"It's fine. I pushed myself too hard, is all. A few hours sleep and I'll be ok. But what I wanted to ask you... Do you like me as more than a friend?" Aegis asked, finally giving voice to his thoughts. Not exactly smooth, but given their situation, that was the best he could do. "Sorry if I put you on the spot, but... Well, I like you a lot, Pavi, and I wanted to know for sure before doing something stupid and ruining our friendship."

Icarus moved over to Blast.

"Before I operate on that, I'm going to put you under, is that ok" Icarus said to Blast.

He pulled out his medical bag, and removed a splint  from it, as well as a suture kit, and set them down beside himself. He then pulled out his vial of chloroform  and a rag, awaiting blasts response.

Pavisa

@@Windbreaker,

Pavisa blinks at Aegis, a little dumbfounded by the question.  "I...  What?"  She hadn't been expecting this in the least, especially not now...  While she does blush slightly beneath her helmet, she turns slightly to thrust a hoof towards the cave entrance.

"Do you really think now is the best time to ask me something like that?  Whatever was trying to kill us is still out there!  We're not exactly out of danger just because we got to these rocks!"  She groans and mutters quietly under her breath.  "Stallions...  Why do none of them ever have a decent sense of timing?"

She turns her attention back to Aegis, gritting her teeth slightly.  She'd never really had close friends before, and something like this didn't come up very often for the mare.  But, he'd already asked, so she owed him some kind of answer...  "Aegis...  You're a dear friend, but...  I don't think that I feel the same way you do..."

She blushes profusely by this point, extremely glad to be able to hide behind her helmet.  Aegis WAS a close friend, and he deserved a real reason.  "It's not you, really, it's just...  I'm...  Not exactly attracted to stallions...  Do you get where I'm coming from?"  She really hoped he understood what she meant, because she was far too embarrassed to try and go into more detail...

He understood what she meant. Any normal stallion would be gutted by being turned down, but Aegis felt glad. A weight was lifted off his chest. And he hoped that one day, Pavisa could be happy, too. "Yeah. I get it." The author said, a warm smile spreading across his face.

He could've sworn he heard his father's voice in his head just now. 'At least you had the courage to tell her, Aegis. Can't expect more than that.' The thought amused him, since that is exactly what his father would say. He returned his gaze to Pavisa. "Thanks for being honest, Pavi. Who's the mare you like? It's ok if you don't want to say anything. I'll understand."

@@Windbreaker,

Pavisa gives a small sigh of relief at how he takes the news, then shakes her head.  "Thanks for understanding, Aegis...  It's not really something that I can just...  Talk about, though."  She smiles awkwardly, obviously still a little embarrassed to even be talking about the subject.  With a glance back to the rest of the party to make sure none of them overheard her, she looks back at Aegis and playfully (and lightly, considering the shape he was in) cuffs his shoulder with her hoof.

"Maybe we'll talk some other time...  You know, when we're not in danger of dying...  And I swear, if this conversation makes it into one of your books I'm kicking your flank."  She grins and lifts her helmet enough to make sure he can see her wink, then lets the helmet quickly fall back to her head.  She was still blushing from the talk, and didn't want anypony to notice it.

"I love the kind of pony who can kick my flank." Aegis joked. He gave Pavisa a playful grin, half expecting her to slap him for the comment. But he probably deserved it anyway. Funny that nearly being killed and then being turned down by a mare he liked could do the exact opposite of what one expected it to. 'There's probably something wrong with my head. Hopefully, it doesn't turn out to be a bad thing.'

"Wake me in a few hours, 'cause I'm about to-" Aegis fell asleep, still in his sitting position, before he could even finish his sentence.

