Zecora's role in Season 4 and the show

Do or do not. There is no try.

Ahem. Well especially since season 3, Zecora's role has drastically changed in the show from being a supporting character and background pony zebra, to an occasional troll and more recently elevated to mentor status for Twilight and others. Note this would not be the 1st time Zecora has taken up a mentor role in the show. She already began doing that in Bridle Gossip  and later in the Cutie Pox giving advice and help to Applebloom.

Throughout the show she's made both starting and background appearances, giving seeds of wisdom, to at times being a troll. What has been clear though is that she's been a sage or guru of sorts that has helped guide Twilight and the Mane 6 with her deep wisdom. I think to some extent its fair to say that Zecora has been a better mentor and role model to Twilight than her actual mentor, Celestia has. Since her initial appearance in Bridle Gossip, Zecora, though speaking in often cryptic rhymes, has given Twilight and her friends invaluable advice and lessons.

According to Lauren Faust, Zecora was designed to be a sage and mentor to whom the ponies could go for information about their quests

If this is indeed true, Zecora has thus far even in Faust's absence has lived up to her role as a sage. She's practically the Yoda of MLP:FiM, living in a gnarled old tree in an isolated, hazardous and creepy setting and deep with knowledge. Oh and remember how Twilight dismissed seeking out help from Zecora in Magical Mystery Cure? Well alicorn princess or not that's inevitable in the 2 parter premier of Season 4 as Twilight and co battle the advancing Everfree Forest. Any episode that largely involves the Everfree Forest has at least a 50% chance of a Zecora appearance and this is no exception.

Zecora according to the MLP:FiM wiki is confirmed to be in the main cast for the first 2 episodes.

My question to you now is what do you think Zecora's role in the future of this series will be? She's arguably an important supporting character and next to Spike, stands out as one of the most prominent non ponies in the series.

Oh and here's some Yoda to cap things off.

In all honesty, I've never really seen Zecora as an important character.  I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this, but I would but her in the same category as Snips and Snails. All three of these ponies (especially Zecora) have only helped a limited number of times. Snips and Snails helping when they get into trouble and need to fix it.

The only time we've ever seen Zecora help is when the episode has to deal with the Everfree forest, and how many episodes is that? Two, three? I think we'll see her for the first two episodes this season because of the Everfree Forest plot, but during the rest of the season we'll see her as the advice pony that doesn't really help but is just there for problem solving.

Zecora is a character that's portrayed very, very similarly to Celestia in many ways, if you think about it.

  • Both are supporting characters that act as teachers and guides, because they appear to have vast amounts of wisdom.
  • Both let those they teach figure things out for themselves more often than outright telling them. Zecora speaks through rhyme, a kind of physical manifestation of this, whereas Celestia takes the mental route, often giving Twilight a mission with an ulterior motive involved relating to teaching her something.
  • Both are depicted to have (presumably powerful) magic about them, that's shrouded in mystery because they as characters are never given a whole lot of explanation. (Lauren herself stated that with Celestia, she purposefully didn't try to measure her abilities, even to herself, as to make her all the more detached from the primary cast, making her a mysterious and thus alluring teacher figure.)

I'm not at all surprised that Zecora is said to be popping up in the premiere. First of all, from the looks, Twi and friends are going to need all the help they can get and would likely turn to her for some sort of help, and secondly, the entire premise is built around the Everfree Forest, Zecora's home, growing out of control. It'd honestly be kinda weird if she wasn't in the premiere.

At any rate, she's a great character that they brought on, and I'm looking forward to what other voodoo magic she brings to the already-awesome-looking S4.

Now have a blast from last season, with some Zecora toasting Iron Will.

All I have to say is YUSSSS! MOAR ZECORA :D I want to keep most info regarding the premiere a surprise, but if it has zecora in a major role, I will be a happy panda. I'd love to see her given more character development, which will hopefully happen.
