has the community of first person shooters changed

in this topic i want to talk about the community of fps type games and how it affects gaming. for the most part i will be using call of duty finest hour, call of duty modern warfare 2

The community of first person shooters has changed in the past few years due to the release of the ps3 and xbox 360 this introduced online play on consoles something "children" had.

call of duty was mostly known for being on pc but now children started getting their hands on these call of duty games.

here is an image representation on what the community used to be and what it is now

call of duty modern warfare 2 and onwards

i will admit to being one of those kids back in the days of cod 4 but i atleast had the mental maturity to play the game and not threaten people for playing well.

call of duty is still an amazing game franchise and always will be and i cant wait till i can afford ghosts but the community has turned into mature adults but 8-12 year olds and that ruins the game and it really ruins how people see the game because people don't judge games by the game now they judge a game by its community.

it also runs into other games the other day i went to play Gotham city impostors and there was a kid yelling down the microphone at how i was hacking for playing too well and its just ruining the fps community all together.

i wanna see you guys giving your opinion on this

Well IDK about COD anymore and I have no idea on why you are just noticing this but I play counter strike and since that game is more tilted to the competetive scene kids aren't too swarmed around it due to it's veteran nature.

Call Of Duty is more easy and focused on screaming and running and gunning which is fun and colorful.

Besides there aren't too many kiddie games anymore.

It's either Dora, or some RPG / FPS.

The Wii and Nintendo are alright but it's gotten old really...

Whenever I play CoD, the only people I hear on the mic are either little kids, or like 20 year old guys who just talk crap to everyone. And basically everyone who plays CoD seems to just be incredibly annoying. And it doesn't help that parents buy their little kids video games like this...

>Implying people liked The Finest Hour

It might be because back then CoD was more of a middle market game, and doesn't have the enormous popularity it does now

Compare it to now with all of the popularity it has now, and with more popularity it draws more unwanted attention which is probably why the community has such a negative reputation. Similar things happened with Halo back in when the Xbox first released

I'll say that, yes, the FPS community has changed, but I think people make it sound worse than it really is. I rarely find myself running into anyone that was being obnoxious and annoying while I was playing on console and they're not always kids; I think the last person that even came close to that was some guy in at least his 20's raging about how bad the team was.

Still, just the thought that you find a bunch of yelling kids when you play the game is discouraging a bit. These are the people you'll be playing the with after all. It definitely hurts the community and FPS get the worst of it.

Has the FPS community gone downhill?

For CoD, most definitely.

It's difficult for me (when I'm on a PS3) to find a game without a group of squeakers or people threatening to hack if someone's doing well. It sounds worse than it is, but it's (unfortunately) easy to get used to. :P (Not necessarily the best thing to get used to, but whatever.)

In terms of COD, it has gone hill. It isn't just little kids though, teens and adults are also quite annoying. Yelling at members of their team, threatening others, acting like they know everything. It is quite dumb. You might as well throw those people into the little kids section because they act like little kids.