Clockwork watched as a second train car was smelted into slag before his eyes. As the others left the train car, he glanced about, hoping nopony had been left behind. He wasn't usually one to care, but in this situation, it could mean his own survival if he made sure he was on good terms with the group he was with. He donned his winter cloak, while he waited for the last of the party to make their way out, then followed them. He was met with whipping ice and snow, which mostly bothered his face, but aside from that he was well covered. He could feel the odd painful strike of a massive ice chunk hitting an unarmoured area that wasn't covered by his wings or bags filled with items. He trudged after the others, feeling the storm let up slightly. He dared not look back, and hoped whatever it was that was attacking didn't pay enough attention to strike him. The others seemed to be trying to get it's attention, and now with the lull in the wind and hail, he took this advantage, propelling himself with his wings towards the cavern where the others had taken shelter.

He finally dropped in, sliding to a halt, and collapsed. Panting heavily, he glanced around the room to the others. Kingfisher was bleeding, and a couple of the others looked pretty battered. Blast was the worst, but Icarus seemed to have him under control. "Alright everypony, who needs some healing? I can help Icarus here, he's given me a bit of energy. I should be able to tend to more light wounds, and stabilize more serious ones. If you're in bad condition, I'm afraid I may not have enough energy, but I'll see what I can do." He stepped up to Kingfisher, raising a hoof. "You're bleeding, are you alright?" He gazed quizzically, with what appeared to be some form of concern. For Clockwork, it seemed almost out of place.

Midnight Scribbler

@@SilverHeart,

@@Nomadic,

@,

(OOC: just so you're aware, I'm throwing a dream sequence in here. Indicated by the lighter text.)

Scribbler was following Mirror, he could see her ahead of him. She turned to him, and said something, it was faint, as though he had nearly lost his hearing. The sound of ringing was predominant in the background, as his eyes focused in on what was behind her, he could see funnel clouds forming in the sky, the landscape went from snow, to baron landscape. She turned away from him, and began to walk into the storms. "No! Mirror! Come back! You can't go out there alone!!" Frantically he attempts to move, but seems frozen to the spot. He begins to step foreward, but his hooves feel like they're weighed down. It was as though he was wading through water up to his chest. His heart was filled with terror and adrenaline, wanting so badly to save her from the perils ahead. Mirror stopped ahead, turning to him as a funnel cloud slowly wormed it's way down directly over her head, her eyes glowing white. As soon as her eyes met his, everything went white. He held his hooves up to shield his eyes, only to find himself in an infinite black void. He could hear something, like a voice.. But who? "Mirror?" "Wake up!!"

Scribbler awoke to the sound of ringing in his ears, his vision was dim and blurry, but it wasn't because of the goggles he wore. He was facing the snow on the ground, sideways, then he suddenly realized he'd fallen. He snapped awake, leaning up, and attempting to stand. He felt as though he'd been run down in a stampede, his side was badly bruised, and it was painful to get up. Wincing in pain which shot throughout his left side, he limped on towards the lights hanging in the air some distance ahead of him. The hoof prints in the snow were his only other guide, that and the faint sounds of voices coming from what he assumed and hoped was his party. His body was numb from the cold, even with Mirror's blanket tied around him, he had been out cold in the snow and hail for too long. He had been lucky to wake up, given how cold it was. He could feel something trickling down his brow, around the rim of his goggles. He winced as he felt where it came from, a gash on his forehead, where a large chunk of hail had struck him. "Just my luck.. I hope the others made it out of this safely." He thought, as he finally found the cavern entrance. His vision was still blurred slightly, and he wasn't thinking straight yet. He wasn't sure if he was going to survive, or even how serious his wounds were, but he pressed on. He could smell wood smoke, and feel the warmth of a fire as he entered. The only pony his eyes made contact with was Mirror, before he collapsed to the cavern floor unceremoniously. "I'm.. I'm sorry.. I.." He exhaled heavily, and fell unconscious once again. His breathing was shallow, and blood ran down his face.

The wind and the weather whipped through the frost-chilled air. Hail began to punch up against him, progressively getting larger. This was Denarius' limit. If he stayed outside any longer, he would be nothing more then a frozen, battered spectacle. He turned his back to the entrance, yet a shuffling sound soon came from behind. Swerving back around, he saw the figure from earlier, obviously worse for wear. The pony stumbled back, and forth as he made his way deeper into the cave.

