I see things like replace or add, i'm gonna do you one better skip.

 

most shows have 4-5 main protagonists.  Isn't that there isn't enough room for 7 main ponies,

there's not really enough room to juggle 6 main stars.

Seriously?  The worst thing in the plot is why we gotta keep 6 characters?  Ga fa sir.

 

I'm not gonna do the lazy thing and say "apple jack's gotta go."

Cause that's not true.
If you scaled back the main cast, they would need her more.

when you have 5 friends to call upon

how often do you need the most dependable of ponies?

 

I mean hell, you could deal with more dependable than not which most of the cast are.
If the  cast was filled with unreliable members apple jack would be a star.

 

Hum..... My God I think i thought of a hook for apple jack.

 

but seriously most arch types are

the nerd,

the joker,

the jerk,

and the leader.

 

(yes you could sub in the cute one flutter shy fans lol ) but the show might even worked with 4.

I'm tossing it out there as a counter argument to more characters.

see if you feel like "well there's not enough rarity episoes."

or apple jack doesn't get enough time.

 

or not enough of rain bow dash wonder bolting it up,

it's cause they have to focus on 6 ponies plus sub plots.

 

if they had 5-4 they'd get alot more focus.

Hell look at equistrain girls.  how much of the movie was eaten up by them having to meet every damn friend lol.

You could be inclined to make that argument and be fairly objective about it ^^.  She's fan service.  I like an appreciate her.  But,

like for the element of kindness, she gets way, way, way to much air time.

Having a pony as kind and sweet as her is very useful. She did afterall make discord good.

And she did make that huge dragon move!

Flutters is a very kind pony, she's very helpful, and without her the show would be so much different, probably not at as good as it is currently.

And she did make that huge dragon move!

Flutters is a very kind pony, she's very helpful, and without her the show would be so much different, probably not at as good as it is currently.

I'd be perfectly fine if they cut Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, or Fluttershy.

I really don't care for any of them, to be honest, I find them pretty boring...however, at the same time, I know they're the three most popular characters in the show so I await the storm that's coming my way because of this post.

There should be more episodes developing Rarity or Applejack than Fluttershy, for example. Okay. She's shy. She reforms for an episode and becomes a doormat until she doesn't need to be again. Bleh. Now they're just using the popular characters so they get views which is fine and all, I get it, but they're shoving equally good ones out of the way.

Spike even got like, two episodes in S3, and Rarity got none. Come on. He's replacing her, LOL.

they could showed discord with the flaw of only being happy when he's making people miserable.  that chaos doesn't have to be cruel.

As for the dragon thing honestly at that point in time, that was a huge responsibility for that group at such a green group of friends.

yes they took down nightmare moon,

but that was with the EOH.

It's too late to cut out a member of the mane 6, as it is also too late to make it a mane seven. Such dynamics could work, but it would have to be done like that from the start.
