Lumen 106 June 15, 2014 Share June 15, 2014 (edited) His employer told him that his interest in the show made others "uncomfortable". That's a shitty excuse to fire someone over something as petty as watching a TV show and it's absolutely disgusting behaviour. I can tell you for a fact that this is very illegal in a lot of countries and for a good reason. Hope the guy gets a new job soon. M'aiq the Liar 5,804 June 15, 2014 Share June 15, 2014 And if the guy really felt he has been done an injustice, why not give his name instead of posting anonymously on Reddit? I say this story is pony sh*t! I'd say that he may have been fired, but like most posters on the internet he exaggerated his story in order to gain more support. There is still no confirmation that he was fired for liking mlp other than this own word, there is no investigation done by any news source other than reposting his reddit post. Him liking mlp may have been a factor in why he was fired, and that is not ok. But there could be numerous other reasons as to why he was fired. His story is just to vague to get worked up on beyond that "that really sucks man, getting fired over a tv show isn't ok" levels. http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/vera-yeoman-r5921Muh pleb tier OC .http://mlpforums.com/blog/1663/entry-12477-pony-waifu-wedding-13-maiq-x-fleetfoot/ MLP forum's #1 Fleetfoot fan also married to fleetfoot <

cuteycindyhoney 13,307 June 15, 2014 Share June 15, 2014 To be fair, one guy's boss was just concerned for his daughter. You probably wouldn't want people talking to your kids regardless of their being bronies or not. That, and we never know the full story. Maybe these people were just lazy employees. EDIT: Found it. http://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/comments/1nbhqw/whelp_i_got_fired_yesterday_for_being_a_brony/ A grown man telling a little girl "I like your shirt" is bound to freak out the little girl's parents. If one of the parents is your boss, kiss your job goodbye. Remember, if you were hired "At Will" as are most people in the United States, the boss can fire you for no reason at all. 3 Thank you Sparklefan1234!!! \/ 651 June 15, 2014 Share June 15, 2014 My first thoughts : Outrageous and ludacris. What insanity is this? Those who love horses can work for Apple or Samsung or "Joe's lumber outlet". A job is a place of productive and useful work management. You also get money. You shouldn't end up having to work at burger king because you couldn't keep your job somewhere else because you watch a show about cartoon horses. Enter the Forest... I mean its like when your at a party and a friend introduces you to a friend of his/hers and they have a child...thats normally how a person acknowledges a child when being introduced ("Hi there, im Bob...i like your shoes.") its not always how it goes...but its what ive seen a lot. "What are you trying to accomplish, putting yourselves in danger like that? Trying to see "justice" done? Is that really justice, though? Aren't you just doing this because you want a little spice in your boring lives? What's the difference between that and a criminal who gets his kicks by murdering people? You see what I'm getting at? If the event actually happened (which I still doubt) there are many variables not mentioned. How did he say "I like your shirt"? Tone of voice, inflection, and body language could make all the difference. How do we know that the employee in question isn't a "Creepy Person"? How do we know that the boss hadn't warned him in the past to stay away from his daughter? How do we know the guy wasn't fired for missing too many days, and it had nothing to do with commenting on a shirt? We only have one side of the alleged event. Thank you Sparklefan1234!!! Guest June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 Depends. If it's a slight interest or even strong interest, but they aren't shoving it in people's faces, then why bother? They're not bothering anyone. Let 'em like what they like. But if it's distracting from their work ethic, they go around talking solely about MLP, and are obnoxious and don't shut up about it... then I see why they're getting fired. Just because you like something - you don't have to shove it in people's faces and that be the first thing they know about you. Part of the reason bronies have the reputation they have. Lightning Bliss 1,674 June 16, 2014 Share June 16, 2014 MEW! WELL I GOT NEWS FOR YOU BRONIES! *Squee* I just started my job at Subway, ya'll probably know them, big fast food sandwich place, starting to become world wide. Their slogan "Eat Fresh". Well it being my first day, and I didn't have my uniform shirt, I was going to put it on soon as I got in. So i walk into the place wearing my brony shirt saying "KEEP CALM AND BRONY ON!" with a rainbow dash silhoette at the top. The first coworker I run into, is a guy (yes I'm a girl), he stares at my shirt for a moment before saying his name. Then he says, coworker: "So ya I started about three days ago myself and...I'm sorry, I just couldn't help but notice your shirt... Who's your favorite pony?! " Me: "Oh lately I'm stuck between Twilight and AJ... Are you a brony too?" coworker: "HECH YA BROHOOF! *brohoofs me* Me: *browhoofs back* oh ya we're gonna get along nice! My point is? SUBWAY HIRES BRONIES!!! 1 I'm just a silly little alicorn, trying to get by in the fandom ^^ The Lightning Bliss Show Lightning Bliss DevianArt

