Sapana 66 December 5, 2013 Share December 5, 2013 There's a lot of ageism online against younger people, and it makes me angry. People completely dismiss people's opinions just because of their age - and while it IS a major factor in one's outlook and views, it doesn't invalidate them.
Zygen 6,066 December 5, 2013 Share December 5, 2013 Well yeah of course i've met people like that, but age really isn't a defining definite factor in determining much of anything.. People who are 30 could act 10, and vis versa. It really depends on individual maturity. I personally think age doesn't matter really. And not in intentions of bragging,(Trust me with my low confidence you know i ain't bragging.) but even when i was like 11-12 I was complimented on being very mature for my age. So obviously others can be mature as well. The reverse is also true, in that some much older people act incredibly immature. So again, age just doesn't really matter that much. Especially in smaller intervals. 2 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Sabrinie 392 December 5, 2013 Share December 5, 2013 My one friend is a year and two months older than me, so when she turned 22, I was still 20. But I turned 21 two months later. She still insists that she's two years older than me and basically implies that she's better and smarter because of it :okiedokielokie: What fun is there in making sense? Treble Bolt 1,122 December 5, 2013 Share December 5, 2013 I get teased a lot by people that I stole my husband right out of the craddle...and I can't remember the name they call it when you are older than your husband (the old people in town tease me about it)....yet, I'm only 8 months older than him (we were born the same year!). Granted, we did decide to get married when he was almost 18 (it was a month before his birthday). We were engaged over a year though, I was 20, he was 19 when we wed.... As for myself, I look older and carry myself older than what I am, and get teased about that. I used to feel insulted by it. Like one example, when I was 17 working at Burger King cashiering at this particular time, an elderly customer asked how my kids were doing. I thought she may have mistaken me for someone else (no big deal), and politely said I have no children. She then went on to say that I should be having children because I am almost too old for it, and that it's quite a blessing. I then said I was 17 and asked if she was mistaking me for someone else. She looked so shocked when I said that, and then said I looked about 35!!!! I was highly insulted by that, and back then wondered why anyone would think that. I do not wear makeup, and have never done anything to prematurely age myself. Now I know it's how I carry myself around others and because I've "been around the block" more than most people my age (in other words, I've seen some sh**), I look older than I am. Nerdy Luigi 2,065 December 5, 2013 Share December 5, 2013 So I was called a 12 year old by a TF2 player. Im 16, thank you kindly. It makes me wonder how high pitched my voice really is. They are idiots, they are stupid people who don't know $#!* apparently.
Obsolete 681 December 5, 2013 Share December 5, 2013 I can't say I've ever encountered such behavior, either online or in real life, but the concept is profoundly silly. I've met plenty of teenagers on this very site that routinely surprise me with their wisdom. Meanwhile, I'm 23 and I feel like a moron stuck playing an endless game of intellectual catch-up. Age matters, but only up to a certain point. The rest is up to the individual. You can acquire tons of experiences over the years, but it's all for nothing if you don't learn from them.
ReverseFaller 2,483 December 6, 2013 Share December 6, 2013 Oh, but of course. There will always be people like that. Honestly, I couldn't care less about age. I know young people who act more mature than adults do. (And vice versa). Judge somebody by their character, not by their age. Oran Schvoletski 49 December 6, 2013 Share December 6, 2013 Online, yes. I've had to deal with it quite a bit. I have always tried to avoid it wherever I can, but it's kinda unavoidable when a troll acts like a 5-year-old then when you say something like "grow up" they blurt out "im 24 kn0b fite me". <--True story. 1 “In a world filled with misery and uncertainty, it is a great comfort to know that, in the end, there is a light in darkness.” My OC: http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/autumn-dusk-r5274

)O( Scarlet )O( 1,259 December 6, 2013 Share December 6, 2013 Sadly my ex-wife constantly did that with me in arguments (she was 17 years older than me, I'm 24/25 and she's 42) she constantly pulled out the whole "I'm older than you, so I know more and better than you" card whenever we argued about something, which I think was one of the reasons why I stopped loving her a long time ago. Being older doesn't neccessarily mean that you know more and better than someone who is older than you! I know of plenty 'adults' who don't know better or more than what a teenager would. (Mind you some of them are like that because they chose to kill their brain cells constantly with alcohol and drugs, and started before their brain had the time to mature (i,e under age alcohol and drug consumption) and I read somewhere that a person doesn't fully start to mature until they are like 21 or something... Sorry for the rant but I felt the need to explain things) - And I even know a fair few teenagers who actually know a lot more than some adults do, so it doesn't matter how old you are, every person is their own individual, and no one is really better or worse than each other... if that makes sense. 2 (Avatar art done by and Signature art done by @Guardian Braveheart (Aka my little brother), Avatar and Signature done by myself)
Oblivion 20,266 December 6, 2013 Share December 6, 2013 Yea, age jerks are annoying, I mean I can see it like a 60 year old vs an 18 year old, but just a 2 or 3 year old age difference really shouldn't matter.
Princess Lona 382 December 6, 2013 Share December 6, 2013 (edited) I do not wear makeup, and have never done anything to prematurely age myself...I look older than I am. I don't wear makeup either and sometimes people think I'm way older than I am. Sometimes they think I'm younger too, but that's also when they think I'm a boy XD I think that women like us who supposedly look older than our true age may actually look our age, but because almost everyone else wears makeup, people have gotten an idea in their heads of what certain ages look like. So when they see a person without makeup they just assume she is older because that's what their brains have been trained to see. I've seen a few of my makeup wearing friends without their makeup on and they always look about ten years older without it (They don't actually look ten years older, but my brain tells me they do because that's what I've been trained to see). Haha! Funny you say that, cuz I get "aren't you a guy?" a lot. I am a very active person, with the body to show it. I was at a city library one time looking at DVD's in the kid's setion, and this little boy (couldn't have been any older than 5) tugged at my pants to get my attention because he must've wanted me to move. Anyway's, I turned to face him while he said, "excuse me sir (quite politely I must say), but as soon as I saw his face, he screamed. " YOU HAVE BOOBS I'M SORRY!" and he ran to his mother! I got so many stares.....I have no idea to this day what went through that kid's mind....Of course, back then, I had very short hair (didn't do past my chin)....now, I have long twin braids, but still have extremely broad shoulders for a female. On topic again....makeup really decieves society. Of course, it depends on how you use it. I don't know, seeing people (guys and gals) wearing makeup doesn't bother me, but when they plaster their faces, there's no telling how old they are or even what they truely look like. I compare those people to clowns, because unless you're acting, you should not have that much makeup on.... Serbon div 386 December 6, 2013 Share December 6, 2013 Yes, even here in the debate pit. Whenever this guy was losing he would go like i'm 4 years older or some shit.I hated that so much, I know a lot more history and politics then many adults. Atleast I spend my time reading history books than browsing on facebook...
Sunlight 357 December 7, 2013 Share December 7, 2013 Yeah, I hear that sometimes too. It's like they think they're better than you just because they're a couple of years older. Maturity counts more than physical age, and most of those people have the maturity of eight year olds... When I see your face, it's like sunlight dripping... Sweet Dreams 1,893 December 8, 2013 Share December 8, 2013 I hate being judged because of my age. Mental maturity is more important than physical maturity. My brother always says his opinion is more valuable than mine is just because he's a year older. It really bugs me.
