Ok, so, I thought I'd just post here to see if anyone here has any experience with thermal paste.

I've got some thermal paste on the way, but I want to ask here, since I've never done this before, and a little worried.

Can any of you ponies give me some tips or anything?

Has anypony here done this before - and ran into any issues?

My computer has been getting very hot recently...

YaZxVQ9.pngSo, my computer went from a rather powerful computer - to a kettle.

Thanks, just thought I'd ask, although, I can't imagine anyone here has any idea with this.

To apply thermal paste is simple. Once you get it, you put a little dab on the top like a ball and then slap the heatsync on. Let the heatsync spread the thermal paste for you, instead of using your fingers since that has a chance of getting air bubbles which can cause bad heat transfer.

I guess there's also methods from this video on how to do it, but i'd recommend the heatsync spread way since you push it on and then bolt it without ever removing it.

Don't forget, you have Youtube also.

Looks like you've most likely overclocked it, I'd probably revert it back to normal to help with the temp.

If it isn't overclocked maybe suggest underclocking it? I mean it has enough GHz to underclock with no problem too big.

That's about all I could think of, other than that I'm clueless.

The core CPU isn't overclocked, and I believe in my theory he never put thermal paste on.

@@Mitchfizz05 Turn your computer off now and let it cool for about 30 minutes, then remove the heatsync and wait for your thermal compound to arrive. It's bad to not have any on there, and even the preapplied thermal ones from the Intel standard Heatsync is horrible.

Thanks. :)

Also covers how to remove thermal paste too, which I need to know too.

I haven't overclocked it at all - haven't ever overclocked it.

Also, I shouldn't need to underclock it either, cause it was working fine previously.

Ninja posts - wasn't really expecting them, but in this case, they are good.

I do have thermal paste on there already.

Anyways, this has been a continuing issue, and have tried the basic stuff like simply turning off my PC and letting it cool down, but it didn't work. I've researched into the causes and tracked it down to thermal paste.

Do you have the stock Heatsync from Intel, and just used the pre-applied one? Or did you buy other thermal paste and still have your old bottle?

I used everything that was supplied in the box of the CPU.

Heatsink, fan and thermal paste.

Are they really bad quality?

Edit: I think the thermal paste was supplied.

Why does everyone always open these even though they don't know what is inside them.

Heatsink and fan is duable, but the thermal paste sucks just like I said. Whatever you do, don't use it for any computer and take it off first before applying new thermal compound.

If you're hitting 100 C on stock cooling something is wrong with your setup. I don't think new thermal paste will make much of a difference unless the old OEM stuff is dry. Is the heatsink seated properly?

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?