"Wait, I'll get somepony to help you", he yelped out.

It was of no use, the pony had not seen or heard Denarius there, instead he just carried on with his grim walk. He needed to make sure this pony made it down there. Denarius followed closely behind the individual, praying for him to make his way down to the others, and if not he would drag the pony himself as he would be necessary for later.

They shortly approached the fire, Denarius stared at the others completely unsure on what to do for this pony's condition. He was not used to this, and whilst he himself had sustained some injuries from the weather, they appeared superficial compared to the others'. He simply looked up to the ponies sitting around the fire with a quizzical stare. At a loss for words. He just shifted his gaze into the glare of the flame, and began to shake his head with a unfamiliar sense of uncertainty.

As the ponies took refuge, a frustrated howling roared through the air: there were so many alive, including the one that had dared try to strike back!

As the hail of ice seemed to grow tired and drop within the space of a few seconds, several bolts of the purple lightning rained downwards in rapid succession: striking the area around where the ponies had vanished and quaking the ground. It was no use - they were safely sheltered inside and killing them off now would be a colossal waste of energy... It had only been a few short days since awakening and even this modest display was exhausting at the moment.

The sheer audacity of it, they should have just laid down and died! How dare they defy? Didn't they know what they looked upon? Didn't they know the grandness and superiority that had fixed its eye on them? They should have been proud to die in these desolate wastes - a part of something far greater than their pathetic little race!

They would have to come out sooner or later though. Come out, or starve.

And time wasn't exactly on their side.

She didn't feel worth healing - what had she done, after all? Say about uselessly while everyone else struggled with the aftermath of the crash... then slowed them down in escaping?

Frost sat lulling some ice shards from his bag. When he heard Kingfish he replied almost instantly. "Yeah I made it...just barely anyway." He muttered in a low tone, checking the contents of his saddle bags so he could assess the damage done. A few books and some parchment had been ruined, but nothing important had been seriously damaged. He slung his saddle bags back on, tied them down, and went to sit near Kingfisher, the only pony he had really ever talked to besides Blast. He pulled out his pack of cigarettes and showed them to Kingfisher. "Want a smoke?" He asked followed by a "man you look pretty banged up." This time almost a whisper.

She stood up and began to walk over to him. She was glad he had made it back. "Scribbler! Thank Celestia, you're alright. What took you so long?"

Instead of answering her question Scribbler apologized and promptly collapsed. Mirror froze. She watched him, wondering if this was some kind of bad prank. He could feel things getting warmer as Mirror brought him close to the fire. "Am I dead? I must be dead.. It's not this warm where I last stood." He slowly pried his eyes open just a little bit, and saw a fire close by, this brought to him a realization. "No.. not dead yet.. Where am I?" He turned his head up to see a blurry image of  Mirror over him, looking quite worried. "M-Mirror?" He weakly mumbled, feeling a sudden warmth aside from the fire's heat. First, he suffered a cracked skull from the train crashing, and now he had a giant ice shard implanted into him. He should be counting himself lucky that he isn't dead, but at this point, death seemed like the only thing to make the hurting stop. He lied down on the cold cave floor in utter silence. It was the only thing he could really do at this point.

Orion wasn't a doctor, or a medic... or anything of the kind. Sure, he knew about healing a pony but... the worst that he had actually had to deal with we're splinters and cuts - he wasn't ever certain what was wrong with Scribbler! Not to mention that given the circumstances - the mass summoning of them all and the lights - he didn't know if her could manage another spell, even if he did take an educated guess...

"Stand back, let me take a look..." He said without thinking, kneeling beside his injured friend.

'I need help, I can't do this... There's got to be a pony here better qualified than me...' He thought. 'Scribbler would probably know what to do. Huh. Could really use the Litany right now.'

"Mirror!" Snapped the unicorn - at least under the pretence of knowing what to do: treat it as any other emergency - apply what he did know and improvise the rest. If nopony else was going to step up... "Gather up some snow and melt it - we need water."

