gaming Do you consider Pokemon Gens 1&2 one story

We have all played these games. In short, I could care less for anything G4 or beyond. G3 was the best in terms of pokemon design and fun factor. G1 and G2(even the remakes) are just overall better games. I find them more difficult and memorable.

Do you consider the journey of Red becoming the pokemon master, when he defeats team rocket. Crushes the elite four and beats blue in possibly one of video games best boss fights. Also in Gen 2 playing as Gold and doing the same, but earner 8 more badges in Kanto. The beating Red in a showdown. It just feels like one big game. Gold vs Red to me is the best Nintendo boss fight ever created.

Well I think that's the point. Gold/Silver were meant to be the last Pokemon games, but at that point the series had gotten so popular they just decided to keep going.

Kind of. I mean, it's a really loose connection between the two games, like, just a reference to the past game and that's it. Of course, I never really considered the early pokemon games to be particularly story driven...

And yes, the Gold vs Red battle on that summit is pretty epic.

I can see where you are coming from with the addition of Kanto to Gold/Silver, it was like two games packed into one. Can't say that for Red/Blue. For me growing up with Pokemon, Crystal has had the deepest impact on my childhood, because it was such a long game (and was the culmination of Gold and Silver, Silver being my favorite of those two until Crystal which is all time favorite pokemon game (unless they remake Yellow....that would be my fav but I didn't get that game until I was in high school).

Other than Red's appearance, I can't really say that they are ONE story, because you aren't Red, you are someone else, from a different town from a different region.

The Pokemon games don't exactly have a definite timeline, so it's almost impossible to determine which game took place before the other if you're wanting to know which story came first chronologically. Although if you consider the main protagonist of the game to be yourself, the story takes place on the date you played the game. In that sense, each new game and iteration of the series is your story. (It's probably what the devs would like you to think anyway xD)

In a broad sense though...I don't think the Pokemon games were designed with story in mind. Any story elements that the games have are just there to serve the purpose of getting the player from point A to point B in order to get a feeling of progression and accomplishment.

The Pokemon games don't follow a timeline that continues from one game to another, so it is hard to tell whether games connect to each other in story or not. The early Pokemon games had you in a different region, so it was hard to tell if they chronologically connected.

I don't think the Pokémon series necessarily follows a direct timeline. However, it'd be interesting to know what year each game takes place in. For example, is Oak still alive in X and Y?

Gen 1 and 2 were meant to be connected, because they were early on and they didn't know how popular it'd get. Or atleast they were meant to be connected to some extent.

Of course the games don't necessarily follow and continued storyline much, but yeah.
