Do you really accept it? You're here trying to tell us that we shouldn't celebrate our sexuality and our differences because it might negatively impact other people's opinions of us.

Isn't this entire forum a negative thing by your logic? Aren't we, as bronies, just pushing other people to hate us more by celebrating something that makes us different?

You seem like you really want me to not be accepting. I am though, and while I love Elton John, I love him for the music that he writes and not his sexuality. Also, I never said anything about other people's opinions. You shouldn't focus on your race, creed, and sexuality for the benefit of others but for yourself. Be proud of what you do, not who you are. Anyone can be born a certain way. You have no say in that; it's what we do with our lives that's important.

This thread was made to show support for the LGBT people on this site because of homophobia and bashing of LGBT people happening here. If it really offends you this much that this thread exists, then it to me at least seems like you secretly have some homophobic beliefs.

I'm going to move on from this, I really, sincerely don't want an argument.

A few weeks ago I experienced some of the anxiety that comes along with 'coming out'. On another forum I'm a member of, on which I've made a lot of friends and people know me really well, I was really nervous the first time I mentioned that I'm bisexual. Of course they were all really accepting as I expected. That was just online, I can't imagine how badly I would panic if I had to tell someone in person.

Oh hey, we're appreciationg LGBT people again, I see. I'm doing some big presentations in favor of LGBT (mostly LGB) rights this week. Wish me luck! smile.png

Good luck. What are these presentations about exactly?

In one I am debating whether homosexuality is immoral, and in another I am doing a presentation about why gay marriage should be legal in the US.

Is that a controversial topic where you live? I know that there are some places in the world where they wouldn't exactly respond positively to that kind of thing. Presumably you don't live anywhere like that.

It's at a very big, very religious Catholic university, so it is a very controversial topic here. The class I'm doing the "morality" speech in has a very conservative, ignorant, self-righteous professor as well, so I need to thoroughly destroy as many homophobic arguments as possible or else he'll make up some BS argument to dismiss me completely.

This is an issue which is very close to my heart, both as a bisexual (or some might prefer pansexual) person who grew up in a rather homophobic family, and as someone who has seen homophobia and transphobia harm friends. I think it's important to show bigots exactly what they do when they bash LGBT people.

No. I'm sorry, but just no. I'm sick of this strawman response I get almost every time I or someone else brings up this point.

Not being proud of my sexuality or being all over gay pride is not the same thing as homophobia, and neither is viewing sexuality as a non-issue. I don't think anyone has said that they were offended by this thread, or by LGBT.

I sometimes wonder if people even read what I type, or if they just see "I'm not fond of the gay pride concept" and just assume that the rest of the post is me bashing queers.

"Acceptance" is different to "appreciation". Just because I don't express my love for everything queer doesn't make me homophobic. I don't think about or treat people differently because of which gender they feel sexuality attracted to, and nothing about a person's sexuality, or this thread "offends" me (otherwise I'd probably be offended by myself). I don't "appreciate" my sexuality, and I'm not "proud" of it. Just like I'm not proud of being white, or having dark hair. I accept it, and I'm happy with it, just as I accept other people's sexuality, whatever it may be, and happy that there's some diversity.

Furthermore, "support" is not the same thing as "appreciation", which is part of what we're discussing, and what this thread is called. But we've already been through this.

Again, as I have explained to you countless times, this thread is made to support LGBT people in a forum with a surprising number of homophobes and bigots, not to make us look like "ubermench" or whatever, so stop with your conspiracies and let people discuss what the thread is actually about in peace, alright? Pretty please? Also I called out Hawk Moth, not you (though you are not helping).

I'm not trying to be disrespectful or "gay bash" as some call it, but is there really a point in having an LGBT appreciation thread?

It would be the same if i made a Pizza lovers appreciation thread, really. To tip my hat off to the people who publically display their love of pizza.

I mean really.

No flaming, please. Respect my opinion as you would expect me to respect yours.

I find it very weird since where I'm from, it would be illegal to say bad things about the LGBT.  I don't think there even are religious schools anymore either.  Heck, gay marriage is legal since forever here.  I'm lucky to have been born on this side of the border it seems :\  I think if one our teachers bashed gays, he'd be banned on the spot.

You make some very good points, and I agree with you. However, I think the issue here is the word "appreciation" which was used by the OP. I think the OP meant something along the lines of "support" in which people discuss the issues related to LGBT people and work to support LGBT in their pursuit of acceptance. This is clearly the real purpose of this thread, and I think it is best to accept that the OP made a poor word choice and let it go.

If there wasn't intolerance on this forum I wouldn't have made this thread, but there is. A lot of it. Like, for a forum based around the love of a TV show about girly ponies learning about friendship there is a disturbing amount of bigotry going on.

And fuck me for being foreign and therefor not having perfect grammar apparently... one word and people go berzerk...

I'm a bit jealous laugh.png  The other day my teacher was ranting about how homosexuality and pedophilia are similar, and both are caused by watching pornography dry.png  It's awful.

Which is why when I got that that point, I said that we we've already been through this, and left it at that.

And it's not a "conspiracy", you mislabeled the thread, how can you not expect people to believe it's at least in some way about appreciation when the word "appreciation" is in the title. It's seems silly that you're trying to silence a discussion that's relevant to what most people are going to assume is part of the topic. Furthermore, it was a peaceful discussion between Moth and I for the most part until we were being bashed for it, so I really don't see what the issue is.

There are threads exactly like that. Not for pizza, per say, but for all sorts of foods, games, etc. It is one of the most popular types of threads in Everfree Forest, in my experience. So is it really so weird to have an LGBT appreciation thread?

Wow, then I admire your bravery in doing that even though it might cause you trouble. Most people wouldn't be able to do what you are going to do. Good luck with it, I'm sure you'll make that professor look like a fool.

In my year+ here I haven't seen one queer basher. I don't know where you're getting that from. Sure, there have been trolls but they were quickly banned.

Yeah I know, we've actually discussed this already some time ago. The only reason appreciation came up again is because new people are joining in the discussion who aren't really aware of this. I was simply having a (fairly relaxed) discussion with Moth about it which later turned into an argument when we were being told off for it. huh.png

I'm openly gay, but I could fall for a woman at some point I suppose. However I would wanna be with another dude more tongue.png

Coming out was hard for me being in a Christian family, but they accepted it better than I thought they would. My mom, at least. My dad doesn't really appreciate it too much, but who cares. Not me! I did lose a lot of friends from school, but it's worth being able to be who I am instead of a fake, pretending to like girls along with my friends.

Proudly a supporter of LGBT. This is an amazing idea for a thread, and I bet it'll do awesome! :D

Indeed, I have seen quite a lot of hatred for LGBT people on this site, and if we open things up to the brony community as a whole, then the homophobia is atrocious. All that loving and tolerating nonsense is just a show. Bronies are as hateful as anyone else.

I don't roam around the debate pit simply to avoid bs statements about how I am a uneducated filthy Serb. Also there are too many hard-headed Americans that won't accept the truth (no offense).

Indeed, ethnic issues are prevalent as well. Your little jab at Americans certainly proves that. LGBT issues, as you can imagine, are equally present. So, from this you can get Lyre's point about how an LGBT support thread is necessary.
