I will admit Father knows Beast nearly destroyed my head fanon as to what kind of dragon Spike's real father is: A kind one who found love with an equally kind dragoness. Their love and kindness were as big as their height size. I was also afraid the episode would destroy my role as Unicorn Will Guide playing a time travel part in ensuring Spike's Egg would make its way to Celestia. 

Still Sludge was a pretty well written "love to hate" kind of villain. Thank goodness he wasn't really Spike's father, though

If the fan fiction is related to the episode in all aspects except being created by a fan, then it could ruin the fan fiction. Sometimes, it doesn't effect the fan fiction.
