Sega spent over 141 million USD to buy Atlus from Index.  I found this odd, since Nintendo had to bail them out of debt not to long ago.

Well, allow me to share my thoughts on the mater.  I think this is good.  Granted, I think it would have been better if Nintendo or Sony bought Atlus, because they tend to have better budgeting; but this should turn out all right.

So why was Sega so advocate to buy Atlus?  Probably because of the dedicated fans of the brand name.  Atlus games sell rather consistently.  Sega could use a few titles with more dedicated fans.

How is this good for Atlus?  The major problem for Atlus has been funding.  They can't afford to widely distribute their games or advertize them.  Thanks to digital retail, Atlus doesn't have to worry about distribution, and now Sega can take care of advertizement.  Then they can focus on making their games the best games they can.

What do you think about this arrangement?

To be honest it doesn't bother me. I don't often play games from either company aside from persona 4. Even with it's flaws Sega has been around for AGES despite how shaky later sonic games have been so they must be doing something right. I think Atlus is in pretty good hands. Better than if someone with the intelligence of say Capcom bought them

To be more specific, they, Sega Sammy Holdings, bought Index (Atlus' parent company). I heard about this not too long ago and to be honest I was a little worried just because of the name Sega. Sega games have been really shaky these years. Still, I think Atlus will turn out fine... hopefully.

Sega has made a lot of questionable moves but buying Atlas may be the smartest thing they have done in quite some time. Atlas has to be the most consistently underrated video game company, they have a lot of great games but just don't have the kind of star power the likes of Nintendo or Sega have or even Konami or Namco. If Sega plays their cards right they will let Atlas do their thing and Atlas will in turn get a bigger budget which will allow them to create more games and distribute the games they have already made to more people.

I'm incredibly happy to know that Sega bought Atlus. Both companies are really great and hopefully we can get some more Atlus games onto Nintendo consoles. Because I know that both Sega and Nintendo are a pretty good pair as of late.

Only Atlus game I can say I own is 3D Dot Game Heroes, and I like it. Reminds me of classic, 2D Zelda. I do understand that there are a lot of fans of their Persona games though.

Hopefully Sega won't fuck it up.

Maybe this will give more stability to sega, I guess in the gaming industry all you really need is 2-3 good games to have consistent sales when they are released.

With the 3DS not finally starting to pick up with many good games now on it, I guess sega could afford to do this!

Lol, at the people who say Sega has made shaky games. I feel like very little people have hit up arcades and played their more recent stuff ^_~.

Anyways, that's a lot food in Sega's plate considering they're also working with the BBC to build a big ass museum, but I feel like they'll work it out. Hell, if anything we might start seeing some fancier Atlus arcade games, considering they're the reigning champs in the arcade scene.

They were bidding on it a few months ago and I'm somewhat glad it's happening. At least Atlus has a place to go.

With Persona 5 in development (supposedly) that's a pretty good kickstart for Sega.

I just hope Sega and Atlus do what's proper and bring older Megami Tensei games to the states that never got here. I wanna play the originals! </wishful thinking>
