Well it's more like the energy to use the attack goes through himself and into the sword. He uses the phrase, "A sword is an extension of yourself" quite literally.

Oh, he doesn't take it purely literally though. Some people *Cough* Nikki and Ginger *Cough* are literally one with their swords

Hence the "quite". Basically, any move he uses comes out of or is used with his sword. Even something like Vine Whip, so he has extra reach.