Jeric 46,851 June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 Actually in the UK it's different. Schools have uniforms so that kids don't get bullied over what they wear! Plenty of US public schools started to adopt this approach in the elementary grades too. The thought was to reduce bullying here. Not sure if it was successful or not. My kids' school did this one year and damn did it piss them off ... but my wallet was happy. Anyway, in Florida your employer can terminate employment at will for cause or otherwise, provided it isn't for one of the federally protected reasons. Though most employers typically would want something far more substantial that personal taste in entertainment.

Winterbass 763 July 4, 2014 Share July 4, 2014 This article is faker than the effects used in King Kong. The article's only source is Reddit, there's no real description of what is going on and it isn't even approved of as an article. And honestly, if someone is stupid enough to take his interest into work, it really is his fault. One fake article talks about a brony getting fired and everyone goes crazy. Yet thousands of homosexuals, black people and old people don't even get employed for being who they are and it seems like no one even bats an eye to them. Priorities, people.

But doesn't everyone take their interests into the office at one point or the other? Commenting on a person's T-Shirt isn't even doing such a thing. It is simply doing a decent thing. Whether fake or not, it still doesn't excuse the kind of situation from happening.
Winterbass 763 July 4, 2014 Share July 4, 2014 But doesn't everyone take their interests into the office at one point or the other? Commenting on a person's T-Shirt isn't even doing such a thing. It is simply doing a decent thing. Whether fake or not, it still doesn't excuse the kind of situation from happening. The girl was 9, he's interested in a children's show and comments on her shirt, how are people who are not into internet culture NOT going to find this strange? Honestly, it was a really stupid move and there's no excuse for it. Interest or not, it's just something you don't do. For them, it's weird in the first place that he likes the show and it makes it even weirder he interacts with a 9-year old girl about it. It's a simple fact that we live in a coddled and protective generation, and people shouldn't adapt to one person, rather than the person adapting to the rest. It makes people feel uncomfortable, it's simple fact. Second of all, a business cannot function well when people feel uneasy. A manager can fire his workers because it's his establishment to begin with. If he thinks firing a person who is making others feel uneasy is a good idea, then that's simply how it is. You wouldn't keep a really clumsy person as a waiter, would you? Something as internet culture can be a very dangerous subject to bring into your workspace, it has always been like that. If I had a daughter, I wouldn't like it if a stranger would comment on her shirt, not because he's a brony, but because it just makes me feel uneasy, she's my child and of course I will protect her from random strangers. It's simply creepy, there's no other word for it. How the writer wrote his story and how it really was is something to take into consideration. I'm looking from both his perspective and the others. And as the side of the others, the only thing I can imagine them thinking is that it's simply creepy. People are simply more defensive with daughters than with sons. I find their reaction very understandable, even when I'm an open-minded and relaxed person myself. What counts for one person, doesn't count for another after all. But doesn't everyone take their interests into the office at one point or the other? Commenting on a person's T-Shirt isn't even doing such a thing. It is simply doing a decent thing. Whether fake or not, it still doesn't excuse the kind of situation from happening. I'm not saying I'm agreeing with it, I'm just saying the situation is very understandable.