He let his eyes lose focus for a moment - seeing nothing unusual. The last gift that Legion had bestowed on him, when they were cut off from each other in the ruins.

"He's not enchanted... not by any conventional magic anyway. Its got to be either the bleeding, the cold or some kind of trauma. I can't do very much for the third, but we can stop this bleeding and keep him warm."

He then turned to Kingfisher as she posed the question. "I agree with Eclipse here.. I believe we would be tempting fate to set hoof outside at this moment, considering what lies in wait just outside the cavern's mouth. We would basically be diving down the throat of the serpent, and that wouldn't do much good for your quest, would it? I vote we explore this cavern, to see if there might be an alternative exit. But we must be cautious, and mark our path, else we could get lost, and be in just as much peril through a different cause. On that note, the caverns will be much less hazardous in the immediate than outside will be. That is my vote." He sat down, looking ponderous. "Perhaps if we can find safe passage through the caverns, we can make our way back to the tracks from there, unnoticed by whatever that thing is out there. Though, I don't fathom my chances being high with these ruffians.. I'd be lucky to sneak up on a titan with the amount of noise they make from yammering constantly."

He was slowly slipping out of reality as his head became more and more painful. He could feel the wound throbbing, and the blood crusting on his muzzle. His legs felt as though something had begun to gnaw at them, as the frost bite became apparent. The frost bite was the least of his worries though, he needed to stay awake, and he knew this. @,

Icarus put a small amount of chlorophorm on the rag.

"This is risky with that concussion, you could comatose from this. I will leave it to you, do you want me to put you under?" Icarus asked Blast.

Hopefully he sayd yes, Or the others will have to restrain him as I operate.

(OOC: short post on break.)

Mirror nodded, briefly nuzzling Scribbler's shoulder before turning around and walking towards the mouth of the cave. It seemed like the hail had lulled....somewhat. She looked around for anything that could hold the snow. Not seeing anything, she pulled off her cloak, it's not like it would get damaged by a little snow. She scooped some snow onto the middle of the cloak and tied it together. She turned around and began to walk back to the others. She stumbled a few times, it seemed like her right foreleg was becoming harder to work with.

She dumped the snow far enough away from the fire that it wouldn't melt. , without a bucket or cup there wasn't any way for her to melt it without it going to waste.

Blast

Blast nodded before his drifted off into a deep sleep, one that he hoped wouldn't be his last. He hoped Icarus knew exactly what he was doing. He's pretty much putting his life in the hooves of some crazy witch doctor. He had to hope for the best though. He was the only thing standing between him and death.

@,

Icarus went to work quickly. he first carefully removed the ice shard using his  telekinesis. And carefully swabbed the wound with disinfectant.Once he finished that, he made sure that the broken bone was aligned correctly. Using his suture kit he carefully sewed up the opening, and sealed it. Finally, he slid and secured Blasts leg in a splint.

"Good"He said turning to the rest of the group.

@,@@Midnight Scribbler, @,  Anyone else....

"Does anyone have smelling salts?" Icarus yelled to the rest of the group. If not he could try a sternal rub.

Denarius stared onwards, the reality of the situation finally sinking into his mind. His head shifted from gazing upon the fire to the chaos unfolding. The stallion was in rough shape. It seemed that he had gotten brunt of the storm's wrath. Anything Denarius could do for the stallion would be considered nothing more than a crude bandage. Granted, the others' medical knowledge looked to be about on par with his own.

The mare yelped up about needing stitches. Denarius' mind wandered for a moment. He made his way around the fire to the stallion the others called Tactic. He snatched his pouch out from in front of Tactic. Turning the pouch upside down, he poured his belongings back onto the ground.

"Here you can inspect my belongings for a little while longer, but I'm going to need this pouch back", Denarius told Tactic in a nonchalant tone as he walked away.

Trotting over to Orion's sister, he reversed his pouch revealing its inner seam. "Here take the cotton thread from the seam here. It may not be the most ideal stitching material, but it should close the wound up...... right?". Denarius looked at the mare unsure if his idea would actually work, or if he was just becoming a nuisance in the way.
