark and gloomy". It's just mind boggling and it also makes me wonder how long it took him to make this video. Also what was going through his mind while making this? We also can't forget about Foozogz contribution to this video, his music was just outstanding, the remix of the Smile song was so refreshing to hear. Foozogz did a great job making a high quality music for this animation. I hope for more from MisterDavie in the future. And I know everyone is entitled to there own opinions, not everyone will like this for obvious reasons, but that's just because they don't like this kind of stuff and I completely respect that. Anyway that was my thought on the video.

For some people, there applies a certain phrase that i've seen.

"The more innocent and pure something is, the more satisfying it is to corrupt it" or something like that.

 

Of course, that's a very poisonous and cynical point of view to have, but it still answers the "why" in some cases.

I'm not a gore/violence fan, so the video kinda just left me disturbed, but I do think it was a million times better than the cupcakes video simply because the visuals were really good, and the smile remix made a good background too.  When Fluttershy was beating up Pinkie, I felt like I was watching a fighting game.  Also, I wanted Flutters to win.  But my final impression is a quote from . . . Was it Seinfeld or Bruce Almighty?  Anyway: "Blood is supposed to stay in the body."

I didn't like Happy Tree Friends due to the humor when I was in high school.

I didn't like how this fandom overly creepy pasta'd the hell out of Pinkie Pie: it wasn't funny or original the first time, it's not funny or original the millionth time.

 

I didn't like SHED.MOV nor hotdiggedydemon's one-track-mind, /b/ tier humor and terrible art style, nor how it's tried to ruin Fluttershy or other characters 'just because'.

 

I don't like how the fandom feels the need to keep shoving down this sort of tripe everywhere.

 

I don't like this video and as soon as I saw WHAT was happening I just stopped, disliked the video, then exited.

 

...but no, it has to be almost everywhere I go now..and..I really wish people would stop.

 

Complain all you want about sexuality in the fandom (because rule 34 for things is everywhere on anything that has a fandom): I just don't get a kick or thrill out of seeing characters I hold dear being brutally murdered. There's no point to it, and excuse me if I must make a terrible pun but this guy's just a one trick pony: "Hate MLP, Bronies, or have a really fucked up sense of humor? Watch my shit!". There's no point to any of it.

 

I can watch something like this and not gain anything from it: what's the point of it? What's the message? Why do people put effort into animating crap like this? It has no artistic merit, it has no meaning, it is literally meaningless. Even the grimdark fanart I can at least respect when it's done all spooky-like or whatever: I just know it's not made for me but it has passion behind it.

 

But shit like this? No. I don't like it.

 

But because it's gore and violence, it gets shared on my Facebook, I see it on my Tumblr, and I've had to unfollow people or get into arguments with the friends that shared them to 'stop showing me this crap already'. The idea of ANY of the mane 6 getting brutally murdered makes me physically ill.

 

Mind you I am a man that enjoys Mortal Kombat 9, Metal Gear Rising, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Dragon Ball Z: i can handle violence on different levels. But on those things, it's handled properly. In the brony fandom however, it's just an excuse to look cool.

I had a friend who was decapitated by a flying horse kick, right before having his remains charred by a giant Spirit Bomb. Needless to say I found this video distasteful in the extreme. I'm absolutely appalled that someone would be so thoughtless as to produce something like this and try to pass it off as humor, when stuff like this happens every day and is nothing to laugh at. I will be writing MisterDavey a strongly-worded letter demanding an apology, not just for myself but for all others who have been affected by homicidal pink horses.

I think it was here where I heard about the new smile video. At first I thought it was just a new custom video done for the song. Started watching, liked the remix, was impressed with the animation, thought they were going in a different direction. Then the first minute kicks in. I probably said something along the lines of "OOOhhhh!!" and thought to myself "So it's THAT kind of video."

 

Despite the graphic violence, I was not offended and even watched it again. I also thought that Fluttershy looked even cuter with a nosebleed. Considered using it as my new profile pic. Not sure how that would go down with the mods.

 

Overall a well done video.

 

This now makes me wanna draw "Smile" Pinkie vs. Pinkamena. The gleefully psycopahtic mass murderer against the angst ridden ultra-violent sadist.

I clicked on it, not knowing what to expect.. I saw Pinkie Pie running happily towards her friends.
I then noticed the "HD" in the title, similar to that of "Cupcakes HD".. I then looked below the video and noticed the name of the video's creator.. Then before I knew it, Twilight's head was flying across the screen.

But still, I liked the Cupcakes HD, because I have a weird sense of humour, however this one didn't seem as joyously evil.. That is until I saw Fluttershy going all out on Pinkie Pie.

It was quite strange seeing my two favourite Ponies beating each other senseless, but at the same time, strangely hilarious.

 

I think I need help.

Hmm, this video kept showing up in my recommendations but I never bothered to watch it. I don't think much of videos that get promoted for no good apparent reason. Also the preview pic was creepy.

 

Now after watching it because of this thread, I once again just don't get why everyone portraits Pinkie Pie as a psychopathic maniac bent on killing every other pony. All of this just because of that cupcakes story published ages ago. I mean sure, there's nothing wrong with some fandom ideas here and there, even if it's something like cupcakes, but in my opinion, this whole cupcakes thing has become to much of a representation of who Pinkie Pie is within the fandom for my taste.

If someone were to have described the events of Smile HD to me prior to watching it, I'd have probably outright refused to even click on it from then on out. But having actually watched it on hype alone, I don't know why, but I thought it was great. o-o

 

I think the main reason for that is because it's so utterly different to anything we've seen before. It's unexpectedly zany, the hugeness of the grinning feels like something out of Adventure Time, and the amount of blood was a total surprise. All the other fan animations are either comedies or heartfelt stories/songs... so a huge, bloody brawl like that, coupled with the happy music and grinning from Pinkie, just bewildered me to the extent that I had to grin.

 

And now I feel like a douche for grinning at Pinkie killing others
